SWM

Jon Bliss has just built this SWM for me with a 140cc Pit Bike Engine, pictured in tatty first build, I know its looks wrong, but you want to ride it ?? Weighs in the same as a 2014 Sherco 125. I will post more pics over the next few weeks of the final build. Pete.

Hi Guys. I’m getting to the end here I repaired my clutch basket got my kicker back in thank you for all the advice and help ! I notice a bunch of metal shavings from the end of that bolt that I used to lock the Crank and I want to flush the crank case cab or should I just pour in some diesel or parts cleaner , lift up the backend and it’ll flow out of that bolt hole on the front of the case , is that OK ? I’d rather not split the cases but I don’t want any metal getting in those bearings I assume there’s no liquid in the crankcase Other than fuel and two-stroke oil that comes in through the carburetter the only fluids I’m putting in the bike are …

Hi, I've had the crankcasing of my 280 engine beadblasted so as to be able to see if there is any bad corosion which needs to be taken care of before rebuilding. I'd like to know what paint would be the best option to use to reseal the surface, bearing in mind that it needs to be nonporous, hard (scratch resistant) and of course be easy to apply and look good ;o] Any ideas.....

Does anyone know how to wire a cut out button on the TL 125? The wires to the coil end in a multipin connector with no obvious way of introducing a wire. Any advice appreciated as, apart from the stuck throttle scenario, I'm getting fed up stalling it every time I want to walk a section.

Just bought a 1981 jumbo bike runs fine for fist half hour the cuts out at low revs.It then will only start using the choke. It runs ok at high revs but cuts out at low revs. Anbody got any sugestions wether the problem is carb,coil or condensor. Any advice appreciated. Thanks JGM

Was wondering about any variations in SWM TL320s regarding the fitment of decompression devices. My Australian 1982 model has one fitted and another I'm buying does not. In the 1982 Australasian Dirt Bike magazine it has one fitted. And the 1980 or 81 model article in Trail and Track [now defunct] has it fitted as well. Also anybody got some ideas on where to source pistons and ring kits for the 280 cc?

SWM's and earlier Aprilia's had the PHBH 26 FS carb that had a petrol screw, later Aprilia's have the PHBH26 FS which appears to have an air screw ? Are they any better, or just different ? The one I'm thinking of using has a small brass connection which I think was a vacum to remove any build up from the crank case, but didnt work and was usually blanked off. Can anyone confirm ? Hi all, after a few years of talking about it I finally bought a twin shock, and here it is what a beauty!! http://www.normandym...ry/IMG_6444.JPG OK so its going to need a lot of work to get it right, however under all the grime frame and side panels are not that bad. The engine is going to need a complete rebuild and a barrel as that's missing, but for what I paid for it I expected that. My question to you guys that know, was there ever a SWM in this colour scheme as it seems to be original rather than repainted or powder coated? HI can anyone tell me where to position the disc valve in relation to TDC or BDC on a 1980 tl320. I cant see any marks on the engine and as I received the engine in several boxes I am in the dark. I think that the disc should start opening just as the crank goes past BDC but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Was at a classic trial yesterday and I noticed that some 2 strokes 'four stroke' at idle and some don't. My TL320 SWM always four strokes at idle, is this usual? cheers guys

Noticed the brake lever arm being a little reluctant coming off when I was practicing on Sunday....did the usual 'remove the dipstick from the van and dribble a tad of oil around the arm desperatation trick'....its bad maintainance on my part, no excuse. The more keen eyed would have noticed two dipsticks in my van on Sunday, myself being the other. The old girl since being rebuilt 2 years ago (?), has only had the carb cleaned once and the gearbox oil dropped 5 or 6 times, in that time she has lead an 'on and off' life as my enthusiasm has gone from peaks to troughs...I'd rather lay on a Norfolk beach than do a trial in the summer and watch my 5 year enjoying herself…

I keep hearing of this test and finally found it today. What no one ever seems to mention (or I've missed) is how old this test is, published in 1978, although that may not be any cause for concern, but what is, is the use of Castor Bean oil, not mineral based oil. I used to be an automotive test engineer and then went onto pure combustion research and a few of things from this report really bug me, all from the comfort of my armchair & not really knowing jack s**t about 2 stroke R&D. I got tired of waiting for replies from a couple of sources for trials electronics and was surprised to see a mail in my inbox after almost no waiting at all. The guys at Powerdynamo in Berlin are of a different kind, both answering mails and getting things done (!). After sending my old parts to them, I got a nice, big box a couple of weeks later, old parts in return and a new system for my bike. I run a simple battery total loss set-up for lights when needed, so my new system is ignition only. After looking around for a good while for a replacement exhaust manifold for my 81 TL320NW, I found that most of what was on offer was in worse condition to the one I wanted to replace. Then a notification popped up on FB for some new stainless ones on offer. I ordered one, it arrived yesterday, I fitted it today, perfect.
