General Trials Talk

It's about time I started changing my own tyres. The rear on my Beta is almost exactly a year old and is almost a semi-slick. Here's the thing: The only related tools I have are a couple of pretty decent tyre levers and a foot pump. Do I stand any chance at all? I'd rather not shell out for expensive bead-breakers etc. since it's not something I need very often (can you tell?)

Where are you in the learning curve? I liked this idea when I was teaching......When I assessed my students I would ask myself, are they: 1. Unconsciously incompetent? 2. Consciously incompetent? 3. Consciously competent? 4. Unconsciously competent? or, 1. I am unaware of what I need to know (or how to do it). 2. I am aware what I need to know, (but struggle to do it) 3. I can do it if I think about it 4. I can do it without thinking I just thought I would share that thought... hope someone enjoys. Cheers Graham

Hey up all, bit of an enforced break since last July as many of you will know, and time has come to take the short trip down the Stroud to possibly collect Gerty2? Dirty Donna? Somerton Classic trials club ran their annual 'end of year' trial at Hext Hill, Low Ham, yesterday (28-12-2016). firstly I will make it clear I am not complaining about a venue, I am just trying to provide context. As the name suggests the venue is relatively high and is very open, so when it's warm it still feels cold and when it is cold it is B****y freezing. However the venue is good and some excellent trials are put on by the club, yesterday was no exception. Personally I had a great day, plenty of festive chat and banter and a good trial. We're putting on a 2Day event this year which will be Vintage bikes the first day, and Modern the next! Guys coming from a long way to ride, just wanted to field some ideas from you on things we can do to make this event even more special!! I have been restoring a Montesa Cota 348 Malcolm Rathmell Replica over the last few months, unfortunately although the tank/seat unit looked very good the dreaded Ethanol has attacked the inside even though it had been treated with a sealer ( make unknown). Great lumps of the stuff could be heard rattling around inside when the tank was shaken, after fishing as much out as possible ( depressing work) I realised that the only really effective repair would be either an alloy tank beneath a shelter or a complete alloy tank and seat unit both of which were turning out to be expensive options. Hi just wondering what new bikes people reccomend the most, I currently have a 2017 gas gas 280 but looking to get something new towards the end of the year but no idea What, I would get a new gas gas 300 but a mate of mine has just bought one and is having problems with it bogging out etc, I like the look of trs but have another mate with one that the throttle got stuck on and it went bang and he's had lots of trouble getting parts for it, I don't really like the look of vertigo and think there way overpriced. Hi Guys, A bit of backstory first: I'm 38 years old, pretty athletic and as a younger man raced short circuit on a 600, plus dabbled with motocross for circa 10yrs- racing 250 2t and 450 4t at club level (and slowly. Hi, can anyone advise me on the tools I should carry in a backpack when out practicing ?

I had "slight" play, up and down ,(none noticeable side to side)on my swinging arm and it looked like the swinging arm bearings had worn on my 98 Techno I stripped all the swinging arm and linkage down ,cleaned the bearings and bushes.They looked a little worn (not excesively though) especially the bushes. Do I really need to get new bearings and bushes for the small amount of play that there is. Or is it false economy ,and going to cause more problems somewhere else like chain/sprocket wear(which I`ve just had new) At

Trying to decide what fuel to run,here are my choices: Vp-110 leaded- easy to get. The fuel distributor across the street from my house keeps in stock,reasonable price. Any VP unleaded would cost me alot more and I'd have to buy more than I could use quickly. 93 octane(us pump) has alcohol,comes from a station that uses separate hoses for each grade,so I get 100% premium each time I buy 2 gallons,My Grand Cherokee runs great on this fuel,and it has very aggressive knock sensors,runs like crap due to oversize tires when octane isn't up to snuff.been running this fuel ok in my bikes as I only buy just enough to use in a couple of weeks,just don't like the Idea of alcohol …
