General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

Hi guys, i am looking to venture into trials for a year or two in between a break from motocross and i'm looking to spend max £2500 on my first trials bike. i have settled on a 250 but i am just needing to sort out what brand. I am currently looking at a 2011 sherco 250 which is within my budget or a 2010 gasgas which is more than i want to spend. Are sherco's unreliable or inferior to gas gas as i have read some things on the net some love em and some hate em. (we get this in mx aswell) is there anything to look for in buying a second hand trials bike? similar to motocross second hand? are sherco traditionally alot cheaper than gasgas? thanks in advance. and any oth…

Hi guys I hope I'm posting in the right forum here. Having ridden mountain bike trials for over 12 years I've just got my first moto trials bike - 2012 Gas Gas TXT 280 Pro Racing. Absolutely loving it so far - real challenge but so much fun. My question is regarding the rear brake. I'm used to hydraulic rim brakes with a grind on my mtb trials bike which are insanely powerful and then hydraulic discs on my downhill bike which are equally powerful but obviously not as grabby. The front brake on my Gas Gas is really sweet, I can easily stoppie or lock up for nice endos etc really happy with it. However the back brake compared to what I'm used to is pretty weak. If I r…

Any way to get my tires soft again? They harden up over time and I'm wondering if I can soak them in solvent or alcohol to get that new feeling back.

Do any of you folks add them to your bikes ? I always forget when fluids were changed so I probably over change them ... I'm thinking of getting couple of these for the old Fantics . http://worksconnection.com/details.php?id=722 This is the co. I got the way cool flush / flanged allen head skid plate mount bolts I used on the aluminum plate I modified to fit the 240 , Quality stuff from what I've seen . And just out of curiosity how many hours do you put on oils in your trials bikes ? Glenn

The front caliper on my '21 TRS has an annoying tendency to drag constantly and I can't seem to fix it. Couple of days ago on a long steep descent it overheated so badly I completely lost front brake. It wasn't from over use of the brake, it's a hill I've been riding a couple of times a week for quite a few years on a variety of bikes. I am very careful how I use the brakes and it's not a problem. But this time the brake was dragging really quite hard - it would start to skid a little on flat, loose dirt with no brake applied. I took it very carefully down trying not to use front brake at all, but it still completely overheated to the point of the disc just beginning to…

All new trials bikes seem to come with Michelin tyres fitted, are they better than other makes or just cheaper? Do different makes of tyre work better in different conditions? What tyre pressures are best for different conditions?

Hi Guys. I've been reading some topics on here regarding machine choice for first timers and opinions seem divided as to which one is best. So rather than ask for someone to recommend a specific make and model, my question is this. Would a year 2000 Gas Gas txt250 be suitable for a novice trial rider? I'll be competing in the 'ahem', over 40's class, and I've covered more miles on road bikes than I'd care to think about. So, what do you lot think?

Well today was all going so well then I tired myself out a bit so had a break for a while, In came the rain so I got riding again too keep warm and trying some pretty big steps/climbs and staying happy with my riding again but as the day drew on we made our way back up towards where I wrecked my wheel last week. I really should have known I was completely knackered but there was a nice step pointed too me and I thought balls too it lets have a go then why oh why did I do that! didn`t get the front wheel up any where near enough and you guessed it I now have a nice flat spot on my brand new rim Hopefully this will dress out with my mate the hammer tomorrow I`d l…

  10. I've been riding Beta for a few years now, 2017 300 for 3-400 hours and now a 2020 for another 360 hours. Prior to that I had a 2015 (I think it was) Sherco 290 (disliked that one) and before that a 2007 GasGas 250 (which I still have but haven't ridden for ages). I'm thinking about stepping onto a TRS RR 300 but it would be a step into the unknown as I have never ridden one and don't know anyone within 300km with one I could borrow. I'm OK with that - there's no "bad" bikes out there these days so I'm comfortable buying one un-ridden - it'll be trials bike, all good. What I'd like to hear is some comments about how the two bikes, Beta 300 (not factory) and TRRS R…

Well, time has come I'm afraid...... Got meself a 315R and a helmet, and going to my first Trial as a competitor on Sunday. Slightly nervous to say the least, so any words of wisdom would be most welcome. I've given the bike a good servicing to, so there should be no snags there....its just my bottle that might let me down.... I think I've covered all the bases, but if theres anything obvious (to you) that I will defo need, let me know. Do I need to bother with tools etc, or is it a case of Bike broken-time to retire? What can I expect on a novice route? Any big rocks or anything? I've got a couple of days practice between now and then, so what should I be concentr…

We will have a hard enduro at nigt here next month. Can I put a 35W or 55W halogen light in my Sherco ST300 2015? Or there something else beside bike battery powered lights? (will use in my helmet)

As you can probably tell by my previous posts and topics, I'm pretty new to working on bikes. I was looking for tutorials on changing my footpegs but I can only come across motorcross ones which use cotter pins and are very different from the ones I have. Does anyone have a video I can use to go off. I'm scared that if I remove my footpegs I won't be able to put them back on. (I haven't got a new pair yet)

Hi All, Few weeks ago at a trial I lost my rear brakes. Had a quick look at the fluid (full) and then took the caliper off and had a look, there's no pressure on the foot brake and the cylinders weren't pushing out. Got back home and bled the system out fully, still having the same problems, anyone got any ideas what I can try next? Cheers Andy

Good Day all, At the end of March I bought a TRS One RR 300 cc - 2023 new. I got a very good deal and visually it looks very well finished compared to the Vertigo ( Finish close to the GasGas ). I did not ride it yet as I am abroad fro business. Will be back this week and hopefully ride it in the week end. What are your thoughts / experiences on this bike, please? Thanks! Kasty

I just fit a lanyard style kill switch to my GasGas. It's the Leonelli version. I want a spare lanyard / magnet just in case I lose or misplace it during an event. The place I got it did not carry spare lanyard / magnets. I haven't had any luck finding a spare sold in the U.S. I ordered a Jistsie spare but the poles on the magnet are reversed so it doesn't work. Anyone know somewhere in the U.S. that might sell the spares? Thanks! Doc

Scorpa 2005 photos are out as well now so with Sherco and GG it really is a case of spot the difference in the 2 strokes, exclude the cosmetic colour changes and they are pretty much the same as 04. No mention of a Scorpa 4t so it looks like a Sherco mont race to get the 4 strokes out to the Public, who will be first???
