USA Trials

Today we had a Parade in town. I figured I might as well get a car and have some fun. The local tow truck company scored me a car. When I showed up and warmed my bike up my clutch went out. Luckily it was not slipping. But I could only ride over the car one way. A few people took my phone number who are interested in Trials (at least I hope so). The crowd was very responsive with yelling and cheering. The photo is in front of the tow company so not many people there. At the main part of the parade people were about 5 deep and could barely fit the car on the street. 4th of July is coming up with many parades. Getting ready to leave on Thurs for Colorado to do some riding, just learned we have to have US forest service approved exhaust..... Whats the deal with that ? How do you guys ride there , does every body get new exhaust????? None of the 8 bikes we,re taking are "approved" , none of the 4 others in my garage are either ,all but 3 are the stock exhaust. Any tips ??????????

Reading some of the replies to the US national dates story on the front page. Firstly Craig, just posted next years dates he didn't arrange them, so a topic on this forum would be a better place to voice your opinions. Very few events, mostly east side of the country, no events in school vacation, events held on back to back weekends are some of the comments posted. To be fair to the NATC they can't organize a friendly series if no clubs volunteer to host events, also those that have volunteered like Arizona, can only do events at certain times of the year. Does anyone read print anymore? Shan recently added Enduro to the title of Trials Comp, and I think the paper looks stronger than ever. Now all the top Enduro fans now can see why the trials guys are so good. Plus us trials guys can read up on all the top Enduro guys. Talk about a Win/Win for us dual sport riders. Well done, Shan. Lane, Mich, The Beave, (That bugger has more aliases than that cute little girl on that show) keeps talking about all these senior "works" riders so ask you national champion senior folks what does your factory ride get you? Free bikes? Free parts? Free clothes? Gas money to the events? I know none of that, but what do ya get a small percentage off stuff maybe you tell us. Ron what do you give your senior "works" riders? We (Team USA) are asking US clubs to support Team USA by buying a box of 45 Bernie Books. ...... The author Len Weed has had these stashed away in his storage locker for donkey's years... Everyone thought that this book was unavailable. Well here they are. After these are gone there are no more. Own a piece of history and a great learning tool. Bernie and Len did a great job of laying out the fundamentals of our sport....and the basics haven't changed. Timeless photos and great stories. These books are NOS originals. Cody could not make it! Well, long story made short, they were all there to help and play, later. Just a note to say if you hear someone with a strange accent at a trial in the second half of the year at a trial, it might be me. We are flying into LA on the 4th of July and intend to purchase an RV and drive up the West Coast, then across Canada then back down the East Coast then work our way back to LA. We will be staying until late January 09. I hope to drop into a couple of Trials if I can organize it. If anyone is aware of a good place to purchase an RV in the LA area, or a place to avoid I would appreciate any advice.

Heard a rumor this weekend that an unnamed importer will bring Ossa's to the US and sell them thru East and West Coast Distributors The rider mentioned to ride the Pro Class was really a surprise.

I have just received a DVD from Noel (Pat’s Dad) showing the skill and virtues of his trials prodigy son Pat. I didn’t know what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. He has definitely got talent and could certainly hold his own on the European & World stage (A Class). In my humble opinion, you have got a potential world champ in the lad so if you want one, get behind him, Get him on a 125cc and get him on the European/World stage quick I will get some of the footage on here from the DVD as soon as I can..

I am a long time Michelin tire user, but I am considering switching to Dunlop for a new rear trials tire (to save $). I ride in the Advanced Class in Wisconsin/Illinois, over wet logs, dry logs, rocks (round, angular, wet, dry, mossy, slipery, grippy), mud, dirt, sand, dust, clay, rocky creekbeds, grass, etc. Would riding on a Dunlop feel much different? Would the tread last longer than a Michelin? thanks, Dave

You spent the prior evening [or month in Charlie's place] prepping your bike and loading the trailer. You've now been on the road for an hour when you, your wife or one of your 2.5 kids remembers that you forgot to put Jr's helmet in the trailer. You pull into a breakfast stop at McDonalds and notice the motorsports shop across the street so you run in and find everything you ever thought you would need for the weekend. What else did you forget?????

Check out the June issue of Dirt Bike magazine for a test on the Scorpa 125 4 stroke. It's great to see trials bikes out there in the main stream motorcycle press. If you look with a magnifying glass and squint your eyes really hard you can almost see one of my stickers behind the TY-S125F sticker.

When I dropped my son off at school today I began talking to one of the moms who's son is a few years older than mine and he races motocross.She was going on about how fast he was and about how he does the big triples and that he has a KTM deal where he gets a bike,parts and clothes and who knows what else.After talking for a few minutes it turns out her kid doesn't even win the big races like at Loretta Lynn's only like top five.After that I had to brag that my kid was a trials national champion.She then asked right away who he was sponsored by.I said nobody.She got this look on her face like I then began to explain to her that they sell more CRF 450's in SoCal in one…

I was watching one of my trialstv dvds (2002 Volume 2 to be precise) and when I got to the "Crash and Burn" vintage section I again marveled at how great the one-armed guy rode. The video was from about 1994. For those of you who haven't seen it, his arm was amputated above the left elbow. It looked like he had both the clutch and brake levers mounted on the right bar, and had a leather loop attached to his left bar to apparently help him pull the bike around. It was truly impressive. Hi, Had to pass on something cool I have just discovered. The JR50 comes from the store as a one speed centrifugal clutch with too high gearing to climb even a moderate slope. However - if you pull off the right side cover and grind some blanking material from the selector you can open up a low ratio gear ! This gear is really low and makes a superb trials gear. ( It's selected by lifting the lever - and the original gear by going down. ) This was great news for me as my boy has been struggling with his KDX lack of grunt - and I really didn't want to have to get a small wheel trials bike - I want his next one to have big wheels and a clutch.
