SSDT Chat

Such a popular event it deserves it's own forum!

  1. Started by boofont,

I hope to observe for a few days this year, has anyone done it it before? What can I expect and how do the observers get out to the far away sections? Do they ride the whole way, follow the road or take a van and park up close by?

  2. Started by hgas,

Right who’s your top 3 this year then? A lot of hype over mr lampkin this year , loads of videos floating around about his prep and stuff and he’s looking real sharp , after dabills cruel luck last year I think he will be very hungry for the win , who else could be in the mix , my top 3 is lampkin pushed close by dabill and then long shot a top national lad maybe dan Thorpe /Richard Sadler

I apologise if this is a repeat, buttt.... what are the chances of a twinshock Scottish in the future? I appreciate that the relevant committees are worked to death and all that but I reckon it would be a winner. Same sort of format as the pre-65, 2 days. Bit of a knock-around for the twinshock lads and lasses.

Having had his entry into the Ballot for the 2014 SSDT confirmed - Gary "Bingo" Bingley is to make a welcome return to the sport with his main aim being winning th ssdt 2014 over 50 award (as he's 50 in February). This will all be for charity -and he is starting his new fitness regime this weekend with some altitude training in the alps. Please give him all the encouragement we can and watch out for more details - He'll hopefully be back on a bike at the Cumberland Clubs New Years Day Trial. Thanks for now. Should I ever be lucky enough to get a ride in the Pre 65 Scottish, and as my Cub wouldn't be popular, can the panel of experts, Chaired by Big John, please put this machine through scrutineering The carb is made by Mick Uni ( the well known ex pat) and they were around in the 60's I believe? As I've written elsewhere, this weekend coming looks horrible, I'd even say there's a risk of a snow shower higher up on Saturday. HOWEVER........based on the cut out of a chart below the main part of next week is looking better. If this scenario works out it'll improve steadily from Sunday afternoon onwards, the high pressure building from the southwest. The high will continue to build until it kind of stops over the UK. East coast will be crap but the west could have a really good week. BUT as thing have been changing so much recently model run by model run I would prepare for the worst and everything else is a bonus The pic is for midday Tuesday; Light easterly wind…

There's a distinct lack of SSDT chat this year.....has everyone lost interest, or are you all too busy sorting your protein intakes to chat/gurn about it these days?! I miss the old banter!

  16. Some of you will remember all my gurning last year when I cycled from Glasgow to Edinburgh for charity....well, I can't have gurned enough, because this year we've got an SSDT squad doing the same thing! Mark Whitham (Clerk of the Course), Davy Robinson and Ian Boyd (Assistant Clerks of the Course, aka The Beardies) and myself are taking up the challenge once again, and along with some companions that we've bribed to join us, we're cycling from Glasgow to Edinburgh on Sunday 13th September as part of the Pedal For Scotland fundraising extravaganza. As many of you will know, the SSDT regularly has to call on the services of the Lochaber Mountain Rescue squad to help us o…

So after Albert Cabestany's visit last year will he return and try and win the centenary of the event ? will Dougie drag Raga over to ride ? Raga rode in 1999 or 2000 I beleive Fajardo has also ridden before and wouldnt it look good for Ossa to win the centenary at its first attempt in its new form Fuji would enjoy the moors but would Montesa relent and allow him to ride even if he wanted to ? Would make for a fascinating week, the brits could still win even if the above showed up based on last year. any body know if any of the world stars are intending to ride ?

Just out of interest really, where are we reckoning the route will run this year? There is no visit to Clunes moor this year and I have never ridden it when we haven't gone across it! I'm sure GIZZA5 will have an idea! I for one hope that they haven't got Trotters in first thing Monday like last year! I missed the nice run over Bradileig last year on the Monday and down into Kinlochleven. I would also think its nice for the spectators having the sections fairly close together. I quite like starting with Leanachen first thing Monday, it was odd not doing it last year till Wednesday! I wonder how its going to work having the Brae in on Monday aswell! Purely boredom and spec…
