This does not really happen nowadaws, reguardless of brand. If you bash any of the steel framed bikes hard, they will bend. The normal material is 4130 tubing, or a slight derivitive, which can easily be welded without problem, yet is only a mild steel in itself, and works well as it has desireable attributes in other aspects of stress and such. I can tell the bike in the pic came down hard on the bars. Full inpact probably, from just how high? Do not know. Was it enough to take out the fatbars as well? Possibly so.

Those options cost more!

Actually I thought all this quite entertaining. I hate that Doug lost out because of all this, yet still, hindsight is ALWAYS 20-20 unfortunatly. You see, many times there are no real patterns to this kinda stuff. Experience does come into play, yet will not neccessarily be your saving grace. I always kind of relate it all to starting at the Head, or the Ass! Eventually you will work your way through, either way. Sometimes the probabilities can outweigh the process, and you will be fooled. All part of it! No ones fault, just happens. Now personally, I am both lazy and cheap, so the process usually goes something along the lines of Plug, Wires, Coil/CDI, then Stator as a last resort. This does seem the most logical and economical process, specially if you have a mate with a good CDI/coil that you can try, cost nil. In the heat of battle, things can change. Go with your Gut, win or loose! Sometimes you get lucky, others you do not. And no, I do not keep a spare on hand of either, cause they never fail you know, and cost too much!

I have not seen one hit hard enough to damage a tube, but I think you may have the right idea. If you are referring to using stainless steel tube, it can be a bit soft, but better than nothing.

Personally, I tend to stay away from the pink and orange long life coolants in the bike. Some of that stuff has nasty residues. I do not neccessarily think the corrosion resistance is better, just lasts longer, but not an issue in the bike as I drain mine annually. One thing for sure, don't mix them! And use distilled water when mixing your batch as it in itself helps things get along nicely.

We have run 80:1 in the bikes for a decade now, and including Pro level top riders, and without issue. Fact is that those that just simply putt putt about most the time can easily run as high as 100:1 ratio. A lot of oil accumulates in the motors and exhaust and you still need to take them out for a good hard run in high gear or do a couple good hillclimbs to really get things flowing and some heat in the muff. May smoke like crazy if it is loaded up, but keeps things cleaned out this way. A clogged muff on a Sherco is an expensive replacement!
