  1. The slide should not movement sideways in the body Concentric Amal carb bodys and slides wear Look round the bottom the slide for wear marks ( at the output side )If badly worn it can break wrecking the engine The two screws on the side the horizontal one is the mixture (idle) the other at an upword angle is the throttle stop You can get info onthe Amal web site www.amalcarb.co.uk
  2. Thanks for the info there are two types of stators a six coil type for the models up to 2002 and the four coil type 2003 on The Cdi units differ and I assume the fly wheel magnets differ as generates and times the spark?
  3. I run vintage bikes as well tey are all four strokes They do not like low grade modern fuel so I add valve master plus to all fuel. This also ends up in the Bultaco and Beta I just add the oil before filling the two strokes Any surplus end up in the older bikes ps there has beeen a debate in the VMCC mag fora long time about the ethanol added to fuel super unleaded in most area do not seem to have it added.
  4. Speedo cycle didgy type or clock type My tester looks to one fitted and records the milage on the MOT and I have five on the road some day Mot some not
  5. I had an 02 200 Sherco with a main bearing failure the bearing was not sealed Water had came in true the timing side seal The bearing was the same as the old Bultaco My old Bulto still runs on the bearings fitted at the factory My Beta also has mains and these were sealed I think that problem started when it used to flood if the fuel was left on when parked at sections This washed out the bearing lube
  6. The crank oilseal should be changed without splitting the cases but if you excess end float it may be the mains If the drive side seal is worn then it will draw in gear oil and air making it run weak I would also change the water pump seal when I was in there Got your E mail but cannot open up the link to reply but did send one through the member part of the site
  7. Does it have the back plate mine is broken and is it the six coil type pm me if it is
  8. I use Pirelli tyres on the bulto but is used mainly on the road. these tyres are harder wearing and do not flex the same. I used another bulto on the road with Mitchelins it was fun but ware out quickly For off road competition I would not use Pirelli road or trail okI use Mitchelins on the Beta as I trial that.
  9. Just checked my 2003 Rev 3there is 7.4 mm between the rear brake rod and the chain. The frame is slightly different. On mine the brake rod sits in a little cut out in the frame inside just above the footrest hanger mounting.
  10. I agree with above been there seen it done it I married late so trial well into my 30s Then other things need time and cash and the job became ify That was in the mid 80s I moved on to Vintage stuff but kept the bike still have and returned to trial in my mid 50s Some younger riders drop out some move on to MX or Enduros.Your trial depends on which age group you aim for there was a few younger guys at a championship trial Some may even return with there own kids
  11. Ignition timing is 2.8 to3.0 mm before TDC Points are set at 0.013to 0.017(0.35to 0.45mm) I usally set mine with a guage in the plug hole. I do not tighten the fly up until it is set as you can get it off easier.then tighten when set. I also fit my condencers under the tank next to the coil
  12. Remember there is a middle box where the oil can collect before the tail box You probably blown all the crap out of it into the tail packing as the engine does not normally work that hard for as long So the burning may be in there not the tail packing
  13. If the clutch drags it is hard to get neutral I personally use PJ1 CLUTCH TUNER 500ccother people may use differant oil it is what works best for them. My rev3 has two screws on the lever One grub screw with a lock nut pushing the piston the other on the main body adjust the lever travel. Even set up neutral can be found easier from 2nd gear than 1st as I found on both 315R and Sherco's
  14. Try it out at club level first See what entrys you get by putting it in the sub regs of the trial If it gets support then put it to the SACU and run it as a separate championship along with Pre 65/twin shock There must be bikes out there not being used
  15. You could try Offroad motorcycles Plus+ over in Dunfermline on 01383734789 Willie usually is at most National trials with his sales van or Ecosse MX in Penicuik 01968702033 ring first to save a wasted journey

    Hub Colour

The swinging arm on mine still has the brackets for the stop switch and wires The primery coil for the ignition has another coil wound over the normal coil and has a separate lighting coil Don't hold your breath John waiting for me to sell it. It is now a family heirloom

Yep the front down does bend at the front gusset and the engine is almost touching the swinging arm and the swinging arm does not have gussets Do not know bore or crank spec never been apart Just on to the third rear chain John Only I used it on VMCC rallies or at the Pre 65

  19. Sounds more like condensation than a leak As the engine will be hot and cold water on the outside will draw air back up the vent pipe as the air inside the case contracts as it cools drawing in damp air in Do not block the vent pipe as the case has to breath
  20. Quote from a 99 cota 315 manual Coat the clutch plates with transmission oil Install the four cork mold friction discs and clutchplates aternately Install the three paper mold friction discs and clutch plates alternately starting with a clutch plate.
  21. See your bike was on overtime The water and gravel on the road up you could have used that as well Glad I did not bring the road bike up at least it stayed fair till I got home
