Road Legal, MOT, Insurance etc

Hi all My bike is ready to be registered with the DVLA - but where can I get an approved DVLA dating certificate from? There doesn't seem to be anyone or any company that I can find who'll do this. Mines a 1977 TR77. Thanks Adrian

Hi, I have a 1972 Bultaco Alpina 250 nearing completion of restoration. It was imported to the UK from the USA about 4 years ago ( it's original export destination from Spain). I have matching engine and frame numbers. I will shortly be going through the process of getting it road registered and i understand if I can show to DVLA evidence of the original age corroborated by the manufacturer or an established owners club, i can get it registered with a 1972 number plate. Can anyone please help point me in the right direction of finding a source that can help ? thanks

Browsing this weeks MCN, mainly because somebody told me there was an article on the new Greeves and I came across THIS. Not good news at all if you ride a bike on the road (road legal trials as well). I lived in Germany for a couple of years and know only too well the grief the Germans have with TUV testing and type approval etc. We really don't want this coming to the UK............do we? GJ

Has anyone had trouble getting insurance for an 2010 Evo. Ebike my normal insurer will not quote and Carole Nash only have a 250 Rev 3 on the pull down menu. I have tried the bikeinsurer but all still refer to a rev 3? Any guidance would be appreciated as I need to get a cover note to register and tax the new beaut before pickup on Saturday.

Hi All hope somebody can help im in the process of purchasing a new evo but cannot find any insurance companies who list the evo's tried Bennetts as my rev3 is covered by them and also compare the market but no joy any ideas !!!

As the title says who do you insure your evo with? My current broker does not recognise it and said to go to Norwich Union direct. Which I have done but I need a couple of quotes before I commit. Wasn't there an ACU linked scheme or am I imagining that? Thanks Dave

I have fantic motor 268 80cc junior trials bike from about 1986. It is mono shock with drum breaks which were only made for a short time, not sure when though. I am looking to make it road legal but i am not sure whether i need to do any importation paperwork, as far as i am aware it has been in the uk since new and it has no paperwork and has not previously been registered. does anyone know if i would need to go through the import process before i register it? Hi Guys, Just bought an 85 TY250 Mono for restoration and it looks like the old mudguard might have had a reg number plate on it, both vin and engine number are correct. Would I be able to HPI just off the VIN ? Thanks in advance guys

I am thinking of buying an old air-cooled mono that has been restored, and whilst doing this a replacementengine was fitted. This means that the frame number matches the one on the log book but the engine number doesn't. The bike is registered to the correct address and I know it's not stolen. It is not currentl taxed or mot'd but I would want to get it back on the road for road trials. What imPlications would it have if any? Would anyone other than me ever even know?

I have been building a pre 65 trials bike for some time with a replica frame and I have found for a sale an appropriate frame and V5c of the same brand and year. The seller states that the V5c is in his name and has a non-transferable registration number. How difficult would it be to use this V5c and frame number to register and tax the trials bike? When it means non-transferable does that mean at the end of the process my bike would get the registration number on the V5c or another age related number?

Went to insure Gert couple of weeks ago ready for the Vic on the 3rd and realised the old gal is now 3 years old and in need of an MOT Never had a Trials bike long enough to need one so abit of problem to get sorted asap and I had no real idea what needed doing to the bike. Ive seen lots of differing versions of what you need posted into the forums.. ive just had mine done so I can confirm the requirements - 1) horn (constant sound - not honk HONK !) - megablast horn avail on ebay 2) road reg plate (to the proper standards, i.e full size) 3 Tyres - if your tyres say 'for offroad use only' on them, scrub this off, start with with a sharp Stanley knife then sand to remove any trace The bike has to be in general good condition in terms of play on headstock or swing arm / wheels. Has anybody done this? At the moment everything I have is insured on its frame numbers anyway but it would be nice to have a proper registration number even if it is a Q. I have had a look at DVLA information sheet INF85 and it says "You should send documentation showing the Vehicle Identifcation Number (VIN), engine number and proof of ownership with your application" I could probably in most cases find the original hand written receipts if they haven't fallen apart, but does anybody know exactly what they want? Good morning. I'm planning to go a bit further to a few trials this winter, and wondered how to get legal for the road between sections, rather than load the trailer up each time. I'm buying a new bike, so can register it and I have a full bike license. Questions: Is there any special registration catagory for a competition machine, or is it just like any other bike? Will I need a proper size number plate? How much is road tax for a 300cc machine - probably doing less than 100 miles a year? Where's a good place to get road insurance for a trials bike - I suppose 3rd party is all I need? Are there any legal exemptions to save all of the bother? Many thanks

Hi I have been buying a beta Rev 3 270 2005 the problem Im having is I'm wanting to put it on the road but here's the catch I bought the bike and the owner of the bike had been using it off road and didn't have a v5 or any reg plate with the bike but he insists that it has been registered by the owner before him so we're do I go from here because to apply for a v5 you need the reg number ( what I have not got ) and I can't re register it because it's supposenly registered . I'm looking for a horn that will pass an mot. I ordered what I thought would be sufficient off tinterweb but it was rejected as it wasn't a single tone constant. Can anyone recommend a particular one to get as opposed to just suggesting a battery powered horn.
