  1. Check the gas cap / vent. Also there was a post by Sting somewhere here about the needle valve falling apart and causing a lean condition.
  2. No Loctite, Sorry no torque specs, always used air. Flywheels rarely come loose unless the key shears. Fantic never had much service info.
  3. It takes a bpr5es not b5es. The `P` stands for projected tip. It is slightly longer at the tip.
  4. All the newbies hate no-stop (which are the correct rules forever) All the real trials riders hate the all day dab. (If you try to ride well, you can be beat by a guy with less skill). And now we are back to `it depends on who`s scoring`. Make it simple. Outdoor rides with the same rules as indoor. Everyone can figure that out. Except with a very tight time limit. Not 1.5 minutes a section. How about 1 second for every two meters long each section is! Measured beforehand on the line of intent and marked at the start gate of each section. Ride no stop, time is on your side. If you just gotta hop, you are chancing a 5 not from the scorer but from that you are a slow rider!!
  5. Rock the bike back and forth in 4th or fifth. Start it vback in nuetral. Make sure you have room to ride. If is still stuck ,ride around with the clutch in a apply the brakes for about ten minutes. If that don`t work ,try a small wheelie with the clutch pulled in. Good Luck!!!
  6. I said it is a terrible choice for a first bike. Hard hitting, quick handling and poor gripping are not 1st on a new riders list. If you paid any attention to my 3rd sentence you would know that I get along with it just fine. Lastly it is the worst bike made as for reliability. And the one`s that argue against that statement have not split the cases yet!
  7. Your bike setup has to be wrong or some item of your riding gear must be catching. I have never heard of this before ?!
  8. 400cc atf. If the clutch pull is hard, then the clutch was done wrong. Neutral is hard to find when running.
  9. Reality is it is a terrible first bike. A `04-`05 sherco or beta 200 or 250 would be better. Plus side is once you conquer the 280 you will hate everything else! The only thing that will cross over is the location of the controls! Have fun, and don't give up as it is the most fun on two wheels!
  10. The scorers were too slack. And it did solve what they were after. The end of one man`s domination. Same as when the FIM came up with the all day dab. That was the `real` end of trials. History just repeating it self again. Wah!!!!!!!!!
  11. You might also have the flywheel weight on your bike which changes the power delivery quite a bit. The power on the 4rt is it`s strong point.

    Better Buy

You would be better off with the 2002. The frame and plastics changed quite a bit from the `99-2000 model. Unless you just are collecting the bultaco model.

    Exhaust Cleaning

If you are talking an all steel pipe, try this. Start at the exhaust inlet with a torch set, just a small amount of flame to get the pipe burning. Flame off and go to straight oxygen, just lightly. The pipe will slowly burn all the through the end. Just try to keep a slow burn going. You can see it`s progress. If pipe starts turning red, slow down with the air. It does produce a lot of smoke, but c.leans it out well. Others nearby will not be impressed.
  14. Vent tubes have to vent. Just cut a hole in the middle of the two!
  15. They should not be linked unless there is a breather hole!
  16. With the spring installed it should tighten with out all that work! Just pull the cap back off and fill.
  17. You could always go back to the 11t cs!
  18. I think he answered his own question in his first sentence.`and it has been v cold here in North Wales` Basically you would have to ride the bike very hard to get the fan to run in cold weather.
  19. Cope, I can still remember being 12 and had a flat tire. `You want to ride? The garage is full of tools.` Says my non-mechanical father. Figure it out!

  21. Mick`s still around. If you get a chance at a school or a vintage event, he is quite entertaining.http://www.mickandrews.net/plonker-to-mar-and-beyond.php
  22. At 16 you should do this no problem, have some faith in yourself! If after doing a wheelie with the clutch pulled in, and using the brakes don`t work you could pull it apart. You only need a 4 mm allen wrench and a 8mm socket/and or wrench to remove the clutch springs. Just lay the back on the left side on the ground against the handle bar. Make sure the gas is off and you are not leaking fluid. With the bike in this position you can check the clutch plates without draining the oil. Here`s a video to help. At 16 you are plenty old enough to work on your bike!!
  23. I usually ride around clutch pulled in, lots of brake, or a wheelie does it. Otherwise it is only a few minutes to pull the clutch plates out and clean them up.
  24. This video will show how small this gear box is to the old reliable transmission.
