  1. Marky the bike i have has 10/50, first still very low dont know why this combination was put on, Did you do anything with front M/Guard they are very short at back even with a flap Vinnie Hi Vinnie, Not looked at ther front guard, but I agree it is rarther short. Havn't had chance to alter the gearing yet, I rode it last weekend at our local South Shropshire Trial and I really enjoyed it , It feels much better now the motor is starting to loosen up a bit....still riding nearly all the sections in first gear , I'm going to wait until the motor is run in before I decided about the gearing change. The little Scorpa is amazing me just how well it grips in bottom gear, I think one of it's strong points is how the motor will just rev and rev, seems to rev harder than a Honda TLR that I was in the company of (the owner of the Honda said mine sounded like a 500 Ariel after I'd done the pipe mod). I've changed the oil three times with Castrol GTX for now, I'll switch over to fully Synth oil when I think it's run in. The clutch on mine is fine after I made the actuating arm longer, my Alloy tank has sprung a slight leak so I'm using the std one for now.....no problems either with the back tubed tyre that some folk said were crap, I swear by IRC tyres, so that was the first thing that went on instead of the std Michelin. laters
  2. One of the best formats I've rode recently was the ACU classic round's....Simple, everyone rode the same route!...twinshocks~aircooled monos~pre 65...the lot (and even modern stuff). No confusion with different colour markers, just one good old fashioned trials route set out just right. It was nice to see the Likes of Nigel Birkett riding his Suzuki T/Shock and some of the other guys out there riding older bikes and doing well beating some of the guys on the modern tack. The way the engine is sounding in my 12 year old TY250, It's getting quite a challenge in itself to finish a trial, let alone ride the hard route
  3. I know it's one big mutha of a sprocket
  4. I think it does depends on the club who's putting the trial on, I can see your from my neck of the woods so you'll ride the same trials as me I guess? Some clubs round here will have Novice, Inter, and Expert + 0/40's...others will have Begginer , clubman, inter, Expert + O/40's and all the C+D routes etc etc. I'll ride the clubman route all the time, but..if there's no clubman route I'll ride the novice route...there no way I'm going to pop for the hard route, I tried the inters when i came back into trials in January and I found myself dropping 100+ marks..not much fun fiving everything that me and the old TY tried to do. What route do you ride D/Boy?
  5. Spoke to my local dealer today (Steve Goode) RE: the gearing, he said it was a common moan and Scorpa were aware of it. He thinks Talon do a 59 T back sprocket, he was saying the gearbox sprocket is already small (11 T), I did try and get in touch with Scorpa UK via email but no Joy. I would have a guess and say the Yamaha engine has still the gearing of the 'road going' TTR, thats why the Scorpa has a massive back sprocket and a tiny front one. I'll post my findings if I can get hold of a Talon. Mark
  6. What a load of BS!! I can see we have some real experts on this thread I find the Clubman route (in between the hard route and the easy route) is just what I like.......I can come away from a trial feeling like I've enjoyed the day out on me bike...not like I'd been through the mill on the hard route. Bikespace, I've forgot what was the trial near Newtown (I think) was called a few months ago, but I the hard route was pretty hard, I think it was renamed the A & E trial on the hard route. I was sat waiting my turn and I watched some young lad almost breaking his leg trying to get up a near impossible climb out of a stream. Horses for courses I suppose, I've been there and done that..don't want it any more "Shizzolate that ****" as Snoop dog says!! I'll leave the bravardo to HRC2000 & Co http://www.asksnoop.com/
  7. Ishy, what did you think of the gearing? I think mine is too low in first gear and second gear is too high for standing start pull offs up a hill (if you know what i mean). I'm looking into altering the gearing (currently 11 / 57) The last trial i rode at Hawkstone park (all hills) i did it all in first gear!! I reckon a 250 version would be spot on, the only thing I can really fault with the 125 you do have to rev the thing to make her go. Mark
  8. Used to ride expert route (and loved it) but then had a 9 year lay off and now i find the hard route 'too hard' so i ride the clubman route which is spot on. I guess as you get older you want different things out of trials, I look at the expert route on some trails and think to myself "sod that"! just getting out on my bike is good enough for me now
  9. Haynes do a manual, it cover not just the TTR 125 but loads of other models and engine size's. Haynes Manual number = 2350 You can order it straight from there website (which I've forgotton the url to, but Google will find it ;-). Hope you like it
  10. Hi Guys, I'm looking to sort the gearing out a bit better on my 125 4st. I'm finding that second gear dosen't like to pull very well from a standing start up say a hill climb, I'm having to do most decent climbs in first gear!. I know this is going to be a bit suck it and see, I was thinking of going one tooth up on the gearbox sprocket, some body once told me that one tooth on the g/box sprocket is worth 3 teeth on the back!! is this right?. Doing it my way I'm hoping to make second gear more lower (is that right?) I've not really messed around with gearing before so any input would be great cheers P.S Where would i get non std sprockets from??
  11. Don't listen to Spencey, he knows **** ALL !!

    What Went Wrong

I never done an SSDT, thought about entering the 05 event but a couple of things are putting me off......talking to some local lads where I ride, it seems that it's a real struggle to get a ride in the first place, one guy I know said he's entered 7 times and been turned down 7 times Reading between the lines there does seem to be 'if your face fits' your in! (just my opinion) and the time thing seems like a real pain (see qoute above)........I think I'll give it a miss
  15. Got hold of a Beta video in the late 80's with Jordi riding the TR34 to some dodgy pet shop boys music in the background it showed the TR34 Being made then yer man riding it (thats when the crap music came in!)...I must have worn the video recorder out watching that vid As for bikes, I guess it depneds on how old you are and what you started riding on.......for me it has to be the TY 250 mono....rose tinted specs and all

    Scorpa 175 4st

I cut them stupid 'burn guards' off mine and had it chromed and I reckon it's made it look 100% better

    Scorpa 175 4st

Was the 175 kit a factory mod I wonder?.......I would imagine the carb would also have to be changed too. It could be that 175cc is too big of a step for the little yam lump, our friends across the water already have a 143cc kit which I presume goes ok...or am i wrong on that count? mark as for the ugly thing.....shame on you guys, bikes have hearts too ya know
  18. Oh Dabster, dont take it the wrong way mate...sorry if it come over that i thought you were taking the p*** out of the youth of today..... I'd be glad to stump up a few quid a year to help the good boys (and girls) to get on at a higher level. Have it as an option every year I say. Mark
  19. How did Tom finish up in the SSDT?? I bet Dabster can't wait to find out
  20. I am also going down the Twinshock road. I could buy any modern Bike and win Trials every other week, but it's not about awards. I have an attic full of plastic trophys already. I have a family now and can't afford to travel all over the coutry riding nationals, I want to pull a bike out the garage every now and then and have a laugh. If I turn up to a Trial on a modern bike people will expect me to win - myself included, after a while the enjoyment fades and it starts becoming a chore. Hopefully with the Twinshock there won't be any expections to win, especially if I ride the expert route. I don't know why Eric and others want to ride Twinshocks - hey perhaps they enjoy it! well said Steve, I'm not really into the T/Shock thing myself, but I have just bought myself a Scorpa 125 for much the same reason as you mentioned in you last post. It's different form the norm and it's a bit more of a challenge to ride than the latest 290 Sherbetamonta all singing dancing bike. I've been riding a few of the ACU Classic rounds recently and it's great to see the boys out on the T/Shocks and riding them hard as they were meant to be ridden
  21. Ahh max the dog....That dog will eat anything! he chewed most the seat cover off and ripped out most of the foam on my Kawasaki road bike....it took the vet two hrs to get my size 9 boot out of his a*** after that little chew fest. As for the balancing act...a trick of the eye, here's a shot from the back showing the side stands
  22. Took this this weekend just before I start to strip the motor
  23. The Old and the New..how things have changed over the years
  24. Next trial for me is 8th May (Llangollen I think) can't wait
