  1. It's probably not complaint's but the amount of days per year the land owner is allowed to use the land for other purposes, yes someone could inform the local council and bring the amount of days used to their attention, or it could be the council themselves doing their own policing. To use the land for the sole purpose of motor sports requires planning permission, this defra move sure was a shrewd move by the government to further restrict land owners to what they can and can't do with their own property. I can't see any change at all in the ruling, as this would open the door for all sorts of complaint's, they dangled a $ carrot in front of the land owner, and I would think most took it, kind of foolish not to, now their hands are tied, the small print and wording probably didn't help them understand the full pro and cons of what they were letting themselves in for, but even then, trials practice and event's is not going to match what the Government is offering, at best it looks bleak. Is trials classed as recreation, is hiking classed as recreation ? if so how many day's per year are hikers allowed to hike through the farmers land? could it be some forms of recreation are discriminated against more than others, I think it will be some form of lawyer talk bit like the race card that may save the day, but don't see the "well we rode there for 50 years without any complaint" cutting it. They pulled a fast one and I bet they are right proud of it, job's knackered.

  4. I agree Gizza, so why do club's think they need to follow suit, why can't the club state in the supplementary regs, that minders and outside assistance will not be tolerated. The top teams and riders in the world are concerned only about what is best for them and the team, and will do what it takes to try and get that bit of an advantage over the other team. It isn't that same game, so why try to keep up with the world championship scene. I always thought the best thing about the club and club trials, was the sensible like minded folk who had a good perspective and social closeness that isn't found in other forms of motor sport. World champions come and go, but there are faces out on the hill every weekend that were giving to the sport of trials from the first trial I ever rode, and are still giving now, the club lad/lass who drift into trials for the easy going fun factor seem to end up staying around a long time, while in for the quick fix, it should be done like this type don't seem to be around for very long at all. The number of riders who can contest at world level has changed dramatically over the past 30 years as the events and what the rider can do has got more spectacular, but the spectator and outside support for the sport has declined, why?.

    Too Hard?

My opinion, Monday, Tue, Wed, too hard, weather partly to blame for Monday, instead of the normal steady first day, it was tough and the deep water didn't help, this took the edge off the so called club rider, and tough sections on Tue, and Wed, finished them off, Thur, Fri, Sat, seemed very close to previous years. A rider of my ability for the most part is going to five the sections that are set out to take points off the top riders, that is a given! and all part of the event, the killer is when they are double sub's, I did notice when the sections were a little shorter and single sub's I rode better due to the fact I could get my wind back before each ride. My final result for the week was about 45 point's over last years final result, not a great difference 7.5 dab's extra per day, but! I noticed good center riders were finding it a bit harder too, with daily scores up a bit from previous rides. It has always been a struggle to both get round in time and have a steady ride, that is the whole concept of the SSDT, we must keep in mind that the sections used are the same ones that are always used with the odd new one, it did look to me that some point since the 06 event a lot of water had gone down some of the burns and washed out some tasty big holes, that made the sections more difficult to ride, even though they were flagged same as the previous year. Hard to get it spot-on, but if tough sections are needed to sort the top riders and a winner, I would make the sections used for that purpose even harder, and ease up more on a few others so the club rider can record a few more cleans. I'm glad to have completed the event, and at my age, don't expect my results to improve from prior years, was the event too hard ? I saw Wriggy, Drac, and Bobble struggling more than I have done in the past, so I think it was plenty tough enough, and eased a little would be enjoyed more by a rider of my ability. That said, thank's another great trial, I just don't know how you can do it year after year, I did notice a few sections missing out on the moor this year, probably due to the fact not enough people available to get out to those remote locations, might be time for me to start looking at that option.
  13. I feel sorry for Geoff, the final results tell nothing of the true story, but by the end of the week he was starting to get the hang of it, I hope he goes back and has another few rides, I know he could secure a top twenty or better. In answer to the question, No!! his result was not a true representation of his ability.
  14. Shouldn't bother us. even if k likes detours
  15. Just had to post this quote from the local web site. "During periods of bad weather in the Ben Nevis area, you may only see a grey picture. Don't worry - this is genuine Scotch Mist and is a natural phenomena." And all this time I thought it wer Kinell's Beta steaming up the Ben.

I'll have to reply later, takes me a while to get going.
  22. Looks like a very good spectator attendance, and the sections took points off em all. Not bad for a first world round. http://www.phototrial.it/2007/2007wc/guate2.html

1.5 inch back from the front mounting hole, I cut a 3.5 x 3.5 inch hole, you can stuff a tube in and a tyre lever, then I make a flap that just tucks in and covers the hole.

    Ssdt Advice

That's the whole Idea of riding the Mont Gizza, if I wanted to carry a tool shed round with me, I would have rode a different bike Look at Carlos, only thing he has carried round with him in 17 years or so, is a smile, I found the more I carried the more I hurt, last year I carried nothing but a few things inside the seat, without a doubt! it had the least toll on my old bones of any previous year I had ridden. I'm down to being able to repair a puncture and remove the spark plug, because the amount of things that could go wrong if !!!! you would need a tow hitch to pull the tool box round. I agree you have to do what works best for yourself, main thing for me is how can I enjoy it the most.
