Pre-65 Bikes

  1. I have acquired a new 'R' Cam and gear from an early Distributor Cub and want to fit it to my later Side Points Engine. I am running electronic ignition so points etc are not an issue. I am getting an earlier type outer cam bush (blind type) to match the 1/16" smaller diameter outer end of the earlier cam shaft. The gear and inner shaft fit into my engine without issue and the overall length looks the same (including the slotted distributor drive of the cam shaft) I will drill into the blind bush from the inside of the gearbox case to supply oil to the outer camshaft bearing. Is there anything else I need to do? It looks as simple as that! …

  2. I continue to have problems with the Cub I built from all my spare parts for my Son to ride. It has a habit of leaking the contents of the Sammy Miller type top tube oil tank onto his shed floor!. The first time this happened I replaced the steel balls in the later type oil pump for a plastic ball and spring upgrade kit from UPB. But after sitting in his shed for a few months, it just did it again. I drained the remaining oil from the engine sump and got about 250 to 300 ml out. The total capacity is around 750 to 800 ml with the external oil filter and oil tank filled. I did notice the jubilee clip on the oil feed pipe to the bottom of the engine wa…

I need a bit of help from any amc experts out there with a bike I have just bought, the story goes this machine was brought back from Zimbabwe in 2006 in large lumps in a container it was then reassembled by the owner to the state its in now. It seems to me to have the correct trials frame but has no c in the frame number, the motor is g3c 1961 and the gearbox is marked with a t and it has a wader mag fitted. The wheels and exhaust are quite clearly wrong unless this is some strange export model what do you think? hoping for some input here guys, building a paul Jackson framed cub and struggling with the chain tensioner position, was hoping to get it tucked up behind the peg mount on the swing arm but the chain had clearance issues with the spring when the swingarm moved, I have tried a gasgas/universal/beta tensioners and all have issues mounting in this area, so I have now mounted one on the back of the peg mount, clearance with the chain is the best I have had it and as the swingarm moves the tensioner keeps tension. I like this position but are there any issues with doing it this way? I thought that because is it still mounted close to the pivot point of the swingarm the …

Hi all, sorry may have the wrong site but you may still be able to help me. I own a 1963 triumph tiger cub SH . I am having trouble with the timing on my bike. Having gone through all relevant stuff I'm now looking at the advanced timing unit ATU. Having removed the unit I find that there is a slot in the unit that I presume locates on a peg, but looking down the shaft of the camshaft I cannot see a location peg. My question is should it have a location peg or has it broken off at some point? Any ideas anyone? Thanks anyway

My sons just bought a 1934 Royal Enfield, the cost of bits is killing him well the few we can find, as he is a humble apprentice. Its missing the Mag Dyno thing, only one we have seen is £300 and its not working so as its only for shows and wont be having much road use we are thinking of using a total loss battery powered system, has any one done this? We have seen a few on line but it would be good to talk to some one who has done it, we are even contemplating building one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AoSJIdhsME&t=147s He just wants the bike together and running originality can wait until he can manufacture the parts he can't find..

Hello I have a nice rear wheel built on a D10 half width hub that I used to run in a C15 frame and swinging arm. I was thinking about using it in a B40 WD frame and swinging arm I have for a vintage Mx build. The spindle is obviously a little short in the B40 WD swinging arm, are there any other longer spindles that fit the Bantam hub to help with this?

I am putting the final touches to a James am building got it started and there was a intermitant noise comming from the engine and think have found the problem I have fitted the smaller front sprocket and the chain is slightly rubbing the front crank case with the seal I brought all the parts from villiers services and they said I need to use a die grinder to make it fit thats OK, and I mention the play on the clutch hub shaft (9E conversion on 8E gbox) and they told me there is an adjuster behind the gearbox casing where the push rod goes through but cannot find any details apart from the play should be 0.02" just need an idea how to do it also I have to align the fron…

  20. Hey guys! I picked up a Tiger Cub Trials recently and looking to mod the suspension to more better/modern-ish. For the front end I'm looking at baby cerianis as an option. Has anybody went this route fro a front end? Or would a set of 35 Betors be a smarter option. Thanks in advance! Jeff
