Aircooled Monoshocks

Hummm I just picked up a ty mono 350 1986 that need tlc ( and love ) but I'm not sure I made the right decision to go for that 350, it seem's that a 250 would have been the way to go. Any advise, I'm very confuse. Guy

Apologies for another which bike question but as most of the bikes are now nearly at least 20 years old it's a bit difficult to go out and have a go on all of them. I ride as many of the traditional trials championsip as I can on my modern bike, but as I am a long way off 40 I am restricted to a few rounds. I really enjoy the series so am thinking of getting an air cooled mono to have a go at the rest of the series. Common sense says I should go for a pinky, but are they really as competitive as one of the last aircooled monos with front and rear discs etc like a Fantic 245. I used to have a 245 and struggled for grip but I thought something like a 205 would be a g…

hi guys im in the middle of sortin my ty250 mono you know that 40 quid pile i bought anyway its got a steel tank on it and its quite rusty inside and was wodering what i can do to sort it , it already has bits rattling around in the bottom and i wondered if there is anything like cure rust i can treat it with , might sound like a daft question but ive been outbid on every tank on evilbay thanks ps anyone know where i can get a tank cover?

I've just rebuilt my 87' garelli engine and am running it in, different people have told me different things heres what i've been told so far!! 1 tank of fuel, 3 tanks of fuel, 1 Hour riding, 10 Hours riding, Well i've done about 3.5 hours so far and only got tommorow to go before the trial on sunday!! Any more running in suggetions???

While pottering around on the dunes with my son, my bike, a gas gas 125 has decided to kill itself. While in top gear (and thankfully on a straight bit of beach) the throttle seemed to jam wide open, with no response from throttle, clutch or kill switch (once I`d wrestled it to a halt.) After continuing to scream it then rapidly died. And surprise surprise it isn`t keen on starting, just sounds horribly rattley on the kick start. So my questions to you clever people are What caused this,what`s the damage likely to be and once rebuilt how do I prevent it happening again? Hi All I need to make a tee bar for a Yamaha TY 250 mono to strip the forks does anyone know the size of the hexagonal IE to suit a for instance (19mm) socket not sure of size just guessing? Cheers Mike

Does anyone do lowering brackets for the TY mono foot pegs? I know Sammy Miller does them for the twinshock. I'm keen to avoid cutting and welding if I can. If I can't avoid cut and weld does anyone have any drawings to help fabrication?

Just wondering what ratio people run ty 250 monos on? Manual says 50:1 or 80:1 depending on brand. Also I was thinking of running fully synthetic if there's any advantages?

my mono keeps dying, seems like fuel starvation, after a bit of bouncing(not that i do that sort of riding) but it creates the problem it just dies, kick it over and off it goes again, just replaced float valve which everything pointed to, but still have problem any ideas gratefully accepted

are they all the same? (alloy types!) do the later pinky ones fit the early ty250r bikes?

Hi All. I have just bought one of these. Is there a difference between a TLM 200R and a TLM 200 (do they both exist?)?. The guy I bought it off ran it pre mix at 40:1. What is factory ratio? I run my other bikes at 50:1 - would the TLM be OK at this ratio? It would save me having two batches around. Are there any good websites for info on this bike? I'd like to find out about any potential problems/issues and any easy, cheap worthwhile mods. I'm used to a TY175 and this thing has enormous instant grunt compared to the Yam. Should be interesting. I have a 1991 model TY250R with the plastic tank. I have attempted to put new decals on it but within a day they have formed hundreds of bubbles underneath. Anyone have any suggestions? Is there something I can prime/seal the tank with to stop the vapour seeping through?

I took the 1984 TY 250 mono [ new to me ] out for a ride after stripping and cleaning the carb. I seemed to run great [ with the TY carb ] and pulled strong on the run. I had ridden some fast logging roads in 4th and 5th gear, then went to a single-track trail up a mountain. An hour into the ride I turned around to come back, and began picking my way down the rough single track in 2nd and 3rd gear using engine compression to slow the decent. 10 minutes later, the engine quit and would not restart, so, out with the spark plug and it looked to be very black.
