Ok chaps, Just about to split my 1982 TL 320 for the first time, plenty of experience of Spanish twinshocks but not Rotax motors. So rather than just go at it I thought I'd canvas opinion about what to watch out for and basics, i.e. which case to leave the box in, etc, etc. Thanks all.

This came with my own Speedy and I've been meaning to post it for some time, the last two pages make for good in the field findings. From reading thru it appears it must of originated from a US dealer due to the mention of Watkins Glen world round. I am after bit of advice connecting the ignition breather behind the gearbox filler on a Jumbo, there is just a rubber grommet with a hole in, i can thread an 8mm pipe ( i think it is 8mm od ) for a short length but does not seem to go in very far, does it need securing with silicone or can it be blocked up? i am running an electronic ignition.( Rexspeed) Or do you have to remove the flywheel to feed it in from inside the casing? Many Thanks Geoff

Strange, just been getting her ready to drop off to be blasted and powdered coated and was checking the frame number details and found blue under the black, odd? The blue paint is 'in' the frame numbers suggesting it has may of been blue from new, yes, she could of been blasted & repainted back years ago but I know from doing this myself with very fine beads it can be a very difficult to get the old paint 'out' of the numbers. This attracted my interest and further inspection shows some more of this blue in some of the deeper frame treads where bolts don't seat right in and take the paint 'out'. Also the front mudguard stay that is now black was blue with blue p…

There seems to be almost no information out there concerning proper setup of twinshock trials bike suspension. With vintage motocross bikes ,suspensions(spring rates) are usually setup by rider weight and ability(speed). What is the best way to determine proper/optimal spring rates and damping on a vintage trials bike? I ride a 1980 SWM TL320 and weigh 235 lbs. . The bike has the original fork springs and works performance shocks put on by the previous owner(weak springs). Seeing as these bikes were designed and the suspensions setup for light riders like Schrieber and Burgat, the stock fork springs and shock springs certainly must be too light for heavy riders. Any thoug…

Nice old Jumbo that came online here yesterday. Just thought I would share the pics and humorous wording...! Obviously not a trials rider, garage looks like it needs a tidy. Bike has nothing to do with me..! "Humorous Description" "It will start and purr great very fast! Nothing wrong besides that it sat a while so there is a stuck clutch so when you come check it out you can only start it in neutral, you can put it in gear but clutch plates are stuck so there is no slowing down until you cut off the power ha ha ha meant for trials it is lightweight and super powerful..!" Cheers Chaps Motosinge83

Any SWM / Rotax engine aficianados out there for some advice? I've recently acquired a very clean SWM 320TL which I suspect has had an easy life. The previous owner told me on collection that he thought it had picked up some sediment in the carb' having been sat for a couple of years, and I'd need to give it a good clean. I briefly ran it, and he was right, it was displaying the classic signs of a gummy carb and blocked pilot jet... it wouldn't run at low revs, needing choke to keep it alive as they dropped, though was okay at larger throttle openings. So, I fitted a new pilot jet, (a size 60, though I know some folk say a 65 is best) and cleaned the carb' including…

Hi, Im in the process of rebuilding the wheels on my 81 TLNW 320. What I forgot to do before stripping them was to check if the rim was in the middle of the hub or offset to one side. Anybody able to help ? Thanks, Phil

hi guys, My understanding is that a swm 125 bottom end is identical to a 240/280. have i got that right? We have come across a 125 engine that would be a cheaper option than repairing the gear shaft on our 280 in the short term and eligible for my daughter to ride junior. A couple of questions. does the 280 exhaust fit the 125? Does the 280 top end fit straight on the 125 or do we need to machine the cases? What gearing is used on the 125? Any help appreciated. Cheers Mark

Hi all, new on here but have been looking at the thorny subject of SWM clutch upgrades on the TL models. after pulling the clutch to bits several times and not being able to improve the standard set up i by chance got talking to Gary at Sportax Racing, he was able to supply the Aprilia type kit with 12mm ball bearings and also some standards generic to all motors, standards clutch springs. The springs are lighter than the 37mm ones fitted and also shorter at 33mm. The difference is massively noticeable ( just about one very strong finger😁). Apparently the 37mm springs are classed as heavy duty and due to their bulk when compressed, they can foul on the basket and pos…

I'm refurbishing a Jumbo 350 and could use a little assistance. The seat was a real mess, repaired poorly with fiberglass and attached to the body work with bits of scrap metal and rivets. I've torn it down to what's left of the original seat and have a plan for reconstructing the base and foam. I'd like to use original style attachment but have no idea what that was. I'd much appreciate it if someone with a Jumbo could shoot me some pics of the seat and side panel attachment configuration. Here's what I have now. Thanks Wayne

Hi, has anybody gone to the trouble of replacing the silent bloc swingarm bushes on an 81 TLNW320 with needle rollers or some other alternative ? I'm building a 'Bitsa' using a TL frame and swinger and just wondered if anybody might have done such and would be willing to share their experiences ? Thanks up front, Phil

To lower and move back the footpegs on a TL 320 seems to be the most done mod. What I've not seen is what mods have been done to the rear brake lever to be able to cover it while riding and standing on the pegs. Any pics of the mods made would be appreciated. I am going to try and get a lever made that will still use the original cable. I have a template made but need to get it fabricated if it is at all possible. It is a really wierd looking thing to say the least.
