Still have the plastic disc guard on? Seems like I remember the caliper bolts could do some damage if the guard washers were gone. It made the mounting bolts too long.
Most ridets run the 10 42. A 9 would really kill the top end. My son is thinking of going back to the 11 , the jump to second is hurting him in the steep stuff.
Less than a quart is cheap. 3 oil changes and the 4th becomes free. (750cc) The Beta filters are expensive, but I buy them by the bulk. I think they are the same as an RMZ 250.
That`s like the poor mans Rekluse. Yes it will be lighter and yes your clutch will slip. Find a good parts guy and get 6 lighter springs. What I did was take Gas Gas 160 springs and cut them down to proper length. I did this for two reasons. I had a gas gas engine laying on the floor and last Christmas holiday I cut off the tendon in half of my clutch finger.
Well most people that work on bikes would think it was a fair statement with all the things that have gone wrong. Just the amount of problems the shift shaft alone has caused comeplete tear downs.
On the other hand if I had said that gasser stators held up better than Beta stators do 19 to 1 you would have smiled.
PJW123, sounds like you should have bought the standard. More performance is the why to buy the factory. Either pipe works fine and you could get the full exhaust from arrow. My son just loves the power of his.
Not everyone adapts to trials riding the same. Modern bikes are all about clutch control. If you do not have it you are in for some exciting rides. It seems previous riding experience does little compared to athletic ability. Some take to it rigjt away and others struggle for years to get just a little better than when they started.Good luck and always make it fun.
My son did that his first trials with one on. And he is tall and thin. Just had to reposition the mounting. It does take some thinking and it does give a false sense of security on nasy sections.
Sunday at the US GP I laughed at all the stomping and blowing on rocks. Out of 17 GP riders I gave out 27 fives for 34 attempts. I had only 5 riders get through my section. Lots of crashing going on. I thought the riders handled it exactly as I would have. All celebration when they made it and p****d off when they crashed. And a Vertigo did make it up once all weekend. Fajrado did get a one on his fourth ride.
Yes, my son actually rides a Beta 300 4T. When he was ten years old he was over 5 foot and growing fast. I made my own peg mounts and used tall ATV bars. We sold his bike and soon the new owner realized an adult could actually ride that TY 80. We now have around 10 guys riding the TY80 class just for fun.
I saw a rider in the GP class with back protection. He had a terrible crash in the section I was scoring at Kingman. Too bad the foot peg hit his kidneys two inches away from his protector. I was relieved when he got up and walked out of the section.
PS I have become more comfortable with the wrist strap. It has saved my bike once in the six months of use. It also has caused me to almost crash in 6th gear twice while attempting to scratch my nose.
