  1. The early 125`s and 200`s had a lot of txt parts still installed. I would call the person you bought it from to get some history. Chances are they upgraded parts to the mineral oil. Bleeding it probably is not the answer. The finger clutch height needs to be around 17mm. Chances are you are >15. Usually you can replace one steel plate with an .03 plate and be spot on. If the plates were upgraded then a .04 plate would do the job. As previosly noted try to find the you tube vids. Good luck.
  2. Sounds like Raga prefers just to ride indoors. One lap and go home? Hardly worth the effort to set a trials!
  3. Chuck, hope you make it down for april. Bring Mike and the rest of the boys. Expert line looks to be interesting this year.
  4. That picture of me, I had just turned 15 and rode Expert. There were no champ lines back then, and only two classes at the nationals! Know wonder I had such a good time riding with Mick a few years back, we ride alike! And no ty175 could ride the rocks I rode!
  5. Hey Chuck, you are not supposed to use the clutch on a real twinshock! And most of the braking was done with the motor, or were you running with an idle. November 1974.
  6. Well back in the mid seventies all the jap bikes were crap compared to spanish bikes. Reality was they just did not make the same stump pulling power that was needed for the style of riding and rules. Most on here now will say how great the ty`s are. Mainly jap made and plentiful parts. The MAR was a fine machine. Just hard to find parts anymore. And yes just a few years ago I rode a fine example in a couple of vintage events. The bike I rode had just under 100km on it and I enjoyed beating several ty riders. Never rode the 350. Was even more rare in the states. Hope you find one! The ty was very similiar to the MAR. The Ossa just made a lot more power all the way through the rpm`s. Granted both bikes were developed by my hero Mick. I was an Ossa rider, and just loved the bike. The ty did develope into a great bike later on.
  7. You are new ,so this should not really be a problem. This rule has been changed and modified many times through the years. Original rules always kept forward motion, as this is a motorized sport. There have been many reasons for the changes. Mainly time was the first factor as the worlds best riders could spend 30 minutes or more trying to clean a section. Watch how the world round goes this year. It would be a year or two before the rules in the USA are changed or if ever.
  8. The clutch `will` just stay in place. Once you remove it you will see. Yes it`s splined plus the gears on both sides. I know leaving things out sound strange, but a 5mm hollow bolt to hold a clutch together in the first place is very strange
  9. You never said why you were taking off the clutch?
  10. Just use a dab of grease, drill the head off. Remove the clutch, the bolt should come out easy. You can ride with out the bolt until you get the correct one. It is a hollow bolt ment as a oil passage. When the pros first came out the bolt was removed to give better oil flow.(we also left them out since we had to work on the clutch constantly in `02 and `03!)
  11. Yeah I rode. I was hoping the build was for a new rider! The green Bul get sidelined? Did you notice the schedule is out?
  12. I`m more interested if we have a rider to match the power? Should be a good year starting in New Mexico and ending in New Mexico!
  13. The mains could have rusted up!
  14. Probably the only bike around that the brakes almost worked!
  15. Cope, I had one awhile back break off one of those pins on the end of the drum.
  16. Guys , if you followed this post he answered the question straight away. He had a single earth wire instead of the frame as the earth. It was possible that changing out the coil would change to a good ground. The owner `proved` to himself all was good. Which is what he needed to do. People always try to buy coils to fix the problems they don`t understand. I worked in a shop for years and saw this time and time again. I`ve only ridden trials for more than 40 years, and would not send someone to `spend` instead of repair. This would have been the third coil in a short time period according to the past owner.
  17. I have heard of this in other brands with formula brakes, any opinions?
  18. I`m glad you are happy. You should go back to woody`s posts. Coils rarely go out. I would re-think your ground. Either way have FUN!
  19. Well he met Chuck, got the correct RMTA and ITSA info. He is almost in a trials hot spot compared to most in the USA. He also started the same thread in another forum, And I have yet to hijack that one!
  20. Wow, I can`t remember ever having a drop of water on a plug.(At least not at home) I would put the clutch back together. Then fire it up and see what the exhaust smoke looks like. Having pink oil instead of red you might have a bad water pump seal.
  21. Sounds to me like you still have the problem. Have you checked the mains for play? Grab the flywheel and check for up and down play. Saw your first post and mains were the first thing that I have thought of. Would make a nice winter project to get 100% for spring. How old are the kids?

    Top End Re Build

That`s about when the temp changed. It`s pinking as you folks say! I would go one step larger on the pilot jet and run better fuel. Cheap solution, but you might still need to de-carbon your head and piston.

    Top End Re Build

Sounds like it`s pinging. It happens just after you chop the throttle? Could be a little lean on the pilot, or just the fuel. Another cause/cure would be to clean the carbon buildup off the top of the piston. Did it just start? Or did you notice it when the weather became cooler?
  24. Yes, I`ll be carrying the cooler and holding his Tecate!
  25. I might have to find a bigger bike! No, I`ve ridden most of the good rocks at Turkey Rock at one national or another. I just have not ridden much in the last ten years! Bring it on it should be a good year! And thanks for setting Chuck!
