Hi, Just replaced the Amal Carb on my 198A that I have restored. My question is. Is the choke on the Mikuni when the lever is down or when the lever is up? Cheers

Its been a while since i've been on this forum but after several other projects i've finally dug out my '77 191 Sherpa so i can finish it ( and use it!). It was in bits when i got it,including the wheels.I've just got the hubs back from Mike Danby who's done a great job re-lining them,got spoke sets from Inmotion so i'm ready to have a go at building the wheels up.I have got the parts list which shows the spoke pattern but information on the offset is thin on the ground.What i could find online was for a 199A and was Front brake side 15mm , non-brake side 32mm and Rear brake side 40mm , non-brake side 35mm. I looked up the E2 on this enduro tyre that I intend to fit to the rear of my Alpina . It looks like it’s road legal in France . Is it legal in UK ?

A close examination of my front hub shows the chrome off in a couple of places . Not having come across chroming brake hubs ,I wondered how bad are these patches ? How long will the rest of the lining last ? Strangely, the rear brake has a steel liner .

While turning the countershaft on my 199 by hand it stops turning once every revolution. If I turn it harder it will rotate. The transmission works as it should although the shifting is a bit notchy. What is the cause the sticky countershaft?

Hi, just replaced the wobbly wheel bearings but the rear wheel of my 199 Sherpa is still not fixed properly when I fasten the wheelnut. Washer behind wheelnut touches the thicker part of the axle after the thread before the rear wheel is fully tightened. Of course had I checked the parts book but I am still unsure if therr is something missing. I have, beginning from the right. On my recently acquired Sherpa the engine no. Is M-9201757 has anyone got an idea of it’s year please help Terry

I refurbished my Sherpa over the winter. No changes to the engine which started well and ran ok before and after initially the full nut and bolt refurb. I’ve not had chance to use due to lockdown, but recently struggled starting her. She fired but died and when eventually she ran I found she was running backwards which I know they can do sometimes. I’ve check all the fuel side out (new fuel as well) and reset points and timing, setting to 2.6mm BTDC (as advised by InMotion) with dial gauge etc. to the Bultaco method (which it was before). Spark is good etc. But starting remains a real problem and on the one occasion she did run, it was backwards! I’m a bit of a loss as no…

Hi Thanks for letting me in. I have a Bultaco M10 in great condition which has been in dry storage for approximately 40 years in Guernsey and now in the UK. The engine is in the frame but everything else is bubble wrapped in a couple boxes ready to go. I'm going to start the restoration very soon and I wondered if someone knows the paint code for the frame, I originally had the frame powdercoated in grey but now realise how stupid i was in doing so, i intend getting it stripped and sprayed properly. I can get m3.5 nipples in plated brass from Sweden . Trouble is the minimum UPS delivery is £17 . The spokes cost £18 for 36 . On top our rotten customs and post office are going to want to extort further . might be worthwhile if the delivery cost was spread among a few people in UK .

Hi all, I brought a new fibreglass seat unit from Inmotion. Having cleaned it up where it fits around tubes etc. It appears to be too wide.A pal and work colleague reckons the same and say that he had to cut his in half and remove a lump to make it fit nicely. Is this normal with this unit ? Fibreglass isn’t my thing and the thought of doing this is rather scary. But I want it to fit well. thanks, Andy

Hi, I need a simplex primary chain for a m80 Sherpa , in motions supplier has folded and they are out of stock ... there are many American clowns on e bay adverting used ones but I already have one of those ! Any ideas please

The nipples in my Alpina are eaten away . can anyone tell me the thread size of the spokes ? I measure them at 3.37 mm dia , which corresponds with nothing I can find .

Just received the correct tank for my 116 , hasn’t had fuel in for a long time and I need to line the inside . I’m thinking of using caswell . A few people have suggested rattling screws about to key the glass fibre , I’m ok with that but not sure what to use to get the inside grease free , I imagine the rough glassfibre interior will be oily from the petroil mix , long since evaporated . Any suggestions ?

Hi, Just nearly at the end of Restoring my 198A. And I have a problem with the Amal Carb. I cleaned it out after soaking it in parrafin for a couple of weeks and fitted service kit to the carb but the bike will not fire up off the carb. If I tip a little fuel down the plug hole she fires straight away. I have fitted a new needle valve and checked the float is operating correctly, that is shutting off the flow of petrol when bowl is full. I fitted a new needle in the same position as the old one i.e in the middle grove of the 5 grooves.And if anyone has a list of the correct numbers for the jets that should be in the carb that might help.
