  1. I looked into getting the original Betors on my M49 rebuilt. From Hugh's it was about the same cost as buying new Betors. If I was going for originality it wouldn't have been a question. Some original Betors can be rebuilt, although parts may be getting scarce. If they have them, Hugh's would be the place to go for kits. Some of the old Betors can't be rebuilt.
  2. One of my Betors won't hold gas any more. I'd go for the Falcons because I believe they are rebuildable. Is that correct?
  3. I've already kicked the crap out of one too many bikes. If it hasn't started by the 5th kick, I'm going to find out why. If you suspect the carb, take it off, clean it and make sure it's to spec. I was working on my cousin's bike and when I took the carb apart the floats were upside down (Mikuni). Needless to say, the bike started a little easier after than. Unless you bought the bike new, there is no saying what a previous owner has done.
  4. What is the correct plug for your application?
  5. A fouling plug may also indicate the wrong spark plug. Triple check to see that you have the exact one as specified. That being said, it could be a number of factors. If it were me I'd go down the list to see what isn't correct and address each one. Sparking means you're getting the electricity to the right places, now (as mentioned) it's about getting it to spark when it's suppose to.

    Taller Bars?

What makes you think that you need taller bars? Have you had someone tell you that?
  7. My dad picked up a 123 recently. The frame is white. The paint is pretty rough but I can't vouch for the originality. Putting the bigger wheels and even forks from the 247 seems like it would be the way to go, at least for competition. The bike is very twitchy with the bigger wheels/tires. I have heard the shifter is the weak link on these bikes.
  8. Mk 6 125 Bike is way better than I'll ever be (but then I can say that about any bike). I'm almost wondering if I should have gone to a 250 as it would have had more torque as I tiptoe around the track. If I ever finish my 650 Tri Scrambler I doubt a lack of torque will be my problem.
  9. I rode my first MX/Scrambles last year. And that was just after a year or two of vintage trials. I just try to stay out of people's way, stay upright and get experience. If you've been riding longer than I have (which isn't difficult to accomplish) you'll do fine. Unlike in trials, when you fall down in MX you might get run over. Do what I do, stay at the back of the pack. btw, it is a lot of fun.
  10. UTTER NONSENSE - WHAT PLANET DO YOU LIVE ON ? My guess is Planet Yamaha.
  11. Far, far more restrained than what I would have said.
  12. I hate to tell you but you need sharper drills...
  13. If you look in the pictures he has the engine as far back as he can. The gearbox sprocket can't get any closer to the swingarm pivot. I doubt he's building this to be the ultimate trials bike, so exceeding the performance standard of the original Sherco is not on the table.
  14. I'm afraid to ask how much all that iron added to the weight of the bike. I've seen people who have taken aluminum snow shovels and made bash plates, but never chunks of steel.
  15. My eyes are scarred from that horrible red type. All caps too. Does no one have any shame anymore? I doubt anyone looking at a CCM Trials Bike needs the extra emphasis.
  16. You mean you can't see the four pictures in the post above you #16? Aside from the cool green bike you might be missing the obscenely tight jeans.
  17. I was in the same position when I started riding a couple years ago. The initial investment in a sport/hobby that you hoped you'd like can be daunting. I went with ATV style boots. A heeled sole but still plenty of protection. More flexible than MX boots. Still not ideal for walking long distances. And very reasonably priced (I think mine were less than US$100) compared to true trials boots. I also use them for vintage MX racing so I'm getting dual purpose from them, so I don't regret the initial investment. With all that said, I'd love dearly to get some trials boots now. So if you think you're going to be into trials for a long time, think about investing in the proper boots. Trials is all about contact points, which is where you want to spend your money. Tires, boots, footpegs, and grips. Anywhere that rider touches the bike and the bike touches the ground.
  18. All of you kidding aside, you'll probably want to focus on getting the TY in top shape before worrying about a few hundred grams here or there.
  19. I love the NGK site for finding the the right sparkplug. Aprilla Spark Plugs And get the exact part, not "something close" as one little letter can make a world of difference.
