  5. "Talk about the long way around" In WTC trials there are 3 courses Red, blue and green. If you are riding the red course you are not allowed to go through any blue or green gates. Similar with other colours Blue cannot go through green or red. In the video the rider is competing on the blue course. You will see miss the green gate, by the trees towards the end, and he attemps to ride to the right of a red marker very close to the end. When he goes through his gate (Blue) he is allowed to find his own way to the next set of blue gates without going through other colour gates. I would have 5 him before he got to the hill because he crosses over his own track earlier on when he does a 180deg turn to part climb the hill. I recieved a lot of stick at hawkstone for 5ing the red route riders who droped thier front wheel through a blue marker near the beginning of the section. Observed correctly I say. Riding out of the boundaries is a hot potato. Hopefully the observer will nip it in the bud on the 1st lap. The course plotters can try and block the short cuts with part tape, or give the observer some tape and if the observer sees a short cut he is allowed to tape it off. I understand that he would have to have some experiance as an observer for this to work.

  7. Entry Forms Event secretaries have to keep entry forms for a number of years incase some puts a claim in. In the case of youths we have to hold onto them until they reach the age of 21. So I doubt if the b#star# who stole the bike got the address from an entry from.

  10. From Bardford & DMC website www.bradfordtrials.co.uk June 1910 Bradford to Edinburgh and Back An innovation in the way of competitions is to be introduced by the Bradford Motor Cycle Club in connection with its twenty four hours run to Edinburgh and back on July 16th and 17th. Mr S Johnson, an energetic official of the club laid the scheme before the club committee on Tuesday evening, and briefly it is as follows: Mr Johnson considers that long distance reliability trials are too monotonous and will die a natural death on the account of the unfailing reliability of present day machines, instancing the fact that only 11 entries were received from a membership of 120 for the recent Bradford to London and back twenty fours run. By inviting entries of teams of 3 riders, novices and others who do not care for solitary twenty four hour jaunts will be encouraged to enter because a team may be formed of a party of 3 friends, and all will be allowed to ride together and help each other, and it is to their advantage to do so, as the team scoring the highest number of marks will win the trophy. A team at checks and the finish are timed in accordance with the last man's schedule, so that on the last man practically depends on the success of the team. In addition to the trophy a gold medal will be presented to each member of the winning team (should a team not an individual rider be successful) and clubs may nominate teams or individual teams may enter as desired, the event being open, and under ACU rules. Another new departure is in connection with the passenger class. To encourage further entries, it has been decide to present gold medals to the passenger as well as the driver of successful passenger combinations, and further a change of driver will be permitted.

  13. A great debate just what the forum needed. Good to see John Collins hang back but I knew he would have to answer in the end. Thanks John. If you read the initial post the question was what would you do as Clerk of Course? Some of you answered scrub the section others ban the observer and a few said 'name and shame' The situation was a hypothetical situation, but it could happen Some silly answers, some constructive and well thought answers. Naming and shaming them to me was not the way I would have sorted it. Evidence from spectators cannot be taken. For those who said scrub the section I believe would have been the 'correct' answer if the situation ever happened. If rider 'B' had spoken to me prior to his protest I would have advised him to hang back whilst I spoke to the observer. If the observer confirmed what he said in the intial question, I would have instructed the rider 'B' to put his protest in. I would then have upheld the protest, scrubbed the section from the results and given his protest money back. When rider 'A' appealed against my decision plus the protests from the other 30+ riders I would have informed them prior to taking thier money that there was no other solution and that they would be wasting thier money. I would then suggest they withdraw the appeal and protests. Hopefully common sense will prevail Remember Clerk of Course is not just
  14. Update: Naming and shaming is not going to sort out the results. Just recieved a phone call from rider 'A'. He has evidence (verble )from specatators that rider 'B' dropped a 1 on the 1st lap and a 2 on the 2nd lap. Rider 'B' will appeal against the CoC for scrubbing the results of the said section. This now involves the stewards of the trial. If you were the steward of the trial what would you do.
  15. Right, I haave now scrubbed the section and amended the results. This now makes rider 'B' the winner and also the 2008 Champion. Rider 'A' is reduced to 2nd place but is now 4th in the championship and all other riders drop down 1 position. Next day (still within the time limit) I receive 33 letter with protests. Was it thier fault that there was a problem between rider 'B' and the observer??. Why should rider 'A' be dropped to 2nd and the other 32 riders drop down 1 position. What do I do now???
  16. You are the clerk of course for a National Trial which is 2 laps of 25 sections. The method of marking is TSR22a. You have briefed all the observers and sent them on their way. The trial finishes and the results cards added up. You notice that one rider (we will call him rider
  17. Remember if he wants to compete in any ACU event (Trial) he cannot have anything over 125cc. You may find good 250cc around at reasonable prices but iy will be a waste of your money.

Well done to the CoC for cancelling the 2nd lap. It was horrendous for the observers. T My section the water rode more than 12" in less than 30mins and became impossible. here was no way I could have stayed out on the moor for another 4 hours. Results are on www.bardfordtrials.co.uk
  20. But there again if it was not for the riders I would have no where to go on a Sunday to observe. Through experiance most riders in the BC know if they are out or pretty close to being out of time, but maybe the 'minders', 'press' have a different type of watch. I have never had a problem with the rider.

  24. Here is the brief I recieved this morning The Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme The governing body of world motorcycle trials sport, the F.I.M. announced today from their Geneva base that Graham Jarvis, current British Trials Champion, has been awarded a licence to promote the British round of the World Motorcycle Trials Championship on May 17 at a venue between Penrith and Carlisle. The event will run over a three day period one week after the Scottish Six Days Trial at Fort William. The date will mean that competitors for the event will travel from Fort William and travel south via the M6 motorway to the world trial. end
  25. The Timperley Cup Trial will be run on Sunday 16th February at Yarnbury, North of Grassington. This event is one of the few Centre Championship trials just having one course. There will be 20 sections to be ridden twice on land that is only used once a year. The sections will be good old fashioned which will be siutable for all adults and Youth A & B. Due to YDNP, landowners, English Heritage etc etc. we cannot take day entries therefore all entries mus be to the secretary bu 15th February. Regs are obtainable on the Bradford Clubs website. Further details can be obtained by ringing the secretary of the event as shown on the regs. Sorry I cannot put regs on this forum. (I dont think)
