Pre-65 Bikes

  1. Started by gbmoto,

It's been a while but have made a bit of progress with the Ex Eastwood c15. DVLA have sorted the reg doc and it is now registered under its original number with the help from BSA owners club. The engine has been rebored and top end cleaned up, electronic ignition, amal concentric. Have just finished chopping the subframe and sorting out a new front mount, I was worried about this as the bike is very original but once I put sensible shocks on I could hardly touch the ground!, anyway the works bikes had the same treatment. The big subframe mount has been removed and the seat has been modded at the front to nearly fill the gap to the tank. When I removed the original si…

I have just bought a trials modified Tiger Cub with PVL ignition. It looks like PVL has milled a slot in the casing (where the engine number was, as it's not by the front mount) and added their aluminium logo into this slot, therefore I only have the frame number to go by. Has anyone got any experience of registering a bike with an age related plate based on frame number only?

Help guys, what would you do with a genuine 'Comerfords cub', my dilemma is do I restore it back to former glory or do I go all modern using all the trick bits now available.I am fully aware that it is not competitive in its original trim but would it still be desirable as I don't think there are that many around any more.At the end of the day they are only a converted 'Mountain Cub' but as rough as they are they are still part of 'Triumphs' famous trialing history.

  10. Afternoon all, Havent been on here for quite a while but decided to come back as Im about to start a new project as the Bantam is know finished, been blown up twice and is sitting in the garage looking sorry for itself Anyway, Ive got me hands on a 1966 BSA C15 star which, like my last one needs a full rebuild. Thankfully the engine is running and is sweet so that will be left until I earn some more money so I can add in the trials gearing, PVL ignition etc etc So onto the frame, forks and swinging arm. Its going to be a pure bred trials bike and although it will take along time, it will be done properly I only have a limited budget so Im looking at ways to save mo…

  11. Started by howard,

What are the best light, with 'good' brakes, pre 65 hubs for 36 spoke, 21" and 18" rims please? I'd like to avoid the heavy BHC hubs.I'm refurbishing a 1964 DOT and would like to know what best to look for? Also, is a 21x1.4" front rim OK for a modern trials tyre or does it have to be 1.6"? Thanks for your help.

As part of my refurb / upgrade project on my HT I want to sort out the gear ratios. It currently has a standard GB road box, which has been made low geared enough with a large rear sprocket and small engine one.But although first is fine, second is too big a jump - then third and top are all done by about 25mph ! So looking at what was originally supplied as a wide ratio box i now know what I need to change.Knowing that the 4 individual cogs,(Mainshaft sleeve,2nd gear mainshaft - then the two layshaft gears they mesh with) are like hens teeth,I wondered about the new ones that were around little while ago.(Why didnt I just buy them then ? ) Are they the same tooth count a…

Restored by me last winter, pictures during the rebuild are in particular order ,The gear leaver was off at the time of taking the last pictures and the front brake cable needed connecting as well. Also found out the bike has a 1949 front tyre on it as well! Still got a few bits and bobs left to do to her. Before: After:

Hi, Will kindly ask if any of you do know the mesaurements of threads at the back end of Amal MK1 body? I do need to extend the rear end of the carb by ~3" (have seen such solutions somewhere, made of nylon..on a Bantam) Do you think any tube ( for other assemby..?) with matching threads inside is available? I might can use a std part, Polished Alloy Bellmouths, but dont know if its perfect to seal the air boot to a chone. BR,

Anybody that wants to throw there hat in the ring is welcome and no idea would be consider silly.. Bike is in Australia and is my pre 65 project if it lives that long. will be waiting "sleeping" at my keyboard till I get some ideas.. Timing setup? points? I dont know. Thanks guys Chris
