Get a mountainbike, drop the saddle all the way down (or take out the seat post altogether) and ride it round your garden or basement and practice balancing and hop the front & rear wheels. Of course the best way to get better at trials is to ride as much as you can but a cycle is the next best thing.

Yet another high profile electrical failure for Dougies bike. I'm no expert, & there probably are other factors involved, but SURELY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS Beta (and sherco) must be able to sort this stator problem. (assuming it is the stator) What is it now.........7 or 8 years of problematic stators on betas? John Lampkin must be furious with the factory for allowing this brand-damaging problem to continue. Please can someone shed some light on why this isn't sorted on what otherwise seems a first class machine? This is an honest question and not a slanging match against Beta.

Welcome to trials central! Good solid bike, the sherco 290, just make sure you strip/grease the suspension linkage regularly and watch out for loss of spark caused by a dodgy stator. Enjoy it!

Probably reduce the rebound damping if possible, but hopping is all about the technique really.

Just to add another opinion, i have run 60:1 full synthetic for 15 years in my SWM and again, have had no problems. The engine being very clean internally with minimal smoking.

Over the years i've seen a lot of argueing over scores, it's a lot worse when punch cards are used as the rider can immediately see what his score is. The better the rider, the more vocal the protest! Big John, your observer friend was being questioned by Tommi's brother but not aggressively, i remember it very well indeed, a few of the spectators and our group were discussing it afterwards and although Mr Ahvala shouldn't have been trying to question the score, everyone in our group said the observer was "a bit keen to get physical"

Philippe Berlatier as i recall. Also i was there at the world round in Scotland sometime in the 90's when an aggressive OBSERVER started a fight with Tommi Ahvala's brother by throwing the first punch!

Looking at the todo trial classic site, and also in the video on zona trial, i notice one of the top twinshock riders is using an aprilia TXR mono converted to twinshock. I know its a mono because theres a few subtle differences from the t-shock frame and i have owned both models. Are the spanish now allowing converted mono's or is he pulling a cheeky one?

What problems are you having with the tyre?

Thought it might be the stator, same thing happened on mine. Interestingly it wasn't actually the coil needing rewinding, it was the hall sensor, a part which probably costs next to nothing to buy direct from an electronics retailer but is very difficult to change because of the way it is cast in to its housing.

Splat shop Chris is very helpful with anything Sherco.

I would remove the bash-plate as mud collects in this area and needs to be cleaned out properly with the cases being magnesium and prone to rotting down there.

Practice like crazy until you beat him, then tell him how great skodas are.
