Hose them down when I do the bike,let them dry in the garage then every third or fourth outing rub them with supermarket own brand(cheeeeaaap!) neutral shoe polish. I don't use anything in aerosol form (WD40,furniture polish etc..) as it seems to rot the stitching.

Can't help with the plugs but the lubed main bearings you are describing are found in a GasGas Pro model. My mates have used ATF in their Pro's with no problems.

I reckon the 'acid' you're asking about is caustic soda. I guess the reason you've had no replies is that it is very hard to recommend using this stuff as it is a health and safety nightmare. If you can find it..watch out it's nasty.

From work, it takes 5 secs for the front page to complete then 3 for the forums (today, Sunday A.M.). That's using virgin 2.2 Meg which according to the Atom test is only 1003 kbps ! Like Atom says there are other factors to consider. (For the record I am barely computer-capable.) If it's any relevance, I was getting a little impatient last month with the site( I am addicted) so I bought some more RAM for the PC and that's made a hell of a difference at my end.

Acetone?? That's a surface tension reducer?Yes? I've looked into this before. I've used it in my car before and It seemed to give a little more MPG, never noticed any performance enhancement though. In your bike,you would have it sitting in the tank for days or weeks absorbing moisture?..no thank you. I wouldn't even add it to my bike if I used my bike every day .

Zip-ties have saved me buying many a rear mud-guard on the different bikes I've had in the past. Leave the front (vertical) bolt in place and remove the rear (horizontal) 2 bolts. Remove the captive-nuts from the back of the airbox. Thread one cable tie(english version) through the guard and airbox hole and tighten..repeat for the other side. Check that the mud-guard still keeps the crap out of the airbox and.. voila.........The idea is that the ties snap in an emergency and not the plastic mud-guard (hopefully the guard just lifts a little and pivots on the front bolt). I keep a selection of spare cable ties slotted into my bar-pad cover. This procedure is not a guarantee of any sort, but like I say, I use it and it's worked for me. It works for daft little flips but it can't help with the high speed ,cartwheel, get-offs that the experts have. P.S> I remember that the unpainted 97black/98 red rear mud-guards were the cheapest. Hmm..I've been struggling with the correct foot position for sometime now,when i panic I keep moving back onto the ''balls''(ooh err!)or worse..toes.. to maintain balance. This error has to be pointed out to me about a hundred times a session. Many times I thought I was loading the pegs but all I was doing was flexing my calves instead. My balance goes to pot when I put my arches on the pegs but that is the superior position for tyre grip,covering the back-brake and loading the rear suspension. When my arches are on the pegs I feel as if I am trapped on the bike and won't be able to bale-out in an emergency(Chicken 5h1t???). Wayne

Is this why the guy is world champ? He doesn't seem to be nervous in competition. He's got corporate pressure of Montesa/Honda bearing down on him,his team mate Fuji, then Raga and Cabs waiting for him to make a mistake..and we spot him doing an adrenaline section just to play( like hundreds of us with our bikes,relatively speaking just letting off steam/having fun/sod the risk.) Up until a few months ago I would have totally agreed with your post then someone showed me that a splatter can be a safer!? way to tackle an obstacle. I'm no expert. It is one of those ''leap of faith'' techniques but it does feel very satisfying when you pull it off( ooh err). Strange how some of these errors can get you narked. When Burnicle took a break a couple of years ago the substitute commentator kept saying '' He's through the section without putting his foot down...it's a clear''. CLEAR!? So I find myself shouting at the telly ''C-L-E-A-N'' . I find Burnicle more ''interesting'' than Murray Walker. I'm almost sure during one particular commentary he called someones minder '' A part-time car thief from....'' And I'm sure Orangina (sponsor of one section) was not best pleased when Burnicle said the liquid reminded him of an effluent out-flow at the ICI chemical-works where he used to live! As for the bike reference I seem to recall the 270 has so much wallop it can pop up steps and splat on a whiff of throttle therefore you could cover the brake more easily???? I was being a little flippant. And no I'm not part of the ''my bike's better than your bike club'',the more brands you can cadge a ride on the better as far as I'm concerned( I find when it comes to trials bikes..like chips..other people's seem better).
