Hey everyone. Brand new here and picked up my first Bultaco. It runs and is about 75% original, however knowing this is a trial forum, I am looking to go the other way. I would like to change the gearing some to make it more of a "desert sled", less low-geared trials. I know the 71 Alpina is basically the same bike with higher gearing. Can anyone tell me how interchangeable the gearbox is? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks! Fenix

Hi all, new to the forum and hoping someone can help. Could anyone tell me where to locate a piston for my 221 frame number sherpa t 125. The piston measures 60mm and as far as I can tell from the lack of markings it's a standard size. The bore measures 60.986mm. I have looked at the usual sites, french classics, in motion etc but can not find a listing. Even good old flea bay had not come up with the goods. Any help greatly appreciated.

I have a Sherpa T 125 model 156 that has 30 mm forks. I removed fork legs, repacked steering/ ball bearings (what a pain) , put new seals in forks legs (also a pain) and reassembled. Problem : the fork tubes are tapered at the top and fit up into the top yokes, lower yoke is split with two bolts. The fork tubes only go so far up into the yokes (about 7.5mm down from top ) Both sides are the same . I have gently heated and tightened Stanchion nut to snug them up. Where the forks fit in the lower yoke (criss crossed markings) there is a definite mark where they fit into the yoke before (slight rust mark from the steel lower yoke) but it is a good 5mm below the lower surf…

Now have a model 150 Sherpa as a project bike sitting in the garage. Used to own it back in the 80's and enjoyed it as a machine. Will get some pictures up soon but it needs a lot so it may take a while to put back together. The list of parts is long and the bike will never be a 5 star machine again, rather the bike is for using and will be made to work well, not look like it left the factory yesterday. The big bits it needs are: Conrod/big end replacement. Magneto flywheel is missing. Exaust is missing. Front wheel is missing. The list of small bits is quite long but main parts needed are: Swing arm bushes. Kick stand. B…

Hi all, I'm just starting to tear into the engine I got with my #158 Sherpa basket case project. There has obviously been a pretty catastrophic failure at one point, the magneto side is full of corrosion, I guess it was full of water for a long time. The cases where completely void of any oil. The crank didn't turn. When I removed the clutch side cover I found that the nut holding the flywheel on was completely undone and floating around, there was no lock wire on that nut, nor the clutch nuts. The area around the woodruff key on the crank is a bit mangled, but I should be able to clean that up. 1) I have two questions. The primary side seal interfaces with wha…

Hi all, Coming off of a no throttle condition, my engine goes through a brief "flat spot" where it nearly stalls. Advancing the throttle just a bit farther makes it suddenly 'spring' to life and it runs well from there on up to high RPMs. I thoroughly cleaned out the carburetor, even all of the little passages (all that I could find, anyway) and the bike continues to run erratic at low speeds. A possible clue: Adjusting the air mixture screw on the carb seems to make very little, if any, difference in how the engine runs. I thought perhaps the rubber insulator was leaking between the carb and block, so I tightly wrapped the joints with electrical tape--just as a test. I…

Hi all! I've searched for hours and didn´t get to a point, that's why I'm bothering you asking for help. I have s Sherpa T 250 model 190 (1977 I supose). It is matching numbers but my "problem" is that these numbers are 8 digits instead of 9 digits (RM-190***90 / RB-190***90). I've checked a serial at the left crankcase that is 112-10Y019, what I think confirms that is a 250cc Sherpa/Alpina engine. Does anyone know why it has these 8 digits if it is supposed to have 9??? Thanks in advance for any response.

The carburator of my Bultaco Sherpa T 350, model 199b is retty worn out, the slider rattels around, a lot of whitchpee has left its tracks inside the bowl and the small plastic filters are cracked. Time to get a new carb. I have seen some Bultaco Sherpas, 199A and 199B models in photos from the Spanish Zona Trial and Todo Trial sites, fitted with Dell'Orto VHST carbs. Has anyone did this here in the forum too and have the spec's for jetting? This is the italian atomizer in a picture: Any recommandation or hints? Oh yes, it is a carb with a flat slide!

Hello, I am new member from Appling, Georgia. USA. I have been riding off-road my whole life, at age 47 , the trials bug has bitten. I now own two sherpa t 350 model 92s' and have competed in three events. My first sherpa had engine trouble when I bought it. The second one has been flawless. It is the first one I need help with. The engine ran very poorly when I purchased it. Timing was off and it was pushing oil out of the clutch side. I replaced crank seals, points, condenser, timing chain tensioner, and re jetted the mikuni 28. It ran well, but wanted to rev, after it warmed up. I have since done a top end and still have the revving problem. I have sprayed carb cl…

Another ignition timing question ! I acquired a model 191 Sherpa 350 which appeared to have minimal hours. Needed TLC with a standard piston ( piston / cylinder tolerance of .004.) Cleaned up the bike and carb and put in new set of rings. Getting ready to start but first checked the points and timing. ( Bike ran when purchased ). Points within spec - .016 but when checked timing , I found the BTDC was 6 mm ! Can this be given that the bike nan prior to purchase , even rode it up the street. Am I miss something . Here are a couple of pictures . Any help would be appreciated...

Would anyone know of a fix for this brake pedal? Seems the previous owner chopped it up. Should I weld something on or look for a replacement? Not many websites carry this type. Thanks.

The offset pivot arrangement for the brake shoes in both wheels of my M198 had me wondering if there were brake shoes from a different bike that would fit and not have the offset pivots. I'm trying to maximise the performance of the brakes by avoiding the eccentric loading against the drum that the standard bultaco pivot arrangement creates. I have looked in the EBC catalogue and there were a few alternatives that looked like possibilities. Fantic 240 shoes appeared the closest in the catalogue. They are for the same diameter drum and are the same width shoe and use a standard pivot arrangement. I know I can have the existing shoes modified by welding and machining then…

I've got wheel alignment problems with my Model 159, even after straightening the bent swing arm and triple clamp. I've measured and drawn up the swing arm and cast aluminum rear engine mount and it sure looks like the engine case center is supposed to be on the centerline of the bike with the swing arm centered on it too. Yet with good sprocket alignment (fresh sprockets too) to get the rear wheel aligned on the front wheel the rim has to be pulled over towards the sprocket to the point where I've got serious concerns about the amount of thread engagement between the spokes and nipples on the right side of the wheel. Perhaps the new Buchanan spoke set is off, with the…

Hi all. Had a notion to build myself an early 70s sherpaT for nostalgic reasons. First bike I fell for was a model 91 Sherpa T when I was 8. Always wanted one and finally got myself a an m92 frame. This is the starting point for a long term project. I was wondering how the engines vary accross the 70s and what range of engine numbers I should be looking for to get one that is compatible with this frame. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Cheers. Hoodie

Hi when I bought my latest Bulto (199) its all in pieces. As ever bought it off a guy who was going to rebuild it to its former glory. It had a noise in the engine so he stripped the whole bike down and put it into boxes. Found out that he could not find out what the problem was and left it! So I end up with Saturday putting it all roughly back together again to find out what
