hi,i`m hope someone out there can help me before i kill myself.i have a 82 swm gs 250 that i race with the modern bikes.it goes like hell but the brakes suck.it has the stock hubs fitted with ebc shoes.i sand the hubs,sand the shoes and clean both with brake cleaner. what am i doing wrong??any ideas to try,front disc brake is next mod if i can`t get the brakes to stop better,,thanks...johnnyb

Hi I need a LHS fork slider to get my Guanaco out on the sections, the Left Hand Side for bottom (slider) has cracked at the spindle clamp, anyone got a spare or fork leg or forks for sale please. Thanks Mark

Hi all. Right I’m going to throw a grenade in here on this subject. Stock jetting is pilot 60, main 90 X2 needle and 70 slide, this we all mainly know. Right here comes the grenade. I’m running 52 pilot and 85 main to get my plug looking anything like how it should, I’ve gone right through the carb, float needle, float height, new needle, new atomiser, new choke plunger. On stock jetting the bike simply over fuels and the consumption is quite high. We’ve had this problem with another SWM and also a TX311 and in both cases the problem is solved by leaning the jetting. I have dragged my bog standard Jumbo from the depths and have a clean slate to play with. It is totally stock and runs the case reeds. The footrests do not have a return spring and I cannot see how one is fitted. It is also fitted with SWM (Betor) 35mm forks, it is my understanding that the first bikes had 38mm. Were they changed at the factory during the last days? Overall the bike is in excellent condition so I assume they are standard factory fitment. What other modifications would you recommend? gearing, carb (26mm perhaps), exhaust system, ignition timing. Thanks for your help

Can someone offer a recommendation to a carburetor (and jet sizes) to use on a Jumbo (350) ? My Jumbo doesnt have the reeds and is not the rotary induction. A Delorto PHBH 30mm is the OEM carb for my Jumbo. I'd prefer to use a round slide carburetor. So, Im thinking a newer style Delorto or a Nibbi. Im not interested in using a OKO (I rentlessely tried a 28mm with no luck). My Jumbo engine was just rebuilt (top and bottom end) and there are no air leaks. No matter what I do, I can't get rid of a lean condition found below 1/4 throttle....and still have mid and top correct.... it seems to be either or. so, Im at the point to try a new carb. Thanks.

Can anybody tell me the correct length of the fork springs as fitted to the 38mm Betors on a SWM Jumbo ? Tony

Hi All, As above, would like a pic or two if possible on how this plate should look with regard to things like size of the digits and is Engine 348.5cc or 348.5 cm\3, also is weight 89kg or 89KG,just stuff like that. Reason I ask is that my Jumbo that I bought a few years ago is missing the plate on the headstock and I have recently purchased a blank plate from Martin in the UK, just want to populate this plate as accurately as possible when I eventually blast and repaint the frame (Suburu WRX Blue from years ago is close I believe). I’ve finally found the time to start working on the SWM 350 Jumbo I picked up last spring. The previous owner had installed an electronic ignition that failed on him, so he reverted back to the stock point ignition. I reached out to the manufacturer (Rex’s Speed Shop in the UK), sent them the unit for testing, and, sure enough, the electronic ignition module was dead (which, according to them, never happens!!!). I got a replacement ($$), installed it, and got it all set up. The installation is pretty straightforward—you just need the right flywheel puller (which, of course, I didn’t have! 😒). I have found this to fit perfectly once the locating tabs around the carb mating face are gently ground away with a dremel or similar, my pic shows after grinding/shaving. It suits a 40 mm spigot diameter which is what one wants for the 28mm Dellorto fitted to the Jumbo which has the factory fitted machined sleeve to take it from 36mm to 40mm OD, the distance from barrel to carb is spot on and 75mm between fixings. https://www.jetsrus.com/individual_parts/002_052_su.html

I got into vintage trials a few years ago, I always wanted a SWM! When I was a kid SWM trials where the bike to have! I didn't have one then but almost 40 years later I finally bought one! I really like them! They handle great and the brakes even work! I enjoy them as much as the modern trials bikes I had! I actually ended up with four over the summer, (sold the 240 to a friend of mine). I have a 1980 TL320 that's my main bike, I bought from the top rider from our club, he also won the AMA National twin shock series in 2013 on the same bike! Just back from a trial down in deepest France and was really impressed with an Swm out after having a make over. Was interested to learn that the headstock had been moved... swingarm lenthened and exhaust had been breathed over. Was really impressed with the way that it went I was told it was a 1982 280. Are these really an undervalued .., but overllooked alternative in the competative twinshock trials market. Don t know as in many cases, whether the above mods are really worth the hassle and cost and at the end of the day the bike still has to be ridden but I was very impressed with the way it went , I might even be tempted or are they an aquired taste....... hi new to the forum and the twinshock scene. just though I’d introduce myself. my dads had this tucked away in a garage for the last 32years. After a couple of failed attempts to get it running in the mid 90s I though I’d have another go now technology is a bit better. and here the bike is “finished” it’s meant to be a little ratty and rough around the edges. I don’t fancy turning up at some local trials events with a shiney new looking bike and being rubbish haha. I went a little different on the tank

Hi to any fellow team yellow nuts out there!! Wondered if anybody has considered / planned when and where they will be competing on their fine yellow marques this year? I am based in North East England and intend to ride my ex Schreiber Jumbo at: The Bluebar 2 day Scarborough 2 day Lakes 2 day Bill Pyes 3 day Not sure of dates etc as yet. Right folks I have been considering a twin shock for some time and I'm thinking of getting one for the summer months to see if I enjoy it more than the Gas Gas I currently have. A combination of getting Bernies book off santa many years ago and SWMs being in short supply when my dad was a dealer for them meant that although I always wanted one I never actually owned an SWM. So if I go the twinshock route the SWM seems a likely candidate I have been offered a frame yokes and a seat /tank unit from a 280 but whats the chances of locating a motor ? will early air cooled aprillia rotax motor fit or the armstrong rotax ? I assume the Gori one will ??
