Appears to be same part number!
-
Yea, and he will support you when you get old!
Top lads, both of them, Pat always seems to have a better second day than the first!!!. Best of luck to them both.
Them up and coming kids are duking it out!
-
You should be able to pick up a proper OKO 26(Kiehin copy) there for a song. With a bit of setting, they work well.
-
Dear Jenny,
It seems rather obvious that you have not yet fully recovered from the head injury, might be classified as friggin nuts! Yet at the same time I say that, I have often found myself wanting to do the same thing to one of those bikes.
In a way, I think it a bit of a shame that nothing like that is available nowadays. Basic, functional, trail and trial. Yes, it could be improved upon a bit perhaps, but it seems the "fun"damentals are there.
On the flip side of things, I would also like something similar to a Dakar bike, but have not found it. Same principals, Low, comfortable, simple, air cooled , light, reliable. My little Serow does the trick about town, yet not good on the high speed roads.
We should stuff a few pigs, together!
-
I think you are correct in your first statement, as that is how they achieve a true 199 or so cc out of the 200 bike, same bottom as 250, at least that was true for Techno. They did a kit at one time for this, yet due to bore sizes and different squish bands and combustion chamber dimensions I would think the 200 head different, I doubt the 250 head would work properly on a 200 top, although it may run. Call Ron Commo?

Donot allow the alcohol indused fuels in the old glass tanks! Source race fuel or avgas, of noa alc farm fuel for race bikes. Good luck on the beemer.
The alc is inert up to the stage where is has reached its absorbancy level and will condense with the water and separate as stated. Nasty stuff!

All plugs come from factory in a generic preset gap which may not apply to your application(ie trials bike). They may be abused in shipment ahd handling, and the gap should always be checked.
Even the platinum plugs can be adjusted easily, just don't pry on the center electrode. Just tap on the outer (large electrode) lightly till gap is achieved, which is generally accepted at 0.6mm on these bikes( or as Dabster suggested at .025 in., and still contrary to the last(old) factory spec I seen at .020(0.5mm)they work fine. Same for the standard plug, platinum or irridium resistor. Pick your own poison in the cost, but if you got a fine plug ang do not take care of it I doubt you will find your money's worth cause you fouled it!
-
The alcohol used in our fuels at about a 10% rate will deteriorate standard polyester fiberglass resin. Leaching polymers which wind up in carbs and engines. The fact it happened so quickly may be due to the fact the product was new and had not cured for ages, as it seems many report good results using the Caswells sealer in old succeptable tanks.
Ethyl alcohol is the cleanup liquid for poly resin, cuts it like a knife!
You need Avgas or race fuel to avoid the alcohol totally it seems, although there is a website that lists places where you can still get non-laced auto/ farm fuel, in rural areas.
Them guys making tanks need to go to a modern epoxy resin and get off the old standard poly stuff in this world for sure!

Is your work mate male or female? I cannae get the wifey to hold anything tire related!

Bashplate musta been badly bent as I can fun the finger under mine no prob, never heard other accounts of this really.
Have cracked a cover on the rocks toward the side impact.
That skidplate is supposed to be ergal 7075 and good luck with the weld, hope it holds, as that stuff is tempramental at best.

This is where Andy can do his testing whilst on the throne! He can post up a silly question, log back in later in his bi-polar alter ego screen name, answer his own bloody silly question and test the swear filter for new words picked up during the week.
He is a busy lad it seems, yet it keeps him out of trouble!
-
If you can still get them there, the BP5EVX platinum plug (non resistor) is the way to go it seems to me. Mine has been in the bike since '07 without issue.
As far as plug maintenance, I think it important to get some heat in the motor on most all outings, and a good run through the gears and some high revs to keep things burnt off and cleaned out for both the sake of the plug and the muff system. Found no need for greater than 80:1 ratio of good oil(that fouls plugs) and many putters and punters could go leaner than that.
We might call this the low colesteral plug diet, with reduced intake and regular exercise!
-
You guys are funny! Trust me, it gets a lot worse when you do this kinda stuff for a living. Yet at the same time, after being snakebit enough times, one starts to realize what those snakes look like!
You outta try out some of these low profile car tires on the big rims nowadays!!!!! Holy Jesus, what a ball buster! And then if you toutch the rim the dick that owns it wants you to buy him a new one. Of course, they want it done for nothing.
Needless to say, I am selective, and some are told to go elsewhere to those that charge big money with specialized equipment to do them. $40-50 per tire is not uncommon, what I hear. They can have it and the drivers to go with it!
Lot of pricks!
-
Any lads on the new Scorpa/ Sherco. I figure it to be the mutts nuts!
-
HolyJesus, I oft wondered about that! Keep it up, matey!
-
Lok at it this way, still about the same as a top job with fresh chrome, even with new bearings and seals. Surely you figured in some when you bought it?
-
Many Many moons have passed since I was on anything with a Bing or Amal, yet these things did work at the time.
The Japs really took things to a new level with the Mikuni and the Kiehin, just better fuel metering devices. More sensitive as well.
The Dellorto PHBL works good in 26mm version for a standard fitment for many bikes, not finicky, it just works , and may be the modern option for old bikes, yet as mentioned, the OKO is now available(Kiehin copy) on the cheap and in 24,26,28, sizes to accomodate different displacements of motor, and taste. Jetting varies due to displacement, but these things do work well with a bit of polish!
-
Good write-up 40!
I think one thing I might add would be still yet a constant vigil on the bars, with arms mostly straight to back them up, as there are some odd transitions at the bottoms many times that will literally yank the bars out your hands and tuck under due to the downhill induceed negative rake angle of the fork in that downhill attitude.
Once again, quickly puts you on your head!
-
Welcome!
You might do well to get this up on the Beta threads and get more replies. Need to know your jet sizes as well. There are some other mods as I understand that involve some drilling and such. Might ring Lampkins on that?
Cheers,
-
The PJ1 should be fine. No such thing as cheap plastics
-
For the most part here, we use Maxima 75 ,
Your mileage may vary. In finding a really good action in it all, I cannot deny the Dan Williams polishing mods as posted in the Beta threads have good results on the Sherco as well. The systems are very similar and seem to share the same friction plates.
A lot of this is a bit to taste as well, as I have used ATF in the past, yet the thinner oil does seem to yield a bit snappier clutch that some may prefer, and others not.
Being an odd oldie, mine is just set different with the Dan mods done, 2 springs out for the featherlite lever, and the Merc synthetic ATF. No cold stick for over a year now, good progression for anything I want, yet still a good Pop when needed, and without slip. Mind you none of this for the high level riders, as they will push it too hard probabably and slip the thing till toast on the plates. Gear selection superb, as little drag, yet still use proper style.
Pick your own poison here!
-
I started to put up something the other day, till the puter crashed, yet for example, the main landing gear ali axles have been epoxy bonded to the tube gear legs on my Cessna since '76 without issue. They do have a security through bolt, but never seen one fail at the junction.
God only knows what they are using on these, but hopefully it holds for its intended purpose. Still yet sure someone finds a way to break something here, yet maybe the tube rather than the joint. Time will tell.
-
Are a bit pricey! Just how bad is yours, and what did you do to need one?
-
330ml per leg of 5W fork oil. I only know of outer dust seals through sherco and pricy.
