  1. I have a 76 TL250 with pretty severe pitting on the outside of both magnesium engine side covers. They are structurally sound and this is not a restoration so I'm not concerned with a cosmetic repair. However, I would like to prevent further corrosion. For better or worse, they are both now bead blasted clean. This is an air cooled bike but must have spent some time parked near water. I'm in a mostly dry climate so there should be no significant moisture exposure. Some on line sources say that Alodine or some other "conversion" prep is needed first to prevent corrosion. Other sources say that Alodine will actually promote corrosion in magnesium and make it…

I'm trying to clean the valves on an old TL250 but am not getting much progress. I have been using oven cleaner and the intakes are getting pretty clean but not the exhausts. Is there a better way?

  3. Started by mcman56,

It looks like I'll be rebuilding the top end of a TL250. I don't see any piston kits on line so does anyone sell them? Are there other sources for valves, cam chain, etc.

  4. I finally found a fitting speedo drive gear (From ct125) and 3d-scanned it. If you also need it as urgent as i did get yourself a 3d-printer or a friend who has one and print it. t's just the speedo gear, no worm drive as i couldn't extract it. Didn't test the print yet, because i'm happy with the metal gear. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZdRx2qOBbFkJ2G2wRs8kymjSXC9wcUUG/view?usp=sharing https://anonfiles.com/j3D669Ebuf/tl125_speedo_gear_stl https://mega.nz/file/AigGyYgK#gpMSnJJdqIccU7ppVmYCF3N89ZQk3DTHX7PgRt9ftrw Have fun ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Folks, My son & I have bought some old Beta flanged tubeless rims with the idea to fit them onto our TLR250's we have. I've seen one done with Gas Gas / Sherco type turnbuckle spokes. Has anybody done this & if so what size / length spokes did you use? There's quite a bit of difference in length in the spokes between sprocket side to drum side on our TLR's Any advice appreaciated. Cheers, Gary B

Hello everyone, looking for help with my 150cc upgrade kit. its all assembled with the new piston and barrel but the original cam chain is now too short. I measured the height of the new barrel and itโ€™s slightly taller than the original 125 one hence the old cam chain just fits but is way too tight even in its most loose setting on the tensioner. The kit is Berlit. so I guess I need an extra link or two longer can chain? where to find one? has anyone else experienced this problem? any help or advice gratefully received, kind regards, Andy

Are there any recognised mods that will improve the forks on a TLR 200? I have a modified frame, rockshocks, etc., but the forks appear untouched.

I have a 1987 TLR200 with shifting problems. When you tap the shifter into first gear the shift arm will drop 90 degrees down from its neutral position. Think of the shift lever pointing at the ground. And you can tell the linkage is out of whack. You then have to manually return the shift lever to the horizontal position. It shifts fine from neutral to 2nd, 3rd, 4th and so on. Any thoughts on the problem? Iโ€™ve read that I could ditch the linkage and connect the shifter directly to the transmission shaft. Not sure if that would fix issue or not yet. Thanks

Wally has written to me with the following gearbox problem - any dieas? "I have a 1986 TLR200 with shifting problems. When you tap the shifter into first gear the shift arm will drop 90 degrees down from its neutral position. Think of the shift lever pointing at the ground. You then have to manually return the shift lever to the horizontal position. It shifts fine from neutral to 2nd, 3rd, 4th and so on. It also shifts fine going down through the gears until you try going from 2nd gear to first, at this point the shifter fill end up pointing vertically at the ground. Any thoughts on the problem?" Cheers.

Hey all, new to the forum, I recently traded a restored xr500r for a 1986 Honda reflex (plus a pit bike). Iโ€™m currently going through the lighting right now to get it street legal again. Iโ€™ve run into a broken headlight and speedo/idiot light cluster. Iโ€™ve sourced the speedo gauges on eBay, but I was possibly hoping to switch headlight to LED. Has anyone done this before? If so, what size light would it be? I measured my headlight at about 5.25in in diameter, but I can only seem to find 5.75in headlight assemblies.

Hi, Iโ€™ve just bought a Honda TL 125 1975 that looks good from a photo and at a distance but not so good close up! i plan to make it road legal. would appreciate a contact number of a company or person who could do this for me. Thats getting a number plate and V5 etc as it has no papers. iโ€™m fitting a 150cc big bore kit soon, so can anyone recommend a suitable carburettor and appropriate jets? (Bearing in mind that itโ€™s for on/off road use) last thing is Iโ€™d really love an aluminium tank. Iโ€™ve seen photos of Honda tl 125โ€™s with them but havenโ€™t seen any for sale. i know the 250 has an alloy tank. Does it fit? any help gratefully appreciated.

Yeah, what could go wrong? What I really want is a 1979 Seeley Honda 'cause they stir my soul better than any other trials bike out there. Seeking to do an AHRMA trials in a couple of years, I notice that the modern classic rule book allows the 79 xl185s to be used for ahrma trials. So I found a core bike and am researching what needs done to make a respectable trials bike that stays within the rules. I don't see much evidence of others taking on this nonsensical project, but if anybody knows about it being done well, I'd love a steer toward learning more. Here are the results of my early research: Don't know rake angle, but targeting 27.5 degrees after I…

Thinking of replacing rear shocks on my TLR 200, currently has aluminium betors 395mm. Length seems fine but Iโ€™ve had Falcons and NJB ultimates on Fantic and really liked the NJBs Just wondering if anyone has the Falcon long bodied ones they make for the TLR or rockshocks fitted to give opinion on those thanks

I am building two trials bikes, one is a TL125 that I have owned since high school and is in pretty sad shape, at least cosmetically, the other one is an 87 TLR200 Reflex that started as a roller and then I acquired another parts bike with a complete engine. The engine while complete has some issues, mainly one being that some one welded on the kickstarter to the shaft. Let me start this by saying I am a cheap a*** , if there is ever a question of why something was done a certain way , you can probably refer back to this statement for your answer. I have looked at pretty much every TL200 build here and I do love some of the color schemes , especially the red white and b…

1975 Honda TL250 - Where is the best place/manual to find engine torques for engine reassembly? The manual I have is not that specific. The "bolt" torque (e.g., 10mm) is given, but torque by location would be more useful. (Like cylinder-head-to-crankcase bolts). Although, I can get by with the manual I have. Thanks.

Hi - I have had some difficulty dating my TLR, I believe it is quite an early model, grey import from Japan to Oz. Engine MD09E 1005839. I decided to replace timing chain and guides ....no problems with the chain but the guides (Chinese off ebay) I have appear to be too short. They have correct numbers ie: Replaces OEM Part Number: 14500-427-000 (Tensionser), 14550-427-000 (Guide) But front guide only just sits in position and rear there is no way I can install top bolt .....at least 5mm short. Do these stretch. Pics below show old guides v new guides. Base and head gasket are correct thickness. Do you think they are just too short or am I missing somethin…
