Trials Training And Technique

Riding Hints, Tips and Tricks

I know there is no substitute for learning to ride a trials bike other than actually riding it. But, for those times when I am stuck in the house. What is the best training DVD for beginners? So far I am lead to believe that the Ryan Young DVD is the best, but it is very expensive.

While out practicing what is the main way you's practice? Do you focus on certain areas each week like hitting big steps, hoping etc or do you just ride about and hit whatever takes your fancy. im wondering what way people find it best to increase your skill level to become a better rider. thanks

Hello everybody. I ride about 6 months and get some skills in splatters, jap zaps and rear/front wheelie, but i still have problems in positioning myself on bike while doing that. Problem is in my foot and rear brake pedal. I dont know how is right, but i often hold my toe near pedal not above it and when i bend knees before jump i have more movement of my toes. But!.. When i need to use rear brakes i do not have my toe on the pedal cause cant instantly react in a split second and put it on the pedal, so im making dubs or rear wheel becomes front wheel with bike upside down Not cool! Do i need hold my foot while jumping on the pedal or what? Im just exhausted already…

MY 2002 Sherco 290 seems to suffer from the front end pushing on/washing out in tight turns. I'm a beginner at trials and thought at first it is my technique, but a friend of mine rode the bike at the weekend and said he had the same problem. I'm 6'2" so I have the bars fairly far forward to make it comfier. Could this be making it worse? Any thoughts?

Hi, I recently bought a 2009 gas gas 125, one of my friends also has the same bike. After riding a trial, I had a go on his bike which had much softer suspension, and was a lot easier to hop/endo, my suspension settings have not been changed. I was just wondering how to change my settings to be softer as the gas gas manual does not explain how to do it clearly? Many thanks, nick

I know this has come up before in some sense, but in looking for advise to others, I am unsure! In the case of multi day trials, 2-3 or more, such as the Scottish even, IS there a preferred diatery intake, other than beer, that replenishes muscle loss and overdoing? Over the time? After first day, supper of ? to replenish for the next day? Breakfast of what? Which is best? More carbs in the eve, more protien in the morn, Pizza, beef, eggs or sausages? Something, anything? I know there must be some dietary science to this replinshment, other than beer!

As I purchase my bike and while I am waiting a snow to get off I constantly think how should I start to learn! What should be my first steps? Of course first I have just to ride it on a flat terrain to get known with bike. Should I start on a grass first? Maybe I shoul start with small wheelies? I have in plane to make a small track, any body have any pics? Have so many questions I don't know with wich to start!

Hi, I've somehow manged to get tendonitis in my left wrist from using the clutch on my trials bike and I'm getting desperate for ideas on how to cure it. I think it started about 2 months ago from a mild sprain and now , about half way in at a trial I suddenly can't pull the clutch in anymore without sever pain in my wrist. I've tried resting it for over 2 weeks and it didn't seem to help. I also had quite an amusing time at the doctors trying to explain that it only hurts when I use my index finger and why I couldn't use my other fingers to help pull the clutch in. I'm pretty sure it's the tendon running from my index finger thats inflammed from overuse, so a form of re…

new to trials and in the small amount of practice I have done, I have never been 100% sure which gear to choose. at the bottom of a steep climb, there is a tendency to take a runup and use momentum to carry you throgh, you can obviously select a low gear and use the torque and traction to get you up ... or something in between, but how do you know? is it better to do the slower/more controlled or rush up as fast as possible, potentially running out of revvs near the top?

Sorry if this has been posted before or if it's all old hat but I found this last night - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=UYftEgz2u78&...feature=related Some of it's a bit extreme, for me anyway, but I can so identify with the 'yes, yes I CAN do this - Oh sh*t, no I can't yet', and rescuing your upside down bike from halfway up a big climb, with the back wheel gnawing your leg. Made me feel better watching someone else do it. It also makes a good comparison to some of his later vids where he's got the moves off now.
