Bultaco

I have read some of the old posts about brakes and even contacted some of the members here on TT. But I haven't yet read were a Bultaco owner has brakes that work as efficiently as a Honda. I know that is upsetting , but come on how hard can it be? Bully brakes are 125mm and my Honda has 110mm. Is it purely the lining material? Is it design? Is it mechanical leverage? I have tried 1 Relining the brake drum 2 Bushing the cam pivot 3 Newfren shoes 4 Machining shoes to match drums 5 Centralising the backing plate when tensioning the axle 6 Venhill nylocable …

I'm almost finished restoring my Sherpa T 250 circa 1966. New rims, new tyres, new spokes. Just had new brass bushings put in the brake plate. New shoes, new cable inner and outer. Brake arm works fine, shoes contact the inside of the drum fine. However, with the brake lever fully pulled I can still roll the bike forwards. Oddly it locks up the wheel if I pull the bike back, but forwards no chance. Stopping would be nice before I attempt to ride the bike. Has anyone some suggestions to what I can do next to make it work ?

Hi guys I have spent 2011, buying bits and pieces to finally build up a modified/competative bultaco and have been trying to find out what modifications work and dont work. My questions are what are the best hubs to use for braking performance? I have got steel linners in my 159 and they produce ok stopping power but nothing compared to some TYs, honda,fantics and certian pre 65 scotish winning bikes i know. Has any one tried a different exhaust on there bikes? the bultaco ones seem heavy take up a lot of room and get a lot of mus stuck between it and the rear tyre......i was think a yammaha ty pipe work may work better. last of all..... the clutch. my clutch work…

I'm in the process of trying to rebuild a M116 Alpina basket case. Among the missing & broken parts is the resistor (or as my parts manual says, Ressitor Assembly 85.21-217). Does anyone know of a source for this part? OR, does anyone know the specs of the original part so I can look for a universal replacement? Thanks.

Hi all. Today I was out trail riding on my kdx 250 when the chain jumped off the rear sprocket, wrecked the chain guide and snapping off the end of the gear selector shaft. I will be on the phone on monday to see if I can get one, but in the mean time has anyone had the same problem on any of their bikes in the past and did you manage to get it fixed by an engineer?

Was wondering if any of you chaps could help out, went to start my 199A, NO GO. used to start piece of P***, full choke a couple of boots and she would she would start. but now will only start with little choke and no throttle, chuggs along for 30 secs and then dies. also dies if you twist the throttle, i am guessing that it is the pilot jet. Anyone know any 35mm diameter replacement fork staunchions for 325 Sherpa T circa 1977 - 78. Many Sherpa T forks are severely corroded, I am interested to know if anyone has found a replacement pair of new staunchions from another Trials bike make that would do the job ? Fork staunchions slighly increased in diameter could be accomodated in the Sherpa fork yolks. As an alternative option, has anyone ground existing corroded Sherpa T fork staunchions, re chromed and stress relieved, etc ? Brian H

Hi, after a bit of advice please about my bultaco, it's a 159 and it's a 1978 325cc, I'm currently having the engine rebuilt so whilst this is going on I thought I give the frame a respray, it's currently silver, just wondered if this is the proper colour, and if so does anyone know a paint code or a name close to this colour, many thanks

Hello again chaps, I know there is probably a post about this already!! But I'm just enquiring about spark plugs for my 159, just wanted to buy some more for spare plugs really, it's currently got a ngk bp6es in , I've heard about the iridium plugs and was thinking of getting a couple, but what is the one I want equivalent to the 6es plug, thanks guys

Hi everyone, can anyone help...... My bushes are seized in my swing arm, I have a new kit to put in, I just wondered if there is any easy way of getting the old ones out, I've read one or two posts and they sound a right pig to do! Cheers

Hi I'm just wondering if anyone can help, im after replacing the 4 long studs which takes the barrel on my bultaco, as it looks like someone has replaced mine with some threaded rod! This has worked but I'm after doing it properly as im guessing they should be a high tensile steel because of the heat maybe??? Can you actually buy these, I'm also after the studs which go in the barrel to take the head? Any advice would be great, thanks

Hi, I'm new to here and was just after some advice really, I have a 1978 bultaco 325 trials bike, I've owned this for years and done trials when I was younger, but then it's just been left in the garage due to needing new piston and rings, I've finally pulled my finger out and decided to do it lol, but only to find out the piston was so oversized that I couldn't go any bigger(can't remember numbers off top of my head) so I've managed to get a standard 325 piston for it but now need a cylinder liner, I've got a chap who will line it for me, just wondered if this was possible and if liners were easy to get hold of?! Hi there, I'm after abit of advice about my 1978 bultaco trials bike, it's a 325, it's currently having rebuild at the moment but I'm abit concerned about the crank case bearings, I've took both casings off to expose the clutch side and magneto side and checked to see if there was any play, I found that I can move the crank from side to side but I don't have any up or down play, does this mean my crank case bearings are shot?? Any advice apreciated, cheers
