I'm more than happy with my steel bodied Falcons on my 240 , Serious improvement over the stock shocks ...
And you'd have to be a pro level rider to notice the weight difference in the alloy body's !!!!!
I've heard NJB trikshoks work well too , but have never tried a set , being on this side of the pond >
Get some WES fork springs to go with your new shocks , and /or see what Chris at classic trials is working for fantic front ends .
Have fun with your bike !!!

Way too cool !
But now what are you gonna do for her birthday ???
And Happy birthday to you too .
Cheers

Looks sharp Lee , But hot pink would've been unique !!! And no one would want to try it !!!

Never heard of forward kick Fantics having a issue breaking kickstarter shafts , Kickstart levers wearing out , yes ...(I've got a collection !) If my memory still works ??? there should be a o-ring on the shaft down in the case and a seal/oring at the outer case to inner case joint ...
Just my thoughts while I cook for me kids ...

Nature of the beast ! I've got a buddy that rode for Fantic back when our bikes were new and he say's they did it then too ... That's why the 300's have a larger clutch and less torque when they where new ...
I beleive it's a surface area thing . And new springs and or washers under the springs will only help wear the weak actuating mechinism out ...
And really ; how often do you use top gear in a trial ???? I tend to relax and just cruise on the loop and catch my breath , look at the sites etc.
As long as mine doesn't slip at all up to 4th gear (and I've only experienced it in 6th gear that I've ever noticed , and that was on pavement ...) I can live with it just fine . So the bikes had two design flaws , The ungreasable swing arm bearings (THANKS Chris !!!@classic trial ) and a clutch that was designed for trials riding as it was done at that time . ( and just above adequate then ) IT IS STILL the BEST OUT OF THE CRATE TWINSHOCK ever massproduced !!!! That's why we love them !!!!

Almost every 240 I've ever riden slips a bit in top gear , if it really bothers you , I beleive you can add a extra steel clutch disc ... I have found thru trial and tribulations that Silkolene light gear oil gives me the best and most consistant clutch action ...

If he rode a honda trail 90 He'd still be light years ahead of us ...

Gary ; This isn't FAIR !!! your up there putting together and riding all of these beautiful bikes and I'm stuck down here sweating my but off building spec miata's and just put one of our 6 jenson healy's on a rotisserie rack to strip it to a bare shell and see how far I can take the E prod. rules ...
I rode my 240 for about 5 min. last weekend after playing with the internal clutch adjustment and changing the oil ... Gotta go out to my shop now and build a wheel for a freinds RM ... And then off to the shop to make some brackets to weld onto a toyota 4x4 rearend so it can go into the jenson with the proper 4link geometry And then start bending tubing for the rollcage/chassis stiffener ... And we are still thinking of a rover 3500 V8 into a early spitfire for a real fun autocross car ...
But I will make some time to get to a event again sometime this year !!! I gotta play too !!!

Hi Bernie ; Just a few thoughts ...
1.Bike needs ducati coil ...
2. Kill switch lead is there somewhere shorting your ignnition ...??##%%???
3. Bike is about 30 years old ! pull off the sidecover and flywheel , buy some quality wire in the correct colors and get your soldering iron and heatshrink tubing out and rewire the ignition !!! So ypu know it's right , a dead bike on the trail is a pia for all involved !!! (and a poor connection or a broken wire that you may never find could be the whole problem .)
4. ENJOY the heck out of the bike and learn all about her ! THEY ARE FANTASTIC BIKES !!!
Have Fun !

You may want to start off with a late model coil , like we do on the 240's (and my kids 50 !) Steve Goode is the man for them in your neck of the woods .
Good luck
Glenn
-
But only if I can bring my 50 and my bicycle too ...
And Gary , contact Ishy on here , He may still have a 200 and a bunch of parts ...!

Twinshock 250... "cause he could " !!!! Gary ; work of art ! I was just out in the shop playing with the clutch and changing the oil on my 240 and after a quick test ride decided if I want to go ride the event in Bunn NC. tomorrow I'd have to ride my 11 yr. old son's mucho modified ty80 in the vintage class... But common sense prevails as I have to tune our fresh 'spec miata ' monday for a national @ VIR next weekend ... And I really should break down and split the cases on my 240 and give her the 28 yrs. of use serious overhaul !!! Everything else is state of the art , so the heart should be too !!!
I may make it up to your neck of the woods soon on some family business , I'll try to plan it around a event up there ...

When Buchanan's here in the states made up the stainless spokes and nipples and loose laced the Excel rims to my Fantic hubs a while back , they came with a anti seize /oil on the threads and nipple seats . Makes Maintenance alot easier ! But that was something I was taught eons ago whilst building up some MG TF wheels , now those take some work to get round and true ...!

And I would have to add that Tony's Bullet is the Sweetest Tractor that I've ever had the opportunity to swing a leg over . Incredible torque and fantastic handling !!! Along with the extraordinary craftsmanship and ingenuity applied to the old beast ! One of my most memorable trials experiences .
Glenn

Where was I when this all came about ? As usual I'm lost ...

He took the trusty old Fantic for a spin after Saturdays session , and after hopping and bopping about on it like a bunny for a few minutes rode back up to us and exclaimed " What a great cheater bike !" And him just playing about on it takes all of my "it's a old twinshock excuses and throw's them out the window ".
Now if I can learn to do the things he did after about 15 seconds on my bike ........
Practice Practice Practice
One of our guys is a Great photographer and committed alot of the first day to video , So we should get a clip or two out pretty soon .

If you ever get a chance to attend a class given by by Ryan , do whatever it takes to get to it ...
1; THE BEST instructor ever.
2: More relateable knowledge than anyone I've ever met .
3; Patience unending ...
4; Unbelievable Skills on a bike .
5; You will come away a much better rider .
6; You will use muscles you didn't know were there.
7; You will still be sore a day or two later .
8; The grin on your face may become permanent .
9; And your Brain will absorb info on how to do just about anything you will ever encounter in a section .
10; Then Practice , Practice , Practice , Practice ,until you can just put it all into practice ...
And if you can't make it to a class , get and study his DVD's ! It all works ! Even for a old guy like me

At some point a high octane rating becomes overkill , but it will not damage your bike ...,some tuning may be wanted to make the most of it though .
Clean quality fuel is very important to us trials guys, as a misfire or surge or hesitation at the wrong time can be quite painful !!! And I would keep any ethanol blended fuel far away from a fuel injected bike too ...
And to the question about startron additive , I use it in my lawnmower and weedwacker and tell my streetbike riding customers to use it too , a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure ! (and the marine industry seems to love the stuff too ...!)

I'm lucky , There is a small airport about 5 miles from my house and I've been running av/gas for about six years now in all our bikes without any issues , And yes they've been tuned to use it ,well worth the effort to me over having to deal with ethanol in fuel , I see enough problems from it with the day to day cars at work ...
And have you heard the latest news ? Food prices expected to rise even more due to a corn shortage for livestock feed here in the US ... Seems our goverment has been giving our stockpiles to the ethanol producers to help them out ... And these people want to run our banks , auto industry and healthcare !!!
Glenn
On edit; And as little as I get to ride , the storage benefits of the fuel are a great plus for me too !!

All I can add to this topic is with my trusty old Fantic I cross referenced the OE. plug out to a Denso irridium a few years ago and have not had a ign. problem since . She generally starts 1st or 2nd kick no matter how long it's been since I got to ride or the temp from cold , And always seems to take just a single kick when warmed up ... I beleive they make the most of the Fantics known weak ign. systems . In fact I bought two when I got them and the 2nd one is still unused in the toolbox on the bike .
And as to indexing plugs , I build spec miata motors for scca racing and that is one of the details that helps get every ounce of power a "stock" motor can produce ! Haven't experimented with indexing on the fantic yet , as strapping her to the chassis dyno may be a chore ...

Been there , done that ...
It can hurt ... (alot !)
