Youth Trials

Hi, My 9 year old is taking an interest in trials and I'd like to get him started on a reasonably priced, geared bike. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

My young lad will be moving to a 125 this time next year but I'm already thinking about which direction to take. He's big enough and currently rides an 80 Gas Gas Rookie so is used to the weight and size of a virtually full size bike. But what comes next? Not so much a fan of Beta's, Sherco 125's seem popular but have changed for 2016, same with Scorpa's, who knows about Gas Gas, although I do like them. Any advice or experience gratefully listened to

Just back from Richmond where NYL "cramped up" on final lap so failed to finish. However we believe Jack Challoner took A Class victory (nice one "JC"), and Alex Wigg came in third. Jonathan Richardson took the B class win.

Just to confirm that round one of the 2009 championship will be in the Isle of Man, the first time we've held a round since the early 90's, can't remember the exact year but I rode so must be a while ago!!! Anyway, just wanted to say that so far the planning is going really well and it looks like it is going to be a brilliant trial. The sections will be based in a large quarry in the middle of the Island and should provide a real good mix of sections. There are some deals available on the ferries so if you are planning on coming over don't book anything just yet until we have the details ready to send out. Hi All - I'm a new boy, well Dad actually. I'm having a few problems getting my lad started in trials. I have all the gear, bike, trailer etc but nowhere to go. My boy cannot actually ride as yet so what I need is a big flat grass field for him to get used to the bike before we can enter anything. We can get no help from our council as we are considered a nuisence rather than a sport. Does anyone know of such a place we can go local to Chorley in Lancashire please? It does need to be grass though. Thanks - Jim

On February 10, 2009, a new law called the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act went into effect. This law was created by Congress last August as a knee-jerk reaction to hazardous toys being imported from China (remember the Fisher-Price toy recalls). It bans all products sold for use by children which contain above certain levels of lead and phthalates. In the act, children is defined as anyone 12 or under, and the law is very broad in that it exempts no products from its purview. How does this become an issue of importance to motorcycle riders? Hi all, after a little advise, I'm looking to get my son a trials bike for his birthday in a couple of weeks. I have been looking at getting a beta 80 junior, but these are like hens teeth in the second hand market. Are 80 big wheeled bikes the same size as a full size bike?? I don't want to get him a big wheel and then he finds it to big and heavy and doesn't enjoy it! He knows his way around bikes, rides a ktm 65 in enduro. Can ride my bike but feels it's to big and says he wants a small one here he is riding mine to guage his size....

Looking at bikes for my son but looking for some advice on size. He's coming up 9 and 4' 11". Unsure whether to go big wheel or med wheel 80cc. Not interested in classes or serious competing, more for fun. Thanks.

anyone seen full resullts from yesterdays youth national???

hi im 12 cumin up 13 end of this month. i ride a 125cc sherco and want to compete. what is the best way to get into competiton? also what obstacles are there normally in a youth trial? any help appreaciated

Due to the heavy rain making the car park impossible to use, the Stratford-Upon-Avon Club trial will now be at Saintbury Quarry and not Top Farm as advertised. I want to get my 11 year old son a trials bike. Gas powered is preferred. The riding around here, in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada, is long climbs with steep technical trails. Me and my buddies are less into observed trials, more into climbing steep rock faces and wicked rooty sections. Electric doesn't cut it here. This is obviously not the type of terrain for my beginner son, who has no motorized experience, but is a decent mountain biker. Is a 125 to big?

Hi Dont know what to buy for my 14 year old. we dont have any 010s 125s in the country yet, so cant try one. We would like feedback on the new gas gas and beta. Bottom end power , smoothness, get up and go. Its hard to make a decision just reading the spec. Has the new crank in the gasgas made much differance. Pete

I don't know if its just me, but have I read the new rules correctly for A&B British Championship Classes this year: A & B ride the same route (Route A) and A class (and presumably B class too) who want to ride less severe sections ride Route 'B' on a no points basis. Seems to be a good idea to boost entries but IMHO the ACU have missed a trick by not making the 'B' route a sub-championship like the adults have. Just my opinion...

Clubs and Centres will probably have received provision trials calendar for 2008 in last week. Please note we have made a balls up of the Youth A & B dates ! Apologies. We will do all these again - so please disregard published dates. Not and excuse - for we clearly messed up - but as way of some sort of explanation of problems we are having - and some answers for some queries that have arrived about allocation of A & B dates in general.
