Hi Have started the rebuild of a 1964 BSA B40 and have 2 questions 1st the bike has a high level front pipe from s/miller but needs a new rear part of the exhaust, has anyone had the silverback exhaust of e bay http://www.ebay.co.u...=item27cdc599c6 or do you have any other surggestions. Having spent a small fortune on the engine up to now and still not running would like some help with engine oil, what is the best full sinthetic you can use in the old thumper, eg 20/50 full or part sinthetic. thanks simon

My 350 AJS currently has just a mesh covered intake on the 376 monobloc filter and I have been wondering if it might be an idea to fit a proper air filter to save wear and damage to the engine. If so which would be better, a chrome pancake with paper filter like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321657925837?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Or a K&N type cone filter attached to an adapter liker this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261504367267?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251859967712?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Any comments and advice woul…

Hi, I'm really keen on getting a Rigid (I like a challenge!) and while top choice would be something like a nice big Matchless, funds just aren't going to stretch that far at the moment. I've been looking at little Bantam's and the most available option at the right price is by far a plunger framed version. Are plunger frames going to be any use or will I be fighting a losing battle? I will be buying it as a bit of a project but will be trying to keep it reasonably standard so would rather not start replacing the rear loops to get rid of the plungers. Any opinions would be appreciated! Thanks!

I notice from previous posts some people are using 'Sammy Miller' Oil tank braced struts, which I assume neccesitate the alloy petrol tank. Does this make the the bike a oil in frame type and not legible for Scottish Pre-65? If it is acceptable, is this beneficial to the side alloy tank. Any comments. What forks are you people using on your bikes, Pre-65 only.

Rode the cub for only the 2nd time today but one of the main problems is the tyre to chain clearance, The s/arm has been lengthend & widened on the right but the left side is standard the clearance is very tight and i have extended the c/gaurd the stop mud being picked up on the chain and that worked but mud is getting between the c/guard and tyre and forceing it over to rub against the chain. I know you can space the engine over 5/6mm to get the chain away from the tyre or is it better to get another s/arm? (miller or Mcdonald) or get mine alterd more? Interested to hear how you guys have got round this problem. This is Midlands mud! dont suppose up north its such a …

I need help with a project I have bought which I was going to use for spares but after giving it a look over I think it might have a bit of history to it.My thoughts are that it has been built rather well, its frame has been modified with twin rails under the motor (the frame number is d10***)and is clearly bantam and the rest of the bike has been built with a lot of thought, does this ring any bells with anybody.Thank you.

Hi all, I hope the link to my flickr page works and maybe someone can have a look and confirm if these are Betor forks. the only writing of any sort is cast into the handlebar clamps but they bolt on so this could be misleading. Thanks. And if they are Betor that makes them Spanish? Could they then be pre65? They are for my Mark one Sprite which I understand could possibly be built in 1964 but more likely pre 1968. They need rechroming if anyone knows a good specialist in Surrey or London? www.flickr.com/photos/33646233@N04/4448683344/in/pool-1391096@N22 Visit My flickr group I have started a picture album with Sprite pictures. Maybe some of you could add some…

  10. I have been building a replica Norton 500T for the last seven years and finally I am getting enough time to finish it. I plan to use a 26mm Mk 1 Amal concentric carburettor and would like to understand where to start with the jets, needle and slide. A good starting point would be what do other riders use on Ariel HT5 or similar 500 cc singles, I plan to use a simple foam air filter mounted on the inlet without an air box. Also how do real Amal and similar replica parts compare? Any feedback appreciated

Could someone advise a solution to a small problem please, I fitted a PVL ignition to a cub I'm building, it has the plate that mounts on the crankcase bolts rather than the modification of the 3 posts. when I try to fit the primary chaincase the bottom plate mounting stops the case going on. So before I grind off anything and completely B***s it up does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks

  13. Ok so i am in the midst of my greeves/honda project. Taking a honda tl125 engine and transplanting it into a greeves (what i think is a pathfinder) chassis. I call it Gronda.... I have heard of Hondeeves projects but i wanted to be different. So while it was down to bare chassis I decided that this thing needs a proper skid plate. My dad has another path finder and two other Anglians and his designs were not to my liking. This frame was my christmas present from him. I cant start to tell you how excited i was... <<<i am such a trials nerd! So here is what I did. I acutally did this earlier this winter but just getting around to posting it. I did this with st…

  14. Hi while assembling the gearbox components I fitted a new camplate spring, second hand camplate (identical) because point at 3rd gear postion on trackway was not worn on the spare I found in a box. Spring was set at correct height, when depressed, in relation to cam pivot and all seemed well. Assembled the cases to check and found that the camplate makes a definate clunk against the bottom of the housing when selecting 4th. Viewing with a bright light spring is engaged in camplate correctly. Looked at the old camplate and there was no wear mark at the spring/camplate location to indicate that the cam was being held out of place by the lowest point of the camplate meetin…

Firstly - Hello to you all I am picking up a Sprite trials bike this weekend fitted with a Sachs 125 engine, accompanying it is a spare Sachs engine & chromoly frame. The bike has been sat festering in my dads shed for the best part of 15 years, prior to this it was owned by my great uncle. I stripped to restore it approx 8 years ago, the restoration was halted by a move & I recently stumbled upon this thread which has rejuvenated my interest. My dad has now agreed to let me have the bike as he has no time in which to restore it but I have noticed very limited information available on the internet, I have trawled all the information available online but was won…

Many British bikes fitted with the Amal carburettor use a round screw on air filter which usually has either a paper or gauze filter element. Which type is best though, some of the gauze ones look rather poor (you can see straight through them) the paper ones I suppose may get wet when it rains via the holes in the metal outer so which type is the better option?

Hi hope this is the correct place to post this , I would like to try trials and am thinking of doing a experience day with inch perfect trials. I also own a Bantam which I want to convert to mild off / on road use nothing too serious ( I would buy a trials bike for that ) and daylight mot. Ideally something I could use on green lanes and maybe pay and play places as I have a couple near me. What would be the minimum must have mods, mudguards etc seem straight forward, It's fitted with heavyweight front forks. I'm guessing folding pegs, kick-start lever etc but how about wheels? I know I can fit a cub rear swingarm to fit a wider tyre but is there a rear wheel of choice…

Hi all I purchased a whole bunch of new bits for the clutch on my Villiers 37A today. The crank seal on the drive side of the crank looked a bit worn so I got a new Viton one . Is it fairly easy to pry the old seal out of the crankcase end? The old seal looks like it is a standard rubber/nitryl type. Is there any special precautions I should be aware of? Thanks in advance David
