Another thing that might help is a gearing change. I am now running 9/44, with the intent to use second as the all around first gear found on most modern bikes. This puts thrd exactly were 2nd was with stock gearing. So for you, you could shift to third and back down to second. No nuetral problems.

Put an AJP M/C on it Dan. Everybody should keep a spare old m/c around just for this instance. Changing to lighter springs could solve this also. Wish I could just tell you which springs, but I had a gas gas 160 motor laying around and used the clutch springs out of that cut to length. Lightest Beta clutch ever and still hooks up. Good luck.

Have you pulled the flywheel yet? The early Beta's would shear the flywheel key on a regular basis.

My son just got a 2018 300rr two weeks ago. The dealer had put a 120 and a 58 in it. It ran well, butmy son needed it to betterĺ, so I dropped it to a 52. In your case there isno reason not to try a 50. All bikes have there own personality.

Nice post Neb, are you feeling ok?
What year Sherco and what carb?
-
The clue would be even Arnoux is telling you a 45 is too lean down under.
-
Hopefully you did not get heavier fromt springs , as stock they work very good. The biggest thing on a trials bike is the front and rear need to work together.
-
Do a you tube search of Jim Snell gas gas video`s. The bike is pretty much basic two stroke, except the clutch pressure plate only goes back on one way. It is marked with a notch if my memory is right.
-
The bike works well, stock out of the box. You never said how big you are. The rear shock is fairly soft. You might crank it up two turns if you are 220 plus. Other wise the suspension needs to break in. One or two rides is not enough. The bikes works very well , so just enjoy riding it for awhile.

At 6500ft in the USA. 120 main 52 pilot. Chances are the pilot is too lean.
-
By the way you can order the seal for the jet tower from OKO carbs. Slightly larger and seals better. And yes when the passages are bad the ildle will search. Pull it apart.
-
Maybe a Shinko as they are a strange shaped tire. SR 241 series.
-
Mains and the rod bearing would make noise just running. Pinking it could be, but the fuel pump could just be going lean with an air leak. It is a crap system only found on the Sherco. (Unless you count snowmobiles.) i would use an auxillery fuel tank just to rule out that whole system.
-
The model tire you are talking about is as old as the Aprilia. But that is not the old days! I still have some brand new ones from the seventies!
-
Lack of fuel? It does have the fuel pump. Try it with the tank completely full. That helps sometimes.
-
That set up should work fine. I rode with Pirrelli`s on Aprillia`s quite a bit with 4 to 4 1/2 pounds and never had issues.
-
So what kind of tubeless rims are you running. I have never had a MT43 unseat.
-
Beta could just do a suspension upgrade and it would do wonders for the bike. I love my Beta, but my son just got a TRRS 300. Everything about his bike is better. Better power, suspension, brakes, clutch, and it balances way better. Looks to be a brand change in our family. Just as I was getting used to my new dealer.

ATF dexron III. Cheap and it works. Only been using it in my Beta`s since 1990.
-
You also need to pull the flywheel and check the iitegrity of the key itself. It could have sheard.
-
Now you also know the best place for parts for that cool bike.
-
It is in awesome shape, but the early `95 model actually had water cooled center cases. Which had a corrosion problem. You might be able to check by VIN number. Trials parts USA would be your best friend. I would find this out soon as it would be a shame for this bike to be a lemon. They had a kit that blocked the passages to the lower cases. Plus side is you have the later model fork seal holder. The earlier model had green dust seals, This to was an issue that year. They were a great bike for the year.

Install a new condenser. The body to the frame (So it is grounded) mount it by the coil under the tank. Just splice it into the black wire going to the coil. Sure beats pulling the flywheel off!
-
Not the first starting problem. We had a sponsored rider at our National that took him forever to get the bike started at a section. He has been riding Vertigo since they came out and previously he rode Ossa. Personally they can take FI bikes and crush them all including Honda`s. Not worth the time or hassle. Trials bikes were meant to be a simple machine. Besides this problem the Vertigo power is impressive.
