Montesa

  1. Started by aldo,

Well I've finally treated myself to a 2004 315R which cost me £800. (Hope that's reasonable) Never done trials before so mid life crisis purchase ... I've given the bike a full service and check over and the only things it needs are front wheel bearings and new grips so I'm pleased there were no nasty surprises. I do have a question which I hope someone can answer. There is a rubber tube which exits the inside of the left frame rail about half way down, under the petrol tank. I can't trace where it goes so I'm not sure if its a breather or if it meant to be connected to something around the carb. Can anyone help? Also the little tube which loops around the carb is mis…

My bike has been getting harder to start when hot so i thought i would check the valve clearances. The problem is when i set the flywheel to the T top dead center mark the rocker arms are solid with no movement at all. Can this be correct? or am i doing something stupid.

Hi Just a question about my 4 RT. I just know it needs a few kicks because there is no battery fitted. I'm an ex Jedi after all...I know this. I've searched but can't find anything regarding the rights and wrongs of fitting a batty to the bike. Want to run up the FI prior to kicking. There are a few options these days that are super compact, so I wondered if any of you have done this as a mod? Any electrical issues if plumbing into the generator output? The bonus would be that I could run some lights off it as I keep getting caught out early eves. Thanks. Chris.

Hello guys, my father and I just recently bought a Cota 123T and are in the process of restoring it to a proper riding condition. After riding it around for a day or two dark back oil starting spitting out of the exhaust pipe and we came to the verdict that it needed new seals. So we got the magneto side off completely fine but we cannot get the primary gear off even with heat and a good puller. That thing is stuck on there. Any tips on what we should do? Thanks!

  5. I have a 315r 2000 which is bog standard, to save the like of me asking questions that others who are much more knowledgeable thinking "thats been asked a 100 times" Was there ever a thread or an article written that went through the 315 and pointed out its evolution and possible ways that the older bike could be improved. For a starter I'm aware that dimpled clutch plates are a big improvement, what about brakes, engine oil, exhaust etc ? thanks

I have recently purchased a 1982 MH 349, however the from tyre rubs on the mudguard bracket unless it has 25psi in it, I don't know if the fork yokes are the wrong type? the forks are parallel at the top and bottom? is there are measurements that I could check as it may be the yokes or there are spacers missing on the front wheel hub? It looks like I have 110mm between forks and approx. 145, centre of fork slide to centre, is this standard for a MH349?

  8. Hi folks ,been asking loads of questions from the Bultaco enthusiasts about Alpina models . I was looking for a project but in the mean time this came up ,I think it's an M54 250 from around 1974 , and I am tempted . I had a Cota , 40 years ago ,bought as a box of bits and assembled, seemed a decent bike at the time . What can you tell me from the photo , has it got the correct bits on it ,I have been looking at google images and every one seems slightly different . Is the power output 19 bhp ? so really a trial bike like the Alpina ? Anything I should be cautious about ? All advise appreciated

OK, so besides the usual "keep the revs up" is there any particular technique to minimizing stalling in sections? I am a relative noob to the 4RT and get more familiar with stall thresholds every time I ride but all input would be apprecitated and will help reduce my points! Cheers

Could anybody tell me what map 1 and map 2 are best suited for. I've ridden both modes on the same section and can't notice any difference. On my Beta 300 2t the map switching positions are very noticeable on how the bike performs. Also where have people repositioned this switch? I seem to constantly knock it into map 2. I think my lanyard is hitting it. I saw one mont where the map switch was neatly mounted on the radiator hose by the kickstart tip

I pulled a stupid stunt and broke my handlebars. I'm 6'2" tall and the stock bars have me bent over. is it worth it to buy the expensive trial bars or is there another bar that will work as good or better than stock?

I have a 2001 Montesa 315r which seems to have developed a engine knock when driving the engine hard. The engine sounds ok under normal driving conditions. Can anybody suggest anything before I strip the bike down to do further investigation.

A couple of years ago, probably 5 or so actually, there was an article on 4 stroke 315r that some guy had developed using the two stroke box (i think) and his own barrel obviously. I seem to remember that he had converted the water pump to the oil pump and then had a water pump which ran off the camshaft, i may be wrong though. I did have it saved on my old computer but i dont have it anymore. Does any one have a link for this article as i found it interesting and just fancied reading it again! Thanks

Guys, I'm off to look at a 315r in the morning and have been searching the forums for what to look out for... One think thast seems fairly reoccurent is, warn dog bone links. Not 100% sure what to look for, but I'm guessing that its a metal link that looks like a dog bone in shape attaching the swinging arms to the frame? Is that right? Cheers - Matt.

Any ideas whether these are available anywhere yet? I had a Mitani one for my 06 4RT and it was the cat's pyjamas, i've now got a new bike and would like a similar one. Unfortunately the fittings are different with the new exhaust systems. Any ideas if anyone is selling them yet? Cheers
