I know some bikes are OK and some aren`t on premix. My old T500 had to use the autolube as the oil was fired directly onto bearings. Is premix ok on a TY80?

Hi, i have recently purchased a ty250 with gold rims and white subframe with red fork sleeves.....from photos it looks like an 88 but the frame plate indicates probably an 85. frame plate 59N 001661. I suppose that the frame may have been resprayed/painted although the decals look original. The bike seems quite under powered from what i remember from 250s from my youth and seems to have many false neutrals...?. However i like it a lot. Am brand new to trials although have been riding 35 yrs....I understand it is 50-1 oil mix......?

Has anyone had any bother with spltting the case on the 175 engine, I cannot get mine apart, first one in 40 years of doing my own engines that I can't get them to split, they are moving apart ta the main bearing end but wont budge at the back of the engine, I thought there must be a hidden screw somewhere but have got a new set of crankcase allen screws to rebuild with and there are 12 and I have taken out 12 screws, is there something peculiar about splitting this engine ?

  5. Hi guys, I’ve been working hard at restauring a nice ty175B 1975 and after cleaning the carb and changing piston rings, i still can’t get any power after first gear. But if i take off the air filter, I get enough torque to shift and I have great acceleration. What should I do ? I was thiking maybe a mikuni carb fixing kit, new seals and gaskets ?

  6. TY250 Mono Normally starts 1st or 2nd kick, been stood for a few weeks. Started no problem on Tuesday, came to start yesterday - no joy. Checked good spark and fuel getting through. Ive had the carb off and blown through with an airline - no gunge in float bowl. Only thing I can think of is that the fuel has gone off. If I dip the plug in some fuel drained from tank and light with a cig lighter it burns. If I remove wet plug from bike it will not burn??? Can anyone help please - its doing my head in. Thanks in advance

I think me gasket in between the float chamber and the main body has died. I dont know if its because I've opened up the carb about 4 times this week or its just old. Anyway after cleaning the insides to try and solve me latest problem fuels actually dripping out between the gap. Is it best to buy the standard gasket or do many of you use a liquid sealer. Cheers Squid.

Hi all, I've been riding dirtbikes and streetbikes my whole life, but am 100% new to the trials world. I picked up a 76 Yamaha TY250 last night here in the Seattle, WA, USA area. Brought it home and went inside to eat dinner. about an hr later i could smell fuel in the house. Drats. Went out to find a puddle of fuel under the bike. Fuel was accidentally on reserve, not off (still not good to find this much fuel on the floor) I come back out and find more fuel so i take a further look and the the bottom of the float bowl, the drain is dripping 1 drop of fuel every 2 seconds. Here is my question... does that mean I have a dirty or faulty float needle? Or does that mean …

Hi all, I got a TY and have been loving it. At our Trial last weekend it started bogging off idle. I cleaned the carb tonight and when I checked the idle screw it was only a half a turn out. I always think 1 and a half turns is closer to what I use as a standard starting point. I am going to be competing this weekend and just trying to get some input for when I try to tune it up at 8000 feet. Opening that screw is leaning it out and would be the right direction for higher altitudes,Right. Raising the clip one notch will also drop the needle and help also, correct. just need some reassurance as I need a good running bike to compete with these guys that have 7000 dollars in…

  12. Just picked up a 76 TY 175 and going through it to see what it needs. The airbox to carb boot has silicone covering a couple cracks so I would like to find one that is in better shape. Does anyone know of a source for these? I have done the usual searches on the search engines and also most all the vendors but nothing comes up for this application. The boot off a 77 TY 250 has the same size openings but is configured differently with different bends. Ebay has nothing that I see. Yamaha part # 525-14453-00-00 Thanks Sam

  13. What do you guys think? Ever needed one on the trail? What kind of a problem did you have with the chain to begin with? I can't see even owning one for the shop much less taking it on the trail. Opinions/ experiences - please explain in detail.

Hello all ,I have a 1983 yamaha 250 mono and have landed the sumpgaurd on a rock which has pushed the flywheel cover upwards and snapped off the top two screw bosses,or at least its forced the 6mm allen bolts up through the bosses wrecking them. My question is are the crankcases alloy or are they magnesium i can get alloy welded and make new bosses to weld on but will struggle if they are magnesium.I dont want to bodge the job with metalfillers,so if anyone knows it cant be welded i shall start looking for new crankcases, yes i now know i should have just had a standard cover on not an after market job because they give a bit. many thanks for all future replies.

I'm still having some problems with my Sammy Miller tank/seat unit dumping crud into the pilot jet and was thinking about giving it a coating of Caswell's GTS 1750 sealant. Anybody know where to get it in the UK? I know people have used it on fibreglass tanks in the past has anyone got any updates on how good it is in the long-term. Thanks for any reply's.

I modified last year a TY TS ( raised the motor and inclined the shock ) . When I took it apart to stoire it I noticed that the chain now sometime drag on the swingarm, so I looked at some pictures of Majesty and they seem to have some sort of guizmo to prevent that. Does anybody have a pictrue of thing. Guy

Hello, the chain and sprockets finally gave up the ghost so I fitted new matching 12/51 and a 428 chain. the chain has the same number of links as the old (stretched) one, but even on the longest adjustment, the chain seems tight to me. the old set up saw the tensioner rubber resting on the swingarm, whereas now, the gap is forefinger thickness. This seems the norm from what google images tells me, but to me it seems really tight, but it seems to ride better. I am used to enduro bikes, where the chain hangs like the proverbial hammock. what do you do and is the forefinger gap about right? I dont want to bust the gearbox! cheers Andrew
