  1. If it was from the breather on the left, by the front sprocket then it would probably be Gearbox oil which has escaped. The likely cause would be that there is too much oil in there. The oil should be roughly half way up the sight glass on the clutch case (kick start side) or about 400ml (ish). There doesn't seem to be a definate amount but while filling the gearbox then oil half way up the glass is about right and you can't really go wrong. Hope that helps?

    New Ossa Video

I was thinking that! The USD forks obviously didn't work, Certainly not the future! Is it just me or is there no sound to that video? Shame, would be nice to hear what that engine sounds like. Looks like Colomer has got it working pretty well so far. Be great to see it in a proper trial and see how it goes.
  3. Speaking of loosing the dealership...here on the Isle of Man the Honda dealerships have merged so that the cars, bikes, lawn mowers etc are under one roof and not spread out. I believe this came about as a Honda UK decision (or higher). I believe it was UK wide, not just for the Isle of Man. This would be the most likely outcome as to why Sandifords lost the dealership and subsequently enough custom to keep going as a business. I know that they became a Gas Gas dealer (for a very short time) but it obviously wasn't enough and from whats been said here already, Sandifords have been in trouble for a while. As for the bikes, i've never been a fan of the Montesa's. I just don't like the look of them and the feel of them when riding one. Also the price is a big factor in not getting one. I know that 4 strokes are extremely reliable and probably worth the money but, i just don't see the need for that price. Surely if they were priced closer to that of Gas Gas, Sherco, Beta etc they would sell a lot more. To the best of my knowledge there are only atleast a handful of 4rt's on the Island. The bikes to have are GG's or the Beat Evo.
  4. Sorry about the boat prices boys, nothing we can do about that unfortunately! Wish we could! The Steam Packet like to rob everyone! You will thoroughly enjoy it Marky, you'll get the bug and be back year upon year. You will get to see a lot of island in a different way to most poeple who visit. The tracks and mooar crossings are brilliant fun and the trial has an excellent social side to it. Beer, bikes and fantastic views, can't beat it. It's always good to see newcomers and returnees every year. See you all in August!
  5. As I stated above in the original post regarding the Reciprocal Health Agreement between the Isle of Man and the UK ending at the end of March, i can now confirm that this WILL NOT go ahead as the UK Government have made a u-turn (sound familiar!?) and have extended the existing agreement for a further 6 months. You will therefore not require a travel insurance policy for the trial or any other visit to the Isle of Man for the next 6 months but, i would still advise it. You never know what the government will do between now and then. Yearly policies are quite cheap (from about
  6. Entries are filling up fast! Get yours in ASAP if you want a ride!
  7. Entries for the 2010 Manx 2 Day Trial open tomorrow, Friday 12th March. For those of you who rode in last years event, you should be recieving your entry form and supplementary regulations in the post. For those of you who haven't yet had the opportunity to ride this fantastic event, entry forms will be available for download from our website tomorrow morning. If you do not have access to the internet then you can phone the entries secretary, Tony Temple, on 01624 852842 providing your address and which route you wish to ride, National, Clubman or Sidecar. Entries WILL close Friday 16th April or when full. The solo class is always extremely popular and it is on a first come first serve basis so be sure to send your entries in ASAP to avoid disappointment. The sidecar class is always popular and is starting to have a bit of international flavour. As some of you may or may not have heard the UK Government is pulling out of the Repricol Health Agreement with the Isle of Man from 1st April. This will mean that if you are unfortunately injured while on the Island and need medical treatment, you will not be covered unless you have appropriate insurance in place which will cover any treatment costs and repatriation to the UK via air ambulance if it is necessary. For further information, please visit our website. Please do not let this latest development put you off and we hope to see you in August.
  8. I have not modified my 07 300. Not Even though about a flywheel weight. It is exactly the same as when i picked it up from the shop! I just learnt how to ride it. I am certainly no expert rider, just a clubman. The power is so smooth at the bottom of the rev range and it is there when and if you need it. When you learn how to introduce the power in a smooth and controlled manner, the bike will do it's thing. Give it too much and it will just spin. Personally i would try to ride it first before putting a flywheel weight. No point in wasting money on it if you don't have to. chorleytrialsclub: I think you have a point, if you are going to put a flywheel weight on why not just get a smaller engine instead. I've had the same view before. I hear the 280's are just as good as a 300 now (less the 20cc of course).
  9. Sounds like it needs a new rim tape! Take the tyre off, remove the rim tape and give it a really good clean. Get some silicone and put a dab on the end of each spoke (inside the wheel, under where the rim tape would be) let it set then put a new rim tape on, replace the tyre and you shouldn't have any problems after that. Had to do this with my wheel, the air would escape through the spokes within half an hour! Has worked a treat and stays up permanently now!
  10. 10am for sure. Most club trials here on the Isle of Man start at 10. It is a respectable time to start any club trial. I'm usually finished by lunch time, get myself home, wash the bike and usually done by 3pm. All done and dusted in one day, no need to leave it until the next day, or the next day or the next day!! I can understand later starting times over in the UK for people who live a couple of hours away and i think if i lived accross the water i'd want a later start time, time to get up and get to the venue.
  11. Yep, Marseille tonight on Eurosport 2 at 23.15 and again tomorrow night at 18.30.
  12. it broke after landing upside down after a crash. Oops!
  13. I discovered the other day that the top mounting bracket on my rear brake master cylinder has broken clean off, which was annoying! Luckily there are many trials coming up anytime soon so it's not a huge problem! Do you think it can be welded back on or is it not worth the hassle of it potentially breaking again and again, in which case a brand spanker would be better. Personally, I think a new one would be better in the long run but, if it can be welded and guarenteed that it won't break again i might go for that. Anyone know how much a new one is? Cheers
  14. Got a pair of the Gaernes for xmas, in red!! Went out on monday and i must say i am impressed with them. oh so comfy. I will have to get out a bit more during the winter to see how the hold up but, so far i like them alot!
  15. same with mine, think it's something to do with eurosport 2. i've noticed it on other sports on that channel.
  16. I have an 07 300 and couldn't be more happy with it! I haven't got a flywheel weight and modified in anyway, apart from the 11 tooth front sprocket. It's so nice on the power, extremely tractable on the bottom end and when you need or want more power it's there! I had a 250 before that and liked it but just needed that extra poke. I'm definately not an expert rider, a competent clubman i'd say. i've heard the same about the 280's, very snappy, like an on/off switch. If i'm honest i haven't ridden one but, if i had the choice of a 250 or a 300, it'd be a 300. Although, the latest review of the 2010 GG's in TMX a few weeks ago suggested that the 280's have been improved and much easier to control and ride in sections. Would like to have a go on one but i think i'll be sticking to a 300. Cubby, that bike was only pulling your arms off because it was a factory Colley bike!!!
  17. Sounds powerful. If it is the standard bike with no mods then it should be a strong engine. I do like it when he's asked to "do a flick turn?!" and he just does it! Oh the envy!
  18. I learnt a little trick from the guys at Gas Gas in the USA! GG-USA Video 7 - the clutch! Loosen the screw a couple of turns so it's protruding from the KS, swing the KS out to the start position and it should push against the screw holding it on and hopefully lever itself off the shaft. Brilliant and works every time!
  19. take a look at www.manxtrials.com. They are the organising club for the Classic 2 day.
  20. On my bike the engine number (well, i presume it is) is located on the main block under where the front pipe leaves the barrell. Could be as good a place as any to start!?
  21. I'm the same as Baldilocks, apart from i have a (2007) 300. I tried the 10 tooth front sprocket from when i got the bike new but was in second most of the time, so i changed it to 11 and i am always in first. It's amazing what difference it makes in the sections. Now when i hook second for a section it feels as though it's got so much more power! I run 42 on the back. Would recommend 11-42.
  22. I've had the same problem, as many other people i know have. Whip the tyre and rim tape off and put a splodge of silicone on the inside of each spoke. Put a new rim tape on, replace the tyre and pump her up. Has worked a treat on mine. Stan's no tube is great stuff but expensive!!!
  23. Nikwax is brilliant stuff. I use it on my boots. It waterproofs them and keeps them from going solid. WD40 is also good to get old hard boots to soften up!!
  24. The 125's and 250's didn't get banned from the mountain course. It was more of a case that there wasn't enough people entering to warrant a race being held, so they decided to pull the plug. It was the same with the 400cc class at the TT. There are however the odd few modern 2 strokes doing the MGP, along with the classic, burning that lovely Castrol R! There is a strong 2 stroke grid on the Billown circuit for the Southern 100, the 'TT' races and the steam packet races. The downturn in the 2 strokes on the road were mostly because the manufacturers had stopped making road going versions and due to that, spare parts became hard to come by. Anyway, less of the road racing...I think it's good to drop the age in trials. Starting them young will hopefully get some british world champions in the furture. Having the rules saying that they have to be on an electric powered bike (OSET) i'm not sure about. If that wasn't the rule then i can only see Gas Gas making anything from it as they make a 50cc trials bike and to my knowledge, noone else does? I know Sherco had done one in the past but, do they still make them? The electric bikes are fantastic little things and a perfect place for the future of our sport to learn their craft. They will be cost effective too, nice and cheap to buy and extremely cheap to maintain. You only have to clean the bike, oil the chain and charge the battery (amoungst other things)!
