Trust Me , the old girls drums are as real as they get ... Still not disc , But they function better than designed ... And you can put the stock tank back on and gain about 1/2 a litre more fuel .
Glenn
(now just some Maxton suspension bits ... And all will be grand )

Contact Buchanans wheel service if your in the usa ... They are are the bomb !!! ( and more than reasonable !!)

Serious Ty 80 Mods ? Am I Nuts or WHAT ?

But the miata racing does bring in some work to go along with working on all the other BS that rolls (or towed) thru the door .............
But check out this website that I may relocate my 3000lbs of toolbox and experiance to . Besides the Italians, check out the edison 2 project too ! ( the future looms ) europeanroadandracing.com/ Karl is the real deal . period . And there is a '73 Europa big valve 5 speed special sitting on his lot that needs a good home ........!

Hey Doug ;
Wish I cpould make the trip ... But I have to go play crew cheif for a spec miata enduro this weekend . This job has kinda infringed on my trials times ...
Have fun anyway.

Great job Steve ! Between Matt getting newspaper articles and Phil and Pat on TV , North America may get to know trials again ! Like it's heyday here when we were kids ...
Keep him Focused and shake his hand for me !

Just wondering if any of you folks across the pond (besides Steve Saunders) have used the new to the market Maxton trials shocks ?
I've heard that they are the best out there , bar none ... Just wondering if anyone has any experience with them ?
Thanks for any info , and I know they are not cheap buy any measure !

Earlier this year I went to a Ryan Young trials school . On the second day after class I asked Ryan to give my trusty 83 fantic 240 pro a shakedown ride so I could get his opinion of how I had the old girl set up ... After he was riding it for about 15 seconds he started doing things that I didn't think a twinshocker was easily capable of . Needless to say I can never blame the bike again !
And with his ever present grin , Ryan said I need a bit more spring preload in front . Still haven't got round to doing it though ...
Weekend before last I went to a event put on by our national twinshock champ ,Larry Holbert , He was riding his old montesa against some modern bikes and was pure poetry to watch ...
Like they used to say ... Roger Decoster could've won on a honda trail 90 !
-
I couldn't have said it better ! I spent a weekend riding with Karl jr.at ttc a year or more ago and I was amazed at the lack of self preservation ... Hence this old man will ride the trusty Fantic in twinshock events till I can't ride anymore !
-
Knowing where you are in the world would most likely be some needed info ... !

Check the splines on the shaft and the kickstart , and make sure the is no depris in the clamp section to stop it from coming together ...
Glenn
-
Not to be mean , But I'd start looking for the bits to make it all original ... Will most likely be alot less frustrating in the long run !!! I'm sure the parts can be sourced in your neck of the woods .
Glenn Good luck with her

Beautiful Box of bits ... No apologies needed !!!!

FANTIC = " Freakin awesome near trials intense conditions " ???
Fiat = Famous Italian Automotive Tragedy
-
But did you notice the 240Z in their scrolling banner ad ??? I'd love to find a 240 worth the effort over here !
Glenn
And that is a wee bit much for the Fantic ...
-
The few times I've got to ride with Larry has always been a learning experiance ... Just a pleasure to watch him !

Looks to be one of the last XL185 models , good bikes but kinda TANKish !!!!

Befreind the fuel man at your local small airport ... Ave.gas works great , stores almost forever , and compared to the problems you encounter with ethanol fuels , will be cheaper in the long run !
Heck it even works great in my lawnmower and my kids clone powered oval dirt track go kart ...(not a toy ! ) I even sneek it into our spec Miata race cars and always run it for the local autocrosses too !
