Terrific bike if it's in good shape,ajp brakes and clutch parts are far more reliable than formula,it could have either'negotiate price if it has formula.general condition should tell you what life it's had,if bash plate is chewed up and pushed up towards the engine it's probably had a hard time,check around rear shock mount and steering head for cracks.ask owner about his maintenance wants the air filter cleaned very trial,gear oil every 6 trials,look in the airbox if it's really dirty walk away. Consumables are easily replaced but if it's not basically sound it's a money pit

Sounds like it's too rich will it start from cold without the choke..? Check the floats in the carb do float(might be punctured)and check the float hight run it on 60/1premix

Only way to tell is whip the head off and measure the bore and stroke,no telling what a previous owner might have done to it . Regarding 300 have a go on one you may like it more than the 280,more 300 for sale than 280

If the master cylinder has the same size bore then yes

Seems expensive would be £900 ish in the uk,consumables are readily available but specific parts might be a problem , good bike in its day though M ontesa 315 or Yam ty 250 from that era would be a better buy

Haven't heard anything good or bad about them but the Hebo brown leather ones are excellent once broken in,very pleased with mine

Whether they would loosen up enough is hard to answer but would have only second hand value if they don't . I would send them back and go to a dealer that stocks many brands and get the boots that suit you best Out of the box the Gaernes and Forma are the most comfortable but the wrong size through mail order might be cheaper but you'll never be happy with them

Sounds like you need a new fan switch

Any good synthetic will be fine from a manufacturer you recognise

Going on past experience I would never use Falcon again,but have used Andy Dawson and his work is excellent,swift and well priced

Scorpa sounds favourite 280 gas gas would be a handful and weren't that sorted at that age.Fantic wouldn't depreciate but is far more limited in ability and may become difficult and expensive to get parts for

What colour does the plug come out?It should be light brown,if it's white or grey it's too weak.4 psi doesn't sound enough pressure to prove or disprove an air leak.The problem was there before the motor was rebuilt,is there with different carbs,makes me think it's something you haven,t changed.Start it then get your oil can and dribble oil all round the inlet.If there is a leak it will start smoking as it sucks the oil in.I don.t think it's ignition related

Different frame,different brake so no unless you are a good engineer

Doesn't sound too bad £300 should fix it,250/300 are identical apart from top end.Kickstart assembly is thus strained with the bigger piston,not too bad to replace makesure no bits have embedded in the clutch/crankshaft gears,a tiny bit makes it knock like you wouldnt believe.You sometimes needs magnyfying glass to see it.The clutch normally rattles till you pull it in,Worth spending a bit of money and time on,it's not hugely different from a new one

Have you heard it run or are you taking the vendors word for it that it starts if you bump it.Check the valve clearances and clean the connector plugs on the injection and ignition systems, a tiny bit of water or corrosion in these can cause problems. Have you tried a brand new plug

Great bike,check linkage for play,genaral wear and tear,ask owner how frequently he changes gear oil,wants to be every 6 meetings or less,clutches sometimes drag but easily fixed,check its got genuine gear lever and brake pedal,aftermarket ones are sometimes too soft,not too much for a novice with a slow action throttle

Not worth the risk re-using them

If you can't find one a small machine shop could make and fit one for you,it's not a difficult job

Noticeably better than standard,but standard is good enough for anyone below national championship level

Don't mistake piston noise with cluch rattle,all pro's do it.Does it go quieter if you pull in the clutch with it ticking over?Check the linkage bearings,put a stand under the bash plate and try lifting the rear wheel,any play will be obvious,good bargaining point if worn.Have a look in the airbox,well maintained bikes don't have a box full of c--p.Look for chewed up bolt heads and general bodging,if it all seems ok you'll love it,they were great bikes and not hugely different from the present one
