Can anyone advise on starting a 2002 Montesa when cold. Having not started it for a couple of weeks it takes around 20 to 30 kicks if I'm lucky. Once its warm then starting is okay. I have checked the plug which seems okay, and yes it's wet after all that effort. Ideas and comments please, has any one else had this problem?

I can't find the post so I'll start it again. Someone was looking for a vintage Montesa shop manual for rebuilding an engine in a 247 Cota? This is a s close as I can find. It's the old Clymer manual on line. Thanks to Jared Bates of Southwest Montesa. http://www.southwestmontesa.com/montesa/frmst1.htm

Hi all I want to raise my handlebars on my 2006 4rt. I am running the standard Domino handlebars and I want to purchase some bar raisers. All I can find are V-mar and Hope raisers for their replacement yokes. I really do not want to spend that much money on replacing the yoke. Anyone know of some handlebar raisers that will work with the standard yoke and Domino bars. Thanks Scott

  6. Morning, I’m looking for some help with my Montesa 301 RR 2022 clutch. I’ve had issues with the clutch since purchase a year ago. It’s progressively got worse with juddering, shrieking when hot and now a grinding sound under engine breaking. Ive changed the plates out for Mitani Alluminium discs, fresh HTX 740 and it hasn’t improved or changed at all. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I've got to the point where I dread having to take the bashplate off my 315. Last time to get it back on I used a combination of a jack and mole grips and even then it was a nightmare! I've tried a ratchet strap too but didn't really help. Anyone got any tips?

Hi to all I have a 1981 cota 349 which had one problem when I bought it. The gear shift only engaged 1 & 2 gear and that very badly. As the front wheel hub was brocken it took a while for me to find this out and after opening the casing I found the cam was obviously in the wrong position so that it wasn´t possible for it to move any further after 2nd to engage a higher gear. After having moved this back I could get all the gears but 2nd. was very difficult to engage and could only be selected from 3rd. going back down. I have now tried again but cant get the right positioning of the selector unit as I don´t know how it should all be. At present I can now get 1st and…

  11. Hello everyone. In the welcome area I was helped greatly with my decision to buy this bike - thank you. I am super happy with it and am thrilled to begin this trials journey. I took the bike out for a proper run for the first time today down the local byways and across a private estate, it rides brilliantly and I am amazed with how capable it is! I'm used to my Royal Enfield which is such a pig! Here are pictures from todays run: I am however having a few problems. I've never owned a two stroke before and I undersand the fine line between the intake and exhaust function, so is flooding a two stroke easier than a four stroke? So the problem: From cold I turn on th…

  12. I just bought a 2005 4RT which is great. Yesterday I went to the local Honda/Yamaha/Husaberg/Beta shop to get a part for my vintage 74 TY250 and noticed a 4RT sitting in the service department. The service manager said that the fuel pump was bad and wondered if I knew where to get one. Honda/Montesa are doing a poor job of supplying parts here in the states. I have searched the forums and and the internet and have not found a reasonable "walk into the auto parts store" replacement for the 4RT fuel pump. I would like to see this bike fixed for a reasonable cost as trials riding mates are hard to come by in South West Colorado. Has anyone tried the H and D Racing ligh…

Hello! I am new in the world of trial so i need to learn a lot. I have just purchased 2003 315r for and it is so much fun to ride. What I have noticed during my first few rides is that radiator fan is running a lot. This means that soon after sturtup it starts running and is runing more or less the whole time. The bike doesn`t owerheat yet, but I don`t know what will happen in a summer months. Is this normal? I have checked coolant and it`s ok. Radiator is not blocked. I am riding mostly tails in 3rd, 4th gear, so I gues wind mooving trough the radiator should cool the engine enough to switch of the fan. Here is allsoa few pics of my new machine!

I am thinking of revisiting this model, I would use it in trials at a low club level, Now they are so old what's the reality of obtaining parts, gaskets engine parts, gearbox parts etc in the event of a 23 yr old part giving up? Is it scouring the net looking for a used part or certain items being unobtainable... Advise please

  16. Started by tordijarres,

I've switched to a 315 master cylinder- the problem is I can't get the clutch to work properly- the lever feel is as if there's air in it, but having chucked a load of DOT 4 through the system- it's still no better. I'm wondering if this could be due to the fact this fluid's been standing for a long time- it looks very slightly milky, OR is it that you need to bleed the clutch "bottom up"? Thanks

  17. Started by dirtydalesman,

Evening all. Went out for a play on the Montesa yesterday and one of the rear shocks cried enough. My dad got these with it in 1986. Presumably swapped to the ones on it because the valve parted company on one and the oil escaped. I haven't seen shocks like these before. Are the valves just for oil, or do you pressurise with air as well?

So my rear shock is broken across the lower mount. Can anyone out there help me out with a s/h shock, or let me know if there's an alternative to Sandifords? I'm guessing they're not cheap things to replace.... Cheers Rob
