Twinshock

  1. Started by newton1,

Hi. I recently retired and I have just started the restoration of a 1976 Honda TL125S. The bike came with an engine from a SL125, but the cylinder head is unuseable. Has anyone fitted a Honda CG125 engine to one of these bikes? Will any CG engine fit? I am hoping to use the bike on the roads. Any help you can offer will be appreciated. Thanks. JOHN

Wondering if anybody has purchased a alloy handlebar from france trials classic. It says it a size 6 and Im wondering if this equates to 150mm rise. i'm 6ft 4 and i'm looking for the highest bar possible - any other suggestions welcomed. ps Id prefer a high bar rather than a modified triple clamp or relocated footpeg locations.

Rode a few of the ACU classic rounds last year on my old TY Pinkie, loved the trials, so much so I'm thinking of getting a twinshock bike just for doing these type of trials. I've always like the look of the TY175, having never ridden one I was wondering what they are like? They seem's to be loads about (see cheap

Just wondering if any of you guys could help me with a couple of problems with my 349 clutch ? I rebuilt the engine some time ago but the clutch has never been right, always drags even when warm. Tried different oils from TQF (dextron) to light gear oil that was for my TXT GG. The TQF made the clutch very snachy, like a on/off switch but still dragged The light gear oil smoothed the take off up but still it dragged. The second problem is that on occasion the clutch will slip when kicking the bike over. I can understand that the plates may be worn and that new ones may cure the slip but is there anything that can stop the drag.

A freind of mine brought his two SWM's to my house the other night to see what I could do with them. one is a 81 240 (black framed) in box's and peices. The other one is a 82 240 ( blue frame no rear loop) that rolls on it's wheels but alot of bits to it in a box too. So after a note to MartinM to see what the correct plug should be ,I cleaned the tank and carb , dropped in a new plug and some good fuel and the 82 ran on its own ! I just had to try it out ... And I have to ask those that may know , is the 240 fantic a whole lot more powerful than these or do I just have alot more work ahead of me ! Now that the 82 does run at least , it gets remanufactured ,The bike is s…

The Cota from hell has unleashed a new fault, the Flywheel boss is ever so slightly loose! I can feel a bit of rotational play only between the steel boss and the outer. Will it sort of rivet tight again using a punch and hammer??? Does anyone know the method of contruction of these?? Will a Motoplat flywheel of another bike fit? perhaps a 248 349 of similar age or even Bultaco or Ossa and would balancing be an issue? The part number on mine is 063025 6V40/9/21W33. Thanks Ian

Ok I have started to strip my mh349 down and assess whats required, I have owned this bike from new and used it for trials and for general nobbing about the countryside. I has seen little use in the last 15 years apart from a handfull of trials about 8 years ago. Its been buried in the shed since and has deteriated shamefully in that time. It still has the origional cables, front tyre, paint, chain and front sprocket the rear being changed from 33 to 38 tooth when only a few weeks old. So it needs; The frame and exhaust painting The engine rattles on overrun and the piston is quite loose in the bore so I guess a rebore will be required soon although the compression is…

I don't know if anyone has ever tried to check the operation of your ignition without the engine running, can be useful if the bike wont start and your unsure of whats causing it, especially if you have electronic ignition. I thought I would share this video on UTUBE with you as its a easy way of testing without annoying the neighbors and gassing yourself in the garage. This method will work on points and electronic so long as you have a drill or something that will rotate the engine. Don't say too much about the idiot doing it....its me.

Hi I've just bought a montesa cota 200, but it requires a pair of rear shockers. I was wondering what's avalable and what people would recomend. I've seen the betor and NJB shockers advertised but don't know if they are any good or if there's anything better. any info would be a great help.

I need some help regarding the following for a 349 "white tank" Montesa. 1 - I need a fuel filler cap . 2 - Clutch and gearbox filler plastic tops (Threaded) and i presume the clutch filler is on the outside with the gearbox filler nearer the centre of the engine. Amounts for Fork oil,Gearbox oil and Clutch. It also has a Crankcase/chainguide protector that the chain tensioner fits onto, this is damaged and I wondered if there were any after market options available. Is there a standard spacer to replace the old speedo mechanism or will it need to be specially machined. Sorry if some of these are a bit vague. i would appreciate any help or advice. Thanks in advanc…

I dont get the mag myself, but heard they built a really tricked up TY175 over the first few issues, and the bike ended up getting sold. Wonder how much the bike went for, as a mate of mine used to own a TY175 in the 1970s, and is looking for another one, but doesnt want sometthing needing lots of work?

The tyres on my Fantic 200 are totally shot and need replacing. I called into my local motorcycle tyre place and they told me neither Pirelli or Michelin makes a tubed type tyre any longer. When I asked what I could do since I have tubed type rims (Akront), all I got was a blank expression and a shrug of the shoulders. Thanks lads! Is it possible to run a tube inside a tubeless tyre? Please advise.
