hi guys can any one help with my problem, I split the engine on my ty 80 to have main bearing and seals etc, but when it came to put it together the main gear sprocket locks up, but only as I tighten the engine casing screws, if I loosen them it's free but just that miner tightening of it locks back up again, it will go round but with alot of force, what could this be? Many thanks paul

Hello, to all. After 30+ years of mx just got my first trials bike. '85 TY350 and hoping I could get some help/advice. Rode it around in backyard today and wow, felt like fish out of water, but this is going to be fun. Any drills you could recommend to help ? Also as I run Maxima 927 @ 40:1 with 50/50 race/pump gas mix in my vintage race bikes ( '77 Montesa VB360 and '80 YZ465 ) will this work for the TY ? Sure I'll have many more questions, thanks for your help in advance

Does anyone know if the tyz250/Scorpa engine shares parts with any of Yamaha's non-trials models? I am specifically looking for clutch plates. I am hoping I can find those parts at the local Yamaha dealer (USA), where my sister works. Thanks for your help.

Evenin all. I noticed some posts re TY 250 clutch heaviness. I recently bought a 78 TY250 D (The Majesty replica recently pictured) and found the clutch action to be heavy. After a full primary side stripdown all I found were worn friction plates and slight notching of both hub and basket. I spoke to John Cane at Trail and Trials and he recomended new friction plates and standard (lightweight) Yam springs, as the pattern springs are heavier gauge wire and thus higher poundage. So new friction plates, new cable, notches from hub and basket removed, clutch and gearbox running in ATF, there is a definite improvment. I also noticed that the clutch arm has been lengthe…

Hi there. There is a frame on e bay ref 180504564531. I am intrigued as to whether it is a home made effort or something better. It's definately started off life as a ty175. It looks like it's got adjustable rear shock positions which would have to be bolted as there don't appear to be any shock mounts. Interesting. Any ideas ?

Well............ 3 days gone and second post for help on the TY80 Rebuild ! On the left hand side crankcases (flywheel side) below the carb there is a 14mm threaded hole which goes into the crankcases. On the bike I have, there is a plastic threaded piece with a small hose attached screwed into the hole ? On looking at the Haynes Manual, I'm sure the hole is for the 'indent plunger' which runs on the selector mechanism ? Any ideas why mine is as it is ? Apologies for no photographs - hopefully the TY80 gurus out there can figure out what I mean and advise ! cheers John Ps - my estimate by the end of the rebuild will be 20+ posts........and there's no way I can move …

Hey all, Just started a long overdue restore on my TY175 in Australia. The engine will be rebored with a Wossner piston. Is there any differences between the model 525 barrel and the 1N4 barrel? I have a spare 1N4 barrel that will take a 1st oversize rebore better than the 525. thanks for any help! Mark G

Got a 1991 TY250r pinky and i am having trouble selecting gears, 1st to 2nd is the worst, 2nd to 3rd isn't quite as bad then it gets better as you go up the gears 5th to 6th is brilliant. I rang Birkitt and he says it will be behind the clutch. I have had that to bits and all looks perfect. Anyone got any ideas what it could be?

What does ti take to remove the oil pump? Can you just remove the outer cover, pull the pump and install a block off plate? Or do you need to remove the inner cover and pull more parts? Would that mean you need to have an inner cover gasket before starting?
