Hi I just noticed my front brake lever is cracked - not surprising when you see the bend in it - but I am not sure what to replace it with - is it the Amal 534 and are the reproductions breakable rather than bendable? Can anyone suggest and Australian or UK supplier who will post to Oz

I have just bought a Montesa Cota 330. I believe it is a 1985 model but that's just a guess at the moment. The bike is a non runner at the moment but almost complete. The previous owner said it ran but not too well, they thought it was carb so fiddled with it and now can't start it at all!! The first thing I noticed was the air box is missing and someone has fitted a aftermarket foam filter. Does anyone know of an airbox for sale? The second thing I noticed was the whole fork and wheel assy. has been fitted backwards!! Handling would be interesting and the brake next to useless as it's relying on the trailing edge. From this I have deducted the previous owners have …

Hello all Wonder if anyone can help. Having a nightmare trying to start my tr77 mar.The plug is sparking and getting wet but it wont fire at all. The carb is clean and all blown through with compressed air. I took the flywheel cover off to check the timing and found its been fitted with motoplat points ignition. The wires that come off all seem to be original and mate up with the connectors so I wondered if these were fitted as standard. The wires that come from the mag are black, white, green and yellow.I think the black is live as it is the only one that makes a spark but perhaps someone knows better. Cheers Andy

. Bore and piston is OK on the 349 but the piston pin has suffered from the same internal corrosion that wrecked many other parts (I already have a rod and big-end kit to fit). I can get a new piston, with a pin, for the oh-so modest sum of

I have bought a pair of Betor Gas Aluminum Trial shocks and found the bush a little too wide to fit in my frame. The bush feels like it’s in a spherical bearing so I’m not sure if they press out? I emailed Betor and I’m not sure they knew what I was asking…. It needs to be just 2mm narrower - so I could grind it down in situ, but if it comes out I’d prefer to do that. Stephen

Hi, I have a Bing Carb fitted to my Ossa TR 350 1977 which in spite of new Seals and bowl Gasket leaks fuel over my nice fresh engine enamel. Does anyone know of a replacement alternative, a knowlagable friend said he used a 'Kawasaki KMX 125' item with good performance and no leaks, Any advice most welcome. Cheers, Vaughan.

I have a Montesa 172 with Gearbox selection problems. Will go into first, but will not change up ? I've done as much as I can think of to repair (and I'm fairly mechanically minded) to no avail. The bike is in really good condition and a shame just to leave standing. A couple of options I can think of....... 1 - Does anyone know of a business or individual (preferable in the North East of England so I could take the whole bike along) who could repair ?? 2 - Engine swap ? Thought of TY175, or even TL125 (CG 125 etc) - Any opinions (or even any suitable engines anyone has lying about they may want to sell !!) ?? cheers and thanks in advance for any advice cheers John

Hi lads hope you will be able to help me out. I have a Montesa cota 200 and have a bit of a problem with the gearbox on it. When riding up hill it has a tendency to jump out of gear, has anyone had similar problems on this bike and if so what was it. I had an Ossa that had a similar fault and it was the spring for the detent plunger had snapped, is there a one of these fitted to this bike or is it a different system. Any help would be gratefully received. Cheers Glenn

I'm riding 1970 Montesa Cota 247. I'm beginner and stating to compete in vintage trails events, meaning riding in woods. My bike has 10/48 sprockets set. The Cota manual indicate that the factory bike has 11/46 set. The difference is about 12%. But what does it mean? My main goal is to ride as slowly as I can in 1st gear and maintain smooth acceleration when needed. Does the 11/46 ratio is slower then 10/48? Should I changed back to the factory setting?

My dilemma is which to prepare and ride first. I have at least one example of each of the above and dont ask why! I think it must just be a mental illness? I once thought I was a Bultaco man through and through, but I must of been wrong. Probably my 6sp Sherpa would take the least amount of work to get ready to ride again, I would appreciate opinions on shock choice though as I dumped the original Betors years ago. The 330 Cota I did once have running, but I need to make a new output shaft as the last owner attacked it or rather the sprocket with an angle grinder and got carried away! Why did Montesa chose a taper mount!! I also have an example of both 250 and …
