Just assembling the crankcases on a '74 247 Cota and before I fit the clutch just want to make sure I haven't missed something. Do the crankcase bolts have O rings underneath the washers to stop air / oil escaping past the bolts? I can't recall seeing any when I took it apart although there were traces of silicon under the washers maybe, but I can't really remember, besides, there are usually traces of silicon sealer everywhere on old engines so doesn't necessarily mean anything. I'd never have thought myself but someone has mentioned there should perhaps be O rings fitted. Or is it just bolts, nuts and washers? I have a parts book but it only gives part numbers and n…

I just did a top end rebuild on my '74 TY250 and it is running great. Wanting to make sure all of my settings are correct, I checked my original Yamaha 1974 TY250 service manual (Copyright 1974) for the spark plug gap for the NGK B-7ES. In the specs section, page 4, it says 0.4 - 0.5mm But on page 29 it provides 0.5 - 0.6mm as the plug setting. Trail & TrialsUK sells the B-7ES plug with the notation 0.3 - 0.4 mm plug gap for a points ignition, which I have. A google search did not provide me with any other sources. What say you, and what's the source of your info? Thanks

I have trawled the archive, but not found quite what I need. I need to replace the tubed tyres on my Ossa MAR, but need something properly road legal. From reading the other threads it seems like Michelin are the only option, though not their radial. I've looked on the Michelin website though they don't list this one, so which should I be buying? Ta

Well I have the crank seals on hand, and since I don't know when they may have been replaced last, I figure I may as well change them out. I'm waiting on getting the cylinder back from the machine shop sporting a new overbore piston anyway...... Since I've never replaced crank seals before I have a few questions please...... Is the counter flywheel [ on the clutch side ] nut reverse thread? ie; turn clockwise to loosen? Does the counter flywheel require a tool similar to the flywheel puller to remove? Next, remove the clutch basket? Now, pull the primary gear with a puller.......then remove the crank bearing cap and gasket........ OK, how does the seal come out, pr…

Hi all, I`ve kind of inherited a 242 montesa, trouble is its in a terrible state as its been left outside for years on the farm my dad shoots on. My question is were these mont`s any good and is it worth restoring? The one saving grace is its all original and all there and the forks look to be in reasonable condition some pitting but above the seal area, the engine has however seized up through being stood. Or should I save my money and sell it on or break it for spares. Any advice welcome. Andy

noticed this was my 200'th post..and have been thinking of adding a 200 top end to my 123, I heard back in the day that you could put the 200 top end on a 123 bottom end and there was no difference in the 123 and 200 bottom ends, is this true? has anyone done this? my bike is a '82 model I think, (white tank, red frame) is the 200 actually a 173cc?

Now I've got no Speedo so I've gone off and bought a cycle speedo, a wireless type, looks quite good and it works........ but will it be enough to pass?? Hello. I am thinking of buying a twin shock and I appreciate these old things, even ones that look mint, can be a bit of an unknown quantity and take some sorting. What I want to avoid is buying something I can't get bits for, especially engine parts at realistic prices. At the minute I would like a Bultaco or an Ossa or maybe even a Fantic or Montesa. Something probably mid seventies very early eighties. What should I avoid? Any suggestions/guidance or help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Scragg

The Seeley needs some shocks. I saw an old thread on the subject where folk were singing the praises for Falcons. I was reading in the Classic dirtbike mag today NJB now do a Trikshock. There is a tenner difference between the two. The bloke at Falcon builds em to order depending on your weight etc and can make em up using a MX piston which makes the bike feel more like a mono apparently. Any thoughts ??? Thanks in advance PS Its the steel Falcons I am considering.

Been looking on the www trying to find some info / photos of Fox rear shocks to fit my bultaco, think they use to make shocks for trials bikes ? If you know of any links that could help then please post them below Any info / or photos so i know what to look for or were to look would be a really big help and i would be very great full for your time. Have been riding mountain bikes for the last 25 years and as soon as Fox started making mountain bike shocks they were so much better than the rest of the stuff on the market they cost a bit more, you got so much more performance for your money. So i was thinking it would be nice to try and find a pair for my bultaco sh…

Hi, does anyone know the differences between the two as i am after an o/s piston for a 247 montesa and as bultaco pistons are more common i was hoping they may be interchangeable without too much trouble, Are the small end bearings the same size (piston pin same size ) and the same height. I can always more the ring pins if needed Dave

Rode a few of the ACU classic rounds last year on my old TY Pinkie, loved the trials, so much so I'm thinking of getting a twinshock bike just for doing these type of trials. I've always like the look of the TY175, having never ridden one I was wondering what they are like? They seem's to be loads about (see cheap
