  1. 1 st thing to check would be the top hat under the clutch. It sits at the end of the shift shaft. You may get lucky adjusting the eccentric which is located at the same spot. Do a search for Jim Snells videos which he shows how to do it. Trials parts usa also has the videos somewhere in his site.
  2. Bar risers are never needed, but each to there own choices. How many short people raise the pegs? Basic human anatomy. Arm span = Height.
  3. First is very surprising. A bike jumping out of gear can be very unsettling. ( I rode Montesa`s that were scary) I would pull the clutch cover off and have a look. If you look at the manual 3.5.2 on gear changing. It is possible to break the piece on the center cases just above the shift mechanism. ( The piece where it has like three reinforced pieces coming to it) Also check the rollers on the end of the shift drum. Good Luck. He does not have the shifter mounted too low?
  4. The Gasser has more room than most modern bikes. Risers are not the answer. Tall has nothing ever to do with it as your arm span is usually close to your height. Lately all new riders want risers. I have yet heard a short guy say he wants to raise the foot pegs! My son hops well. A few trials ago a group of Enduro riders bought a Beta to learn to ride with. First thing they did was put risers on the thing. My son tried to hop the bike, but the risers destroyed the feel of a normal riding position. What it did is take away the initial leverage point , making it something awkward to ride. Believe me Brian you just need time on the bike. You should try a vintage bike some time, if you get the chance. My little boy at last weeks trial. By the way he`s 6`5 .
  5. Thanks for sharing. Might save some one a lot of grief!
  6. The only 2014 in our club just sits. The owner still prefers his well abused `05.

    Cota 349/4

Looks just like a 350 I had. Wished I never sold it. Great bike.
  8. For a complete waste of time read this http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/topic/53282-reliability/. For the best info on your bike look here http://www.trialspartsusa.com/. You will notice there is no parts book for a 2002 pro,use the 2003 for parts. That is how bad the 2002 was, most engine parts were upgraded. 2003 suspension was all the same.
  9. This was probably the worst bike from gas gas. What you need to know is what the previous owner fixed. Change the tranny fluid monthly and clean the air filter often. synthetic oil at 70-80:1 You bend your legs to ride trials or by a Harley. A heavier rear spring might be needed, the front fork springs can be adjusted with pvc spacers. The stock springs would sag after a year. Welcome to trials, ride often is what you need. One of the best videos is By Ryan Young. Best book was by Bernie Shrieber on basics.
  10. When the 1995 Fantic section came out, they had a crap thermostat. We always wired the fan on. Never saw one need to be replaced.

    Reliability

Last year I got to ride a `like` new 1985 TY350 for a day. Forgot how they were stock. The later rear shock was also a huge improvement.
  12. I`m on the edge of my seat. I have seen a lot of mistakes from all the manufacturers, but this is interesting. Maybe just leave the fuel empty.
  13. A bigger bike can be more fun to ride, but a smaller engine is easier to control. If you actually compete, the less power can mean a better score.
  14. In your case the Beta 200 makes better power than your 200 gasser. Then again my favorite 16 year old ( My God sons little brother) showed up Sunday with a 2015 Beta 200. Nice little bike. And he placed better than ever!
  15. On the older bikes we ran the vent tubes up and also added venting. The bikes could run almost as deep as the air intake. The modern water cooled bikes cannot go through that deep of water depending on temp. We have had numerous cylinders crack. Instead of adding venting, you can notch the flywheel cover to drain. ( On the lower side) Still run the venting up. But I would not ride a modern bike in too deep of water.
  16. That`s funny as soon as I clicked like on Dof2 post I looked at who wrote it. No matter which rules we rode, the all day dab coming from the indoors spoiled (ruined) our sport. All the newbies since cannot be bothered with a five for not ever learning to ride!
  17. I`ve only seen them from Japan. They are cheap, but should go out in standard post. I lost the website. It was a main Beta dealer in Japan.

  19. Our local ITSA club now has a mono class. The NATC nationals allows any air cooled bike, cables, twin shocks. So a modified bike can suit all the vintage I ride. I gave up on AHRMA years ago.
  20. We had one rider in the club get a 2014 through the local Honda dealer. He bent the shift shaft at the first national. The local dealer did not help. We have not had parts through American Honda since the TL`s. Nice to see 2015 having parts.
  21. You want no no-stop. Take away the all day dab and go to 1/2 a second a foot, but completely freestyle! That would be exciting!!
  22. I learned to do nose wheelies on the stock mono ty hubs. I doubt you will ride now what we did back then. In fact that is what I have decided to ride next year.
  23. Trouble is he did not hit the front tire low enough on the zap. The forced compression is the difference.
  24. Actually I have not heard of anyone getting spares from American Honda. Most are coming out of the UK. Besides S3 makes plenty. Locally the bikes will be available in March.
  25. Power itself does not matter. It`s how the bike delivers it to the ground. I don`t think I`ve looked at engine output since the 80`s.
