Why I'm considering not going to Trials Comps.
Interesting, I have been riding trials for several decades, and have never seen anyone ace trials on their first attempt. I have seen riders with obvious ability , and those with cycle trials experience improve very quickly, but even so it generally takes years, not hours. Any videos of the rider you mention ?

Ethanol free petrol or lowest ethanol content petrol
I've been using tescos finest e10, 50:1 with octane booster in an 1985 rotax with no issues. It does have a modern ignition and newish carb, and runs very well. What problems are you having with modern petrol ?

I'm over biked. Older twin shock?
Compared to discs, drums are generally poor, but, usually more than adequate. They do take more maintenance to work at their best. Twin shocks are slightly heavier, but way more fun, IMO. Costa Brava twin shock trial is next weekend, with several hundred entries, worth considering what the appeal is 😎

Trials modern tires
IRC front is very good too. (whatever you put on, you will notice a massive impoverishment over old dunlops) As above, tube type IRC rear works well at 5.5 psi.

Modern helmet with visor
I'm on my second Hebo with built in visor, essential in my opinion. Instantly available for branches, flying stones on tracks driving rain etc

Seized engine - non permanent. Maybe cylinder glaze/varnish?
All the complexity of water cooling, then it runs at too low a temperature 😂😂😂😂

Old new guy
Agreed, defiantly no gears or clutches in an automatic transmission 😂😂😂😂😂
-
Swm Rebuild Manual ?
Does it shift easily with the engine off ? If so, probably just clutch drag. What oil are you using, atf improves the smaller rotax's, plus a bit of technique 😁

Throttle tube question....
Peel the grip back and check what colour the tube is. Black slow, white fast action

New rider
Defiantly join a local club, Cumberland County would be worth considering, lots of knowledgeable helpful people. Cycle trials skills seem to transfer pretty easily, so should give you a head start in your (evolutionary 😁) process.

10w-40 Semi Vs Synthetic Oil
Whilst some manual gearboxes do use transmission fluids in place of gear oil, the same cannot be said for putting gear oil into an automatic transmission. Gear oil is much too viscous for these systems and will cause clogging between components. Interesting read 👍
