Hi there, I'm currently in the process of my 1st resto project, a ty50 1g7. She is looking pretty good,I my opinion anyway, how ever I am a looking at getting some new plastics, I missed a set on eBay the other month, which seams must of been the last set ever, if any body has any ideas, I've seen the gonelli ones but I ain't sure if they would suit?. Unless I tryed to modify them, also included a couple of pics threw the stages., Ps sorry for the pics the wrong way around Thanks andy

Hey all, Just started a long overdue restore on my TY175 in Australia. The engine will be rebored with a Wossner piston. Is there any differences between the model 525 barrel and the 1N4 barrel? I have a spare 1N4 barrel that will take a 1st oversize rebore better than the 525. thanks for any help! Mark G

Hi, I've just purchased a TY250Z (water cooled mono) that needs some TLC before being ready to trial. One of the issues is that once changed up to 3rd or 4th gear I have problems changing down, it requires a lot of force/persistance. The lever moves down freely but there is no feeling of it changing gear, it just moves to a stop & springs back when pressure is released. Anyone seen this before/knows what the fix might be? I'm also having trouble finding a service manual to download, anyone know where I might find it? Thanks Phil

Just got a TY mono and on the first trial out the chain came off and wrapped itself around the front sprocket breaking the mountings. Think I can glue the mounting back in place using liquid metal, but to stop it happening again. Does anyone do a proper case saver for the TY mono?

Please see the attached photos. I believe that some component of my kickstarter is not right. I know this bike is pushing 40 years old and most of its life is a mystery to me but I find it unlikely that the solid steel kickstarter is bent. But it looks to me that this is the case. Other 175 owners -- Does you kicker fall out as far as mine does? Does it sit as far out from the bike in the 'normal' position as mine does? Thanks,

Hi I'm restoring a ty250R and need a set of rims. The rims are DID at the minute are they the right rims or are they aftermarket? I need to replace them as they have corroded badly.

Hi All, I'm rebuilding an old steed and what like some advice about the ignition. I tried a bike today with an electronic system, fitted about 3 years ago and found it a bit snappy almost like having a power band. It's true the system may have been set a tad advanced, on that I don't know. I didn't have a major problem with points, just wondering if I should invest a system before I replace the old. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks all

Hi. Can someone please tell me what the optimal squish is for my 1978 TY175 running on standard unleaded fuel? I plan on removing the head gasket as a starting point. I dread to ask but i will, what is the consensus on premix ratio using Castol A747 for trials riding??? Is Silkolene acceptable to Yamahas? That's it. Thanks

I have had a Sammy Miller seat on my TY175 for about ten years. As this unit was delivered to me it had a provision for three 6mm bolts to go through the bottom of the seat base and screw into the little seat which came with the unit. The design appeared to me to be somewhat flawed in that the seat when installed with the three little 6mm bolts completely covered the central bolt hole which actually attached the tank/seat unit to the bike. The result was that the seat/tank unit had to be attached to the bike without the seat itself being in place, then you had to figure out some way to get the three little 6mm bolts into the seat from under the seat/tank unit. My hands we…

Finally got my hands on a very nice set of TY250 forks, to put on my little TY175. Tore into them and other than years of crud, look good. Here's a before and after photo, with a little more polishing to do on these. Other than blocking off one of the smaller holes, any other tips to get these forks up and running again? Getting new seals and just wanted to see if I needed to do anything else before putting them all back together. Thanks for any advice!

  16. Anyone have luck making your own bash plate? Need a pattern, or just use paper to form? Just wanting to keep this project cheap and easy (a LOT like me!) so advice is welcome.. You can even tell me how to make my own engine side cover too! And if anyone has some cheap spares, that works too! Thanks to all!!!

I had the TY out today riding around the yard and it smokes pretty bad.The more throttle you give it the more it pours out white smoke and it will not clear out.The gas was mixed at 32:1 with a freshly cleaned and oiled filter. It,s only the second time that I,ve had it out since buying it back from a friend, but I know it didn,t smoke like this before. I,m thinking that it could be a primary side crank seal? Could it be worn rings? Too much oil on the filter or the fuel/oil mix?It does sit and idle good and I had no problems riding over logs behind the shed.On the plus side,I think that it killed off most of the mosquitos in the yard.

Hi all , I am new to the foruma and the world of trials and bought myself a TY250 . I was having a play about with the bike and after a few days it started to squeak . , I first of all replaced the rear wheel bearings as that was what I thought it was , The squek was still there . I tried to locate the noise and it seems to sound as if it is coming from the front sprocket .The chain seems to run ok around it and the only other thing I can think of is the bearing for the shaft . I am by no means a mechanic but any help or advice would be much appreciated .Is it a big job or if I am heading down the right road . Many thanks in advance Dusty

Hi all In July I had a piston failure and since have rebuilt the top and bottom end of the ty 250a. Now i feel the clutch is slipping when going down hills. The clutch does not slip at all under hard acceleration. I was using atf fluid after the rebuild and noticed a small amount of slipping going downhill so I switch to honda gear saver trans fluid. The clutch would slip on acceleration until it got really warmed up about an hour, so I went back to atf fluid and it only seems to slip going down hills. This doesnt make sense to me. Hopefully somebody can help me out before I tear back into the clutch. I have two more trials coming up soon . James
