Montesa

The price of a 2016 fuel pump unit is massive.... quoted £453! surely it’s a common item taken from a road bike. Would anyone happen to know or have the means to find out if it’s used on another motorcycle?

I’ve done plenty of Bultacos but not one of these. Before I start cutting just wondered if anyone had any images of the exhaust internals from when they repacked theirs. Is it as important on these as the Bultacos to repack the front box for back pressure.

Hi All, I have a plastic tank on my 242 that's been painted at some stage in the past and is starting to look a bit scruffy. What's the best way to remove the old paint as I'd like to get back to its original state ? Thanks in advance

Hello all wonder if you can help. A friend has just picked up a 2016 300rr but the rear brake doesn't work It just bottoms out with no resistance, there is plenty of fluid in there. Can't see any leaks either but the only thing I noticed is the rear caliper seems to be binding but when I undo the rear wheel nut it frees off. The brake disc doesn't seem to run in the middle of the caliper it's more to the inside. I checked the rear caliper and the inner piston seem to be pressed all the way back in and other side out quite a way. Any help would be grateful.

Hello everyone and thanks for the add. I recently acquired a Montesa 349 white wonder circa 1981. My first Montesa restoration.. I am quite alarmed at the lack of good workshop manuals in English and in depth. Just a few asks - what ratio of fuel to oil and should I use and which oil - synthetic/semi synthetic/mineral oil ?(for my other bike I use rock oil pp2) Also what other oils should I be using for other internals. Thank you.

Hi all, I've got 2020 4ride with only 100 miles on it has developed a tapping from the top of the engine. It only happens after 10-15 mins of riding when it's hot. It's most noticeable when the bike is idling and sounds like someone is tapping a spanner against the top of the engine. My 4rt has never made this noise. Before I start taking the thing to bits or starting a warranty claim, does anyone have any ideas? Could it be valve clearance? Oil not getting to the valves? Hopefully won't be anything serious with the bike being so new... Cheers Ross

Hello Cota 349 aficionados, Anybody know the correct order of alignment of the cutches steel plates? There is a slot cut into only one tab on the inside. Not sure what the tab’s slot is for. thanks.

Have any 4rt owners done any internal engine work on the 4rt? Reason I ask, I've got a 2005 4rt (first batch off the production line frame number low 900s) and I have no history of any internal engine work done. In my ownership I've followed the book and replaced the oils and filter every 15 hours using the recommended oils. The book says the piston is to be changed every year however this could be the original piston for all I know. The bike runs great and pulls well. Is it worth the rather large expensive of rebuilding it? I'm not concerned about the labour as I'd carry out the work myself however the parts add up to quite a lot.

I cann use all tips & tricks to set up the bike properly and hope to adapt in a normal time to 4-stoke mode. I rode a lot but in Belgium there are just a handfull 4RT riders. Hi folks, I've recently bought a 300rr and still getting used to the bike. It has come with a 41 tooth rear sprocket and a 10 tooth front, which I believe is standard? On my first outing I found that the bike rides really nice running in first gear but is a bit quick in second. My spare rear wheel has a 42 tooth sprocket from my previous bike (300 gas gas) I ran this and didn't find a lot of difference, but have since noticed that second is now only very slightly more manageable. My friend is running a 43 tooth rear sprocket and uses second much more, he is preferring this setup, I rode his bike and I'm not convinced. What do you folks run a…

I have a question about changing my clutch. The owner manual says on page 4-44 that I have to do the following before removing the clutch cover: "Pull the clutch lever and hold it with a suitable clamp" Please, can someone tell me why? I have concerns because then generate pressure in the clutch line and when i unscrew the clutch cover, the piston of the auxiliary cylinder pops out and the clutch fluid leaks. For my understanding I don't have to pull the clutch to relieve the system.

Posting for a little advise really.... I've got a 2008 model 4rt, in June time I had a 280 kit fitted (Athena) heard pretty good things about the make but not so bank breaking as a s3 kit... whilst running it in after the change the engine was really loud, you could really hear the piston working, I was reassured by a montesa owners this is pretty normal after having the 280 fitted. They were right after couple of weeks it really quietened down but now there is a tapping sound coming from the engine on tick over and the first quarter of the throttle... I'm keen on the maintenance, I run Castrol engine oil and elf in the gearbox so its not like i'm running crap through i…
