okay, Dan shorey is on record as riding a bultaco modified for trials in the Banburys club trial in 1961 and in fact factory bikes (156cc sherpas) were ridden in the ssdt in 62 and 63 and a 196cc version was entered by bultos nephew i think in 64 so i do not argue that these bultacos /montesa /hondas/ossa that were entered were not eligble on the basis of when they were built or how they were modofied and in fact I personally think that the bikes I saw in Kinlochleven were interesting modifications of pre 65 bikes. HOWEVER ( and i can only draw on my feeble memory as the regs have now been withdrawen from the SSDT website) I was of the understanding that bikes had to be of BRITISH MANUFACTURE to be qualified to enter so unless a group of birmingham engineers joined Me lord wellington on his peninsula campaign, liked it so much they stayed on, as wellington marched north, and took up thier spanners and were followed in the trade by thier sons and daughters these nicely engineered bikes should not be in a pre 65 british bike trial I have a very nice very early montesa (72) that rides much smoother than my humble ( but heavily modified) cub and i know which i would ride if i had to win..

sounds like you might have an air leak between carb and engine id strip the lot down as reccomended and put it all back together as per the instructions above

montacos right the tank will be pressure tested for leaks before and after repair so i wouldnt worry about what will go next, give them the cash and let them fix it

thats the beauty of ebay, I buy and sell fairly regularly and have bought and sold bikes. A friend of mine though had a similar experience to yours when she 'won' an Omega watch that was not as described you can sell anything on ebay, sellers can be economical with the facts about faults ( they dont have to tell you anything) and heap praise on the positives where as a buyer we often want to think that its perfect and that we got a bargain I would always reccomend viewing the item before bidding ( no genuine seller would object) and asking lotts of questions online before bidding, always check out the feedback ,not for the 'hes agreat ebayer' comments but to see the kind of stuff their buying or selling ( in this case are they a trials rider are they buying mechanical stuff) also check out the photo not just of the item but what its surroundings are like does it look like you expect a riders home would look or are there kitchen appliances in the back garden, is it somewhere you you would buy something 'unseen' from or even visit. To be fair to the seller, he gives very little description and your interpretation of 'needs adjustment' and his on something mechanical can be different as the winner of this item though you are legally bound to purchase at the winning price and the seller can claim the diiference between the price he does sell it for eventually and the costs assosiated with reselling it at a small claims court (now an online process) and as at that time the items have been resold you have NO way of proving what condition it was in.

most of the shots must have been taken on thursday morning at chairlift and ba house with the ranoch moor spread out behind them and the dark clouds that were over head were the riders actually just checking to see if it had started raining yet..

just been caught out this afternoon by my clutch sticking I've had the top end and water pump off so bikes been stood about a month started old girl up, warmed up nicely, pushed it out of garage + jumped on sneaked it into gear.. bang.. off she goes straight into the garage doors.. luckly she only had a 2 foot run up but i've had to park the landie right up against the doors so the missus doesnt notice.. freed it up by driving down street and sneaking up and down gears

if it aint broke dont mend it after 30 years playing with bikes this has to be the most important lesson to learn and the hardest to learn..

are you supposed to oil bronze bushes.. if i cast my mind back to my radio control car days in the 70's (tamiya grasshopper) they always had to run dry.. not quite the same but bronze bushes non the less

had EXACTLY this problem with mine a fortnight ago eneded up having to put one of the worn plates back in so that the end plate didnt keep falling out, still not got the damned thing working right..

WOW, the sun was shining.. no honest really shining, people were taking their coats off at one point. Great Trial , not much water in the burns and with some sections having been eased ( beside the glencoe road) scores should be a lump lower than last years Len Hutty, Tony Calvert, Carlos Casas Alan Wright all riding neat and tidy whilst younger Drommet was nursing a sick Cotton ( but under dads advice 'not through sections') Peter Gaunt dropped a slack 5 on section 4 as he was first to clean the section only to ride out of the section missing the 'ends' cards completely! couple of questions though.. spanish and japanese bikes competing, i had to cast an eye over the bultacos, Ossa,montesa and Hondas that were been ridden today and i cant help but ask.. bultaco 1961? montesa 250 1965? impala '63? ossa 1963? Honda? Minimum age for competitors, some of the riders looked very young, surely 17 is the minimum age given that the bike has to be ridden on the road? pics of Mr. Hutty and a GENUINE pre 65 Scottish bike lets hope the weather holds i'll bring up the 'ambre solaire' in the morning just incase.

a mate of mine who builds and flys his own aeroplanes after designing commercial airliners for a living says bearings should only be greased approx for a quarter of their circumfrence, anymore and the grease acts as a friction rather than a lubricant..

can you buy a right wrist that is linked to the backwheel and works on a sort of ABS brakes basis but not qiute if you see what i mean

build what you like how you like and enjoy every minute of it.. most clubs have 'specials 'class and no club would ever deny you a ride ( except p65 scottish possibly and anyway you'd probably never get an entry any way so no worries..

i have to say you got to be well in touch with your bike to notice the difference the differnce lays in the color of the throttle tube ones black and the others white, now which is which??

have no fear that tyre aint going to 'blow' anywhere near 80 psi never had to take a tubed tyre past 40 but if a tyre wont seat move it round on the rim and pump away, job done no worries

rtv silicone 1073 is black its main purpose though is electrical/ thermal insulation and it is expensive i have cartridges of rtv silicone 382 that is normally white and that is nato rated for bonding and sealing electrical equipment and military and aerospace approved for mechanical sealing and gasketing. i have a limited supply of it in black in normal sized cartridges at a tenner each plus postage i can deliver in person to scotland for the p65 on friday am or fort william parc ferme for the ssdt on the thursday morning if interested totalshell@aol.com
