Classic Trials

Hello I've recently bought this Tiger Cub built by Fred Hardy; I have his hand written notes on the various mods he had built into it. I believe that Fred sold the bike to Phil Clarkson of Leyland some time ago. Does anyone recognise the bike? Will the modifications mean that it would have to enter as a "Special" in Pre 65 club trials? Thanks Magnus

Is there any place in the Western US where vintage trials are laid out as they were 40 years ago so the motorcycle is moving pretty much all of the time? More a momentum thing than a point and shoot type exercise. Out of more general interest, are trials done that way anywhere in the world today?

So the message on the SSDT Pre65 webpages is that the trial will not be going over Blackwater in 2011 due to environmental considerations. That's a real shame. Nor will the route go over Callart Pass. Back to two way traffic on the Mamore Road. At least it's better than the ride back on the tarmac road although the 'new' sections on the roadside were good especially for spectators. Complaints have also been received from competitors about the severity of these two parts of the route. What does anyone think? Here are the details for the Stratford-Upon-Avon round of the Sammy Miller Classic Bike Championship on 20th May. Please note: Trail bikes are most welcome on a no award basis and there is an easy (sidecar) route for riders of any machine who just want a days riding in the Cotsowlds. hi im just building a trials tiger cub ( dont really know what im doing but hey ho) i realize that the standard cub forks are not going to be good enough so has anyone got any ideas about what to put on it, dont want to speand a fortune and there only for light ttrial use, please any suggestions welcome.

Hi, Can anyone help me with the frame of my recently bought Bultaco Sherpa 350 199a made in 1979, The rear is different to my 250 which is one piece right round, this one is two separate sides. To help with a machine eligiblity issue can anyone state, with confidence, when the Amal Concentric MK1 and MK2 carburettors were first introduced.

Dear friends, I have just bought a classic Cota 247 that has been badly 'reworked' by its previous owners. Never mind, it has its papers and a registration number, a rare thing in Italy where most classic trial bikes have been taken off the road to avoid paying taxes and thus cannot be re-registered (Crazy, uh?) Hi, Help is needed. Is there in the market belt drive kit for Bsa unit singles ? The ratio should be 18 teeth engine sprocket and 52 teeth clutch sprocket ( as it is for trial in the chain version). I have found belt drive kits, which ratio is 28t/52t, but it is not suitable for trial. Would appreciate much of some info. Is there some shop, which can make these. Best regards Restomoto

Hi Guys, I hope you can help this newbie. I have just purchased my first classic trials a montesa mh200.. it is in good condition and had a lot of money spent by the previous owner. We took it out yesterday to put it through it paces and although it has started first kick every time up to now it ceased to run mid way through our session. I had a look today and it seems the plug was very wet and not sparking. I cleaned the plug and it briefly fires then its soaking wet again. I have stripped the carb 4 times today to double check there is no blocked jets etc and the float needle seems to be working correctly. I feel it could be ignition related as the spark …

Hi all, I have a '55 US model G80CS pretty original condition that I ride regularily in Historic bike club rallies and rides. I have been doing modern trials for a year now, and feel like my skills are at the point where I can trust myself on an 'old bike' without the fear of trashing it too much. So, I am starting the thought process of deciding on what bike to buy, build or find! Hello I am a new member who has just obtained a garage full of Greeves parts from my father (who has decided, he's never going to get the bikes built!) He collected over many years and always bought stuff that hadn't been hacked about. There are the makings of at leasts three bikes (two Scottish trials and one Hawkstone Scrambler with banana forks). When I say makings, I mean 2 complete Villiers engines, plenty of parts to make a third, tanks, frame parts etc... Missing parts are things like exhausts, rims, mudguards and control gear... all stuff that should be available new. Hi I'm in the process of finishing off building A C15 trials bike with later side points engine. Nearly finished need to get a new Carb as I haven't got one knocking around.Money is tight and not over keen on Amal concentric Carb and was wondering what modern Carbs people had tried and what experiences people had? Looking to run a 24mm Carb on an extended in let manifold.There seems to be a lot of pattern/copy Carbs on ebay very Cheap wonder if they are the usual China's quality or are they any good? Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi all I'm looking for an old trials rider from the '60s and '70s called Mike Saintey. He should be around about 70 now. The last address I have for him is in Portsmouth where he was staying in 1998. The reason I'm looking for him is that he was the first owner of my Cheetah trials bike and I'm hoping to get some info that will assist me in restoring it to "as competed" condition. Hi i am currently building a 230cc cub and i am thinking of fitting a mikuni vm 22 carb. i have seen these advertised on a well known auction site for 30 quid. firstly has anyone used one of these and if so what were the results????. and what if any mods are required to make these fit.
