Hello everyone, well after 20 plus years, I finally did it...I just purchased a well sorted TL320. I have been wanting one of these for years. I'm sure I'm going to have a load of questions for you in the future. I have already reviewed all of the SWM posts and I'm getting quite the education. So, a humble thank you is in order for leaving such detailed information in this Forum. I've managed to source a new piston for my 84 jumbo from Italy, however when it's arrived the skirt is 5 mm shorter than the original. As this will affect the inlet port timing will the bike run or do I need another? The pistons are almost impossible to find.

I have been searching for a while for a good quality steel SWM/ Gori tank for a red and white Gunaco. It appears they are almost unobtainable in good condition so... There seems to be a few of the later yellow acerbis plastic tanks around so could someone tell me if its at all possible to repaint these to a good durable standard or am I going to have to keep looking. On this note I have come across a firm that will make new tanks to order if they have enough to make it worthwhile around 8/10 at a price of around 300 stg anybody fancy making up an order. Thanks

Question for any of you SWM owners whose bikes have a nice light clutch action - How do you set up the clutch spring tension? Are the pressure plate bolts tightened right up to the end of their travel and left like that or are they then backed off so many turns. Bike in question is a Jumbo which has the lightener under the tank connected up but the clutch action on the lever is very heavy - the pressure plate bolts are screwed all the way in so I'm wondering if they should be backed off a little but as I have no manual or set up info I've no idea. I can experiment obviously but if someone knows how they should be set it would make life easier than trial and error. Alt…

To lower and move back the footpegs on a TL 320 seems to be the most done mod. What I've not seen is what mods have been done to the rear brake lever to be able to cover it while riding and standing on the pegs. Any pics of the mods made would be appreciated. I am going to try and get a lever made that will still use the original cable. I have a template made but need to get it fabricated if it is at all possible. It is a really wierd looking thing to say the least.

I’ve finally found the time to start working on the SWM 350 Jumbo I picked up last spring. The previous owner had installed an electronic ignition that failed on him, so he reverted back to the stock point ignition. I reached out to the manufacturer (Rex’s Speed Shop in the UK), sent them the unit for testing, and, sure enough, the electronic ignition module was dead (which, according to them, never happens!!!). I got a replacement ($$), installed it, and got it all set up. The installation is pretty straightforward—you just need the right flywheel puller (which, of course, I didn’t have! 😒). I have trawled through the SWM threads and have come up with the following; Timing 2.6/2.8 BTDC Points Gap - 0.4mm Plug Gap - ? Help ! A few other questions - How do you adjust the timing, do you need to slip the magneto off and move the back plate and refit the magneto and check. Are there any timing marks to point the strobe at ? Ours seems to have some cold chisel marks on the backplate ! How do you connect an external condensor ? The only wiring diagrams I have found are in Italian and a bit difficult to read the colours etc. Finally, not getting any e-mail replies from Martin Matthews. Is he on holiday ? Many Thanks.

Before as I purchased bike Steel swing arm and early plastic tank, waiting for a seat Stand to fit, a few bits to finish, genuine side panels to fit, just waiting for a rubber seat to be made now

My SWM TL320 1982 has had a few updates so heres a few notes for others that maybe doing similar. New tyres michelin front; IRC rear, new wheel and str. head brgs., new chain and sprockets, new EBC brake shoes, fuel tap, new rear guard and new stickers. Heres a list on some of the work to date. 1. Stg. head brgs. not available in Oz [supplied from Martin at SWM moto]. 2. The sprocket I had on the rear had a steel insert /hub which offset the sprocket from the hub approx. 2mm. When I replaced with talon sprocket without a recess I used 2mm thick washers and ground them on one side so the chain wouldn't foul on them. 3. Sprocket bolts were loose when i went to change…

over the last couple of months I've been getting through condensers rather too quickly, initially on my 320TL and now on the Jumbo. So done some investigative work and written it on my (mainly SWM) blogging website. SWM electrics I've basically not found the problem, but tried to eliminate the likely suspects, we shall see....

I would like to upgrade my footpegs on my 1980 320. Yes I could buy a weld on set, but the frame is all nicely painted and if I could just fiddle the pegs, and not the bike frame I would be happy. None of my vintage Ossas or my old Husky help . My KDX 220 is not much help either. My 02 Beta is close but the peg ears are just a mm to wide to fit between the peg ears on the SWM frame and the pin hole is quite a bit further out. Interestingly the pegs on my DR 650 are very close. Fit nicely between the ears on the SWM frame and would just need a bit of grinding to sit in close to the frame and have the pin holes welded up or perhaps just a sleve welded in to sleve them down …

My old friends riding veteran mx and enduro on international level are using the Spanish developed HFS parts for their front forks with very good results. If you look at their web (www.suspensionhfs.com/en) there are some trials kits, too. Has anyone tried them out?

After moving the pegs down and back, the next hurdle was the brake pedal. It was quite a mind boggle to fabricate a lever that could be covered whilst still being planted on the footpeg. What made ir even more of a challange was the lack of space available due to having a swingarm from a TX 300 Aprilia fitted. Anyway, after a few tries and mods it now works 'Like' the original and I'm happy.

In amongst the van full of bits I collected from Italy last weekend were a selection of "works" modified front pipes. The top picture shows a standard chrome finish front pipe with the modified ones either side. I had a quick attempt at fitting them on my bike, but both would need the fins removing from the head before fitting...which I might try at a later date. The third pipe fitted straight on my bike, and has a couple of extra bends before it hits the middle box, and looks similar to the production front pipe on the Jumbo 350's. It looks neater, but I cant say it runs any different.
