Aircooled Monoshocks

The rear wheel on my skywalker has a broken hub. Does anyone know of a similar wheel that i could use. The rear is disc type. I have been told a gas gas may fit but not sure what one. Can anyone help.

Steve Jewitt was the Mecatecno uk importer and was based on the High street in Driffield ,Northumberside. I think his father may have been named Colin. I need to ask him a few bits a pieces re the skywalker and Dragonfly bikes i have.Noone has any info on these bikes at all and i figure that Steve may be my last chance at shedding some light .Is he still involved in the biking community?. Please either post what you know or Pm me please. Also ....do any of you have any photos of Mecatecnos that you could post up. Ive trawelled the net and there are only a few . Some of you must of encountered thie before. I need to change the rear wheel bearings of a Mecatecno Dragonfly im restoring. The trouble is that the long spacer inside the wheel that the wheel spinde slides through is fixed into both wheel bearings.It wont budge at all. Id normally tap the bearings out with a long screw driver from the opposite side of the wheel. With this wheel the screwdriver just slides through and there are no ledges to get a purchase on. Any ideas. I dont want to have to resort to picking the bearing apart . LOL

After buying a 1989 jcm europe of ebay that was running and just sounded like it had a bit of piston slap i have striped it and found the piston smashed to bits which has wiped out the barrel lining and head .I have managed to find another barrel and head second hand but can not find a piston anywhere !! i am now thinking it might be easyer to find elvis ! Anyone any idears ??????

Rescued a dumped JCM in poor condition and I thought I'd have a go at restoring it as in the main it's all there. Can't seem to find a lot of info on it though and my first problem is where will I get a flywheel puller for it? Thought my TY one would fit but it's a different thread. I am thinking of building something a bit different, How far can you go? is the only criteria air cooled motor or is like the twinshock can of worms?? I am thinking of modern frame with c90 honda power (or lack of it) may try a little 80 gas gas or beta,

I'm thinking of going the aircooled mono route. I'd like - 2 stroke, disc brakes at both ends, electronic ignition, not too exotic so that spares are available. Which is best? I've seen a Montesa 310 and a Fantic 305 for sale but don't know anything about either of them. Any info appreciated? I've also seen a Honda TLM220R - this only has disc on front - do later ones have F & R discs. My thinking is that I can ride the air cooled mono class at the "classic trials" and have a go at "modern trials" on the same bike. Any info/advice greatly accepted.

I've just rebuilt my 87' garelli engine and am running it in, different people have told me different things heres what i've been told so far!! 1 tank of fuel, 3 tanks of fuel, 1 Hour riding, 10 Hours riding, Well i've done about 3.5 hours so far and only got tommorow to go before the trial on sunday!! Any more running in suggetions???

My garelli rear silencer always had a rattle coming from the inside, so now i've rebuilt the engine i thought i should sort the silencer out??? So i've carefully cut the back off the box with an ultra slim cutting disc, and when i opened it up WOW WHAT THE HELL???? inside its got a pipe coming from the front of the box about 4" long going through a plate and then another 3 plates with small openings alternating at the top and bottom and the last plate has a short perferated pipe going out the back??? it seems quite a restrictive design to me, i was thinking about removing the plates and modifiying it to like a modern design with one long perferated pipe and packing a…

I took the 1984 TY 250 mono [ new to me ] out for a ride after stripping and cleaning the carb. I seemed to run great [ with the TY carb ] and pulled strong on the run. I had ridden some fast logging roads in 4th and 5th gear, then went to a single-track trail up a mountain. An hour into the ride I turned around to come back, and began picking my way down the rough single track in 2nd and 3rd gear using engine compression to slow the decent. 10 minutes later, the engine quit and would not restart, so, out with the spark plug and it looked to be very black. My 84 Yam TY 250 mono has Z spokes with the gold colored rims. There is some lateral runout of about 7mm over 30 deg of the front wheel. How are these wheels for truing? I've never tried truing a Z spoke wheel before. Also, is there a wheel from another bike......newer perhaps, or from another model of Yamaha or other make that would work on the ty 250? Wondering if replacing the whole wheel is any option at all? Cheers.

This very unique home made trials bike has recently surfaced at a local trial in Connel Washington. It was built by Frank Theim of Idaho and uses a KX 80 bottom end mated to a very customized Hodaka cylinder and head. Apparently Frank made his own frame and almost everything else!
